Eah omponnt is larly lalld for asy idntifiation. SOLDERING Soldring is on of th most important oprations you will prform whil assmling your kit. A good soldr onntion will form an ltrial onntion twn th omponnt and iruit oard. A ad soldr onntion ould prvnt an othrwis wll-assmld kit from oprating proprly. It is asy to mak a good soldr joint y following a fw simpl ruls: 1. Us th right typ of soldring iron. A 15 to 25watt standard soldring iron dsignd for ltronis or a tmpratur ontrolld soldring station with a 2 to 3mm onial or pointd tip fittd should usd. 2. Kp th soldring iron tip lan. Wip it oftn on a wt spong or laning pad; thn apply soldr to th tip to giv it a thin oating of soldr. This pross is alld tinning, and will prott th tip and nal you to mak good onntions. 3. Apply th iron to th omponnt lad and iruit oard pad at th sam tim and apply th soldr to th joint rathr than th iron. NOTE: Always us soldr 60/40 rosin or or lad-fr soldr intndd for ltronis us. W rommnd a fin grad of 1.0mm for st rsults. IMPORTANT Du to th risks of injury whn using a hot soldring iron it is rommnd that hildrn ar suprvisd whn soldring.

Do NOT rmov th parts from th plasti slv at this point as doing so would mak th omponnts mor diffiult to idntify during onstrution Ω Rsistors (R1,R2,R3,R4) 2 Ω Rsistors (R5,R6,R7,R8) 3 5mm Rd LEDs 4 22 µf Eltrolyti Capaitor (C1 & C2) 5 10 µf Eltrolyti Capaitor (C3 & C4) 6 Transistors (T1,T2,T3,T4) 7 Swith 8 Battry Clip STEP-BY-STEP ASSEMBLY Rmov th iruit oard from th pakt and idntify th top sid, th top has th part numrs printd on it, all of th omponnts will plad on this sid of th oard and soldrd on th undrsid. RESISTORS Th first omponnt to soldr ar th 100Ω rsistors markd R1, R2, R3, and R4 on th iruit oard. Carfully nd th wirs at 90 dgrs from th ody of th rsistor, paralll to ah othr so thy will fit through th hols on th iruit oard. Rsistors an insrtd ithr way round as thy ar not polarity snsitiv, howvr it dos look natr and mak idntifying things asir if you soldr thm all in th sam dirtion. Now follow th sam produr with th Ω rsistors to soldrd in to th positions markd R5 through to R8. LEDs LEDs or Light Emitting Diods must soldrd in th orrt way-round or thy will not light up. Thr ar two ways to idntify whih way-round an LED should usd. Th first is that th lgs ar diffrnt lngths, th shortr on gos at th ottom. Thr is also a flat dg on th sid of with th short lg. You will s that th flat dg is printd on th iruit oard to hlp with positioning.

4 CAPACITORS Th apaitors supplid in this kit ar polarizd Eltrolyti Capaitors maning that it is important that thy ar installd th orrt way-round. Th ngativ lg an idntifid y a whit strip printd on th sid of th apaitor. Printd on th PCB is a + symol to show whr th positiv lg should go. Th longr lg is th positiv onntion. TRANSISTORS Thr ar thr onntions on a transistor, th olltor (), th as (), and th mittr (). To mak it asy to idntify how to fit th transistor it has a flat sid and th iruit oard has an outlin printd on it to show what dirtion to install it. Th lgs of th transistor will nd to sparatd a it in ordr to fit in th hols, tak ar not to push th transistor in to far. SWITCH Soldr th swith in pla so that it points towards th as of th tr. BATTERY CLIP Pass th wirs from th attry lip through th two hols on th iruit oard from th ak to th front. Th rd wir is th positiv trminal and should soldrd to th point markd + on th PCB. CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION Th Christmas tr iruit onsists of two astal osillators. Astal mans not stal maning that th iruit kps hanging stat. Th spd that th LEDs flash (known as frquny) is dtrmind y th valu of th apaitor and th harging rsistor. Th frquny is dpndnt on th amount of tim it taks for th apaitor to harg, inrasing th valu of th apaitors will slow down th flashing (rdu frquny) as thy will tak longr to harg.
