1 Creating an Assessment Task Step 1 Navigate to the subject area in your Learning Areas and select Assessment Tasks. Step 2 Select Maintain Tasks (View Tasks is for assessing the completed tasks, recording the assessment and entering feedback.) Step 3 Select Add New. Select Disable to stop an assessment task previously created. This is useful if a task is assigned to a whole subject and you do not want your class to do it. Select Edit to alter an assessment task previously created. Page 1 of 8

2 Step 4 Select Topic from dropdown list. (NB. Tasks must be assigned to Topics. You create and organise a topic via the Topic Manager prior to task creation.) Enter Task Title. Enter Task Description. Step 5 Select Marking Style and choose either List or Numeric. This will determine the form of assessment as shown in the next two diagrams. Step 6 List: Select Grade Scale and choose one of the 8 options. or Numeric: Enter minimum, maximum etc. Page 2 of 8

3 Step 7 Select Submission Method. Step 8 Editor: Students will submit electronically like an . Upload: Students will submit electronically by uploading a file they have created. (Ensure that file is closed when uploading.) Teacher Managed: Students will complete the task on paper and submit to you. Select Task Type. Step 9 Class: Only your class will do the task. Subject: All subject classes in this year level will do the task. (NB. Class-based tasks afford more flexibility. Subject-based tasks efficiently replicate the tasks to all classes and provide some uniformity and consistency of assessment within a subject. Class teachers will still be able to control some aspects of a subject-based task (including dates) and may even disable it. Select Start and End Dates If you want to attach a document to the task, follow the diagrams on the next page. Page 3 of 8

4 Otherwise... Step 10 Select Save. This will save and Return to your class page. Only select Return if you do NOT want to save. Adding a Document to the Assessment Task (This document needs to be already saved in the relevant topic within Course Builder.) Step 9(a) Select the Documents tab at the top of the pop-up screen. Step 9(b) Select Add New. Step 9(c) Select the file, click ASSIGN and close popup by clicking x. Page 4 of 8

5 Step 9(d) Check that the file has been added and then select Task Details tab. Step 10 Select Save This will save and Return to your class page. Marking an Assessment Task Step 1 Navigate to the subject area in your Learning Areas and select Assessment Tasks. Step 2 Select View Tasks. Page 5 of 8

6 Step 3 Select the particular task that you want to mark. There are different procedures for marking depending whether the task is EDITOR, UPLOAD or TEACHER MANAGED Teacher Managed Assessment Tasks Most of these tasks will be paper-based and it is probably more efficient to initially correct these tasks in the conventional way. However, as a comment is part of the assessment feedback, you may or may not decide to include a comment on the student s paper task. Once you have determined the marks or grades for all or some of the students, you are ready to enter the assessment details into. If you have all the results, select: Status Update Quick Entry Page 6 of 8

7 If you have some of the results, select: Specific students Update Quick Entry For each student, enter: Grade Comment Update when finished Student Uploaded Assessment Tasks Only students who have uploaded their document files can be assessed. These students will have submitted and Mark next to their names. The most efficient method of assessing these files is to download these files onto your laptop. (Loading and assessing the files one by one within can be very slow) Download Page 7 of 8

8 Once the files are on your computer, assess them as per normal and then you are ready to enter the assessment details into. Select Quick Entry (to enter grades and comments on a screen where all students are displayed at once) or enter details one student at a time by selecting Mark next to the student s name. For each student, enter: Grade Comment Select Update when finished. Editor Assessment Tasks When students submit a task whose submission type is EDITOR, the teacher will be able to see the text which has been submitted on screen. This type of submission would be appropriate for tasks where the students are required to provide brief answers to a fairly small number of questions or to compose some text based on stimulus material. The procedure for assessment is almost identical to assessing uploaded tasks (above) except there is no requirement to open or download submitted files. The student s responses will be available on screen within. Page 8 of 8
