Creating a Page This skill sheet will demonstrate how tutors can add a page to a Moodle course. This resource creates a link to an additional page that displays content created by the tutor. It can display many different types of content such as plain text, images, audio, video, embedded code or a combination of all these. A page is great way to manage the content within a course. Rather than displaying all the content on the main course page (making it cluttered and not user friendly) you can separate content by adding it to a page. Follow these simple steps to create a page in a Moodle course: 2. Select the section (topic) of the course you would like the Page to appear. Now click the Add an activity or 3. Under the Resources heading, select Page and then click Add. This will launch the Adding a Page page.
Adding a Label This skill sheet will demonstrate how tutors can a label to a Moodle course. A label serves as a spacer on a Moodle course page. It can be used to add text, images, multimedia or code in between other resources in the different sections. It is a very versatile resource and can help to improve the appearance of a course if used thoughtfully. Labels may be used To split up a long list of activities with a subheading or an image To display an embedded sound file or video directly on the course page To add a short description to a course section Here is a simple use of a label to display some descriptive text on the screen: NB. In this example an image has also been inserted into the label. 2. Select the section (topic) of the course you would like the label to appear. Now click the Add an activity or 3. Under the Resources heading, select Label and then click Add. This will launch the Adding a new Label page. 4. Use the text editor to type in the text you want or to insert an image. Now click on the button to Save and return to course.
Adding a URL (Link) This skill sheet will demonstrate how tutors can add a URL (link) to a Moodle course. A URL (Uniform or Universal Resource Locator) is a link on the internet to a website or online file. Teachers can use the URL resource to provide their students with web links for research, saving the student time and effort in manually typing out the address. The URLs can be displayed in various ways - for example, opening in a new window so a student can access and use the URL, close it and return easily to their original Moodle course page. 2. Select the section (topic) of the course you would like the URL to appear. Now click the Add an activity or 3. Under the Resources heading, select URL and then click Add. This will launch the Adding a URL page. 4. Give the URL Name this is the link the students will click on from the main course page to access the URL. 5. Add a Description provide a description for the URL. You can make the description available on the course page by selecting Display description on course page.
Adding a Book This skill sheet will introduce the book resource in Moodle. The book resource enables tutors to create a multi-page resource with a content menu, chapters and subchapters. Books can contain text, images and media files and are useful for displaying large amounts of information that can be broken down into more manageable bite size chunks. NB: You can use the book module to present information in a well-structured, user-friendly format. The book resource is ideal for creating online module handbooks. 1. Click the Turn editing on button (top right of the screen). 2. Select the section (topic) of the course you would like to add the book to. Now click the Add an activity or 3. Under the Resources heading, select Book and then click Add. This will launch the Adding a new Book page. 4. Give the Book a Name this is the link the students will click on from the main course page so make sure it s something relevant. 5. Add a Description provide a brief summary of the resource. You can make the description available on the course page by selecting Display description on course page.
Creating a Lightbox Gallery This skill sheet will demonstrate how tutors can create an image gallery in Moodle. As a course tutor, you are able to create, edit and delete galleries. You can also modify the permissions of the gallery to allow students to upload images. Follow these simple steps on how to create a lightbox gallery: 2. Select the section (topic) of the course you would like the lightbox gallery to appear. Now click the Add an activity or 3. Under the Resources heading, select Lightbox gallery and then click Add. This will launch the Adding a Lightbox page. 4. Give the Lightbox Name this is the link the students will click on from the main course page to access the Lightbox. 5. Add a Description provide a summary of the Lightbox gallery. You can make the description available on the course page by selecting Display description on course page.
4. Give the Page Name this is the link the students will click on from the main course page to access the Page. 5. Add a Description provide a description for you Page. You can make the description available on the course page by selecting Display description on course page. 6. In the content section, add the information you would like to display on the page. Remember, this can be a combination of text, images, audio, video and embedded content. 7. Under the Appearance heading, you can configure how the page is launched. Either in a new window or within Moodle. If you decide to open the page in a new window, additional settings become available to determine the size of the window.
8. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on Save and return to course. Your page has now been created. It s a good idea to open the page and check that the content is displaying as expected. You can always edit the content on your page by clicking the Update icon.
