1 1 What is Brightspace Pulse? Brightspace Pulse is a mobile app that can help learners stay connected and on track with their courses in D2L Learning Environment. It provides one easy view of course calendars, readings, assignments, evaluations, grades, and news. The schedule view and weekly visualization enables learners to quickly see at a glance what is due today, this week, and upcoming across all their courses. See all the important dates and deadlines for each course Mark activities as complete Anticipate busiest times with a quick glance Receive the latest grades, course content, and announcements Share updates by , text message, and social media Enter events and deadlines View courses and course content View course details and customize how much assignments and tests are worth Seamlessly log in to Brightspace Learning Environment via a browser to complete tasks Getting Started Android Calendar View IOS Calendar View Log Out Activity Details Viewing Course Content Filtering Courses Adding Activity Download the Brightspace Pulse App ios 10.0 or later Android 4.4 or later Getting Started On your mobile device, find and tap the icon. Learn more about the app by swiping left/right or proceed to the next step by tapping Next. Tap Pick Your School. You can quickly find your institution by turning on your device's geolocation service. Note: Brightspace Pulse searches for all institutions within a 55km / 34 mile radius from your current location. Log in with your school's or organization's credentials just as you would for D2L Learning Environment and then tap Log In. Brightspace Pulse loads your course data by retrieving calendar events from Content, Checklist, Discussions, Dropbox, and Quizzes in D2L Learning Environment.

2 2 Figure 1: The Brightspace Pulse interface (Android) 1. The graph view displays which days are the busiest in your week. Navigate forward and backward one week by swiping left/right. Touching Today displays the current week again. Streamline your view by tilting your device to landscape view, hiding the list view. 2. The activity summary displays how many activities you have in each category. Touching an activity icon filters the graph and list views by that activity type. 3. The list view displays activity details. Navigate in the list by swiping up or down. Touching an activity displays more information and actions you can perform. 4. Fill in any gaps in your schedule by touching + to create a new activity. 5. View course content updates from D2L Learning Environment by touching. 6. See important dates in the graph and list views by touching and then choosing specific courses and activities to display. You can also log out, provide feedback, or view the Brightspace Pulse version.

Schedule view displays a complete list of all activities for the duration of your courses. 3. Week view displays a list of activities for the selected day and a graph that displays the week's activities at a glance. 4. The Courses tab displays all courses and course content. By default, this tab displays when you log in to Brightspace Pulse. 14. The Add activity icon allows you to fill in any gaps in your schedule. 5. The Notifications tab displays course content updates from Brightspace Learning Environment and allows you to read and reply to discussion threads. 6. The activity list displays To-dos, Readings, Assignments, and Evaluations. 7. Navigate activities by swiping up or down. 8. Swiping left/right moves to the next/previous week. As you navigate, the graph updates. 9. Tapping an activity displays detailed information and actions you can perform. 10. Tapping a checkmark icon marks the activity as complete ( ). 11. From the Calendar tab, with Week view selected, the graph indicates which days are the busiest. 12. Navigate weeks by swiping left/right or using Apple VoiceOver. As you navigate, the activity list updates. 13. Tapping a day updates the activity list. 15. The Course filter icon filters the Schedule and Week view by courses and/or activities. 16. The Settings icon allows you to log out, provide feedback, or view the version number. Log Out of Brightspace Pulse 1. Tap ( ios) or ( Android ). 2. Tap Sign Out.

4 4 Viewing Activity Details From the activity list, tapping an activity displays complete details. For example, viewing an assignment activity may display the due date, percentage worth, and special instructions. Edit the activity details by tapping Edit. Note: When editing a date created in D2L Learning Environment, the Title and Percentage worth fields are the only editable fields. Open the activity in D2L Learning Environment by tapping Open in Safari (ios) or Open in Browser (Android). Brightspace Pulse automatically signs you in to D2L Learning Environment and takes you to the appropriate page, for example, an exam opens in the Quizzes tool. You can easily distinguish between personal dates you created in Brightspace Pulse and dates created by your instructors in D2L Learning Environment. A personal date is identified by a Personal label. Viewing Course Content View courses and course content in Brightspace Pulse. After logging into Brightspace Pulse, a new Courses tab displays, listing courses the learner is currently enrolled in. After selecting a course, the learner can browse the course outline, choose a module, and then view a content topic.

5 5 Filter Data by Courses You can see important dates in the graph and list views by filtering by one or more courses. For example, you can filter by a specific course to display outstanding work. 1. Tap Courses (ios) or (Android). 2. Tap the courses and/or activities you want to filter by. A checkmark indicates that filtering is on for the course or activity, displaying that data in the graph and list view. By default, filtering is on for all courses (ios/android) and activities (Android); however, filtering is off for graded activities (Show graded activities only is unchecked) (Android). 3. Tap Done (ios) or swipe to the left (Android). Add an Activity in Calendar To fill in any gaps in your schedule or add your own personal activities, you can add an activity in your calendar. 1. Tap + and then an activity type. 2. Fill out the necessary fields. Note: You must associate the activity with a relevant course in D2L Learning Environment. 3. Tap Save.
