2 Instructors use Blogs in BOLT to enhance collaboration in the online classroom. Blogs may be available within your online course in BOLT. Blog vs Journal A Campus Pack Blog can be shared among an entire class, shared within a group, or shared with the whole world. The Campus Pack Journal is a self-reflective tool in which the default permissions are configured so that the journal is private between the student and the instructor. Accessing a Blog Your instructor will create a blog in BOLT in a content module. If you need to access a blog: 1. In your course, click Content 2. Click the module name in the left-hand navigation panel 3. Click the blog link in the content viewer on the right 4. The blog home page will load Bloomsburg University Page 2

3 Navigating in a Blog The navigation in your blog will look similar to the image below. 1. Course Name 2. Blog Title 3. Recent Entries button Bloomsburg University Page 3

4 Course Name 4. Add New Entry button 5. Tags button 6. Blog settings button 7. RSS button The Course Name link will load the course Collaboration Space. This area includes Content, Members, and Latest Activity modules. You can see this space below: Blog Title The Blog Title link will load the blog home page. Recent Entries Button The Recent Entries button will load a list of previous blog threads. Add New Entry Button The Add New Entry button will allow you to add a new thread to the blog. Tags Button Bloomsburg University Page 4

5 The Tags button will load the blog tag cloud. Blog Settings Button The Blog Settings button will load the settings page for the blog. RSS Button The RSS button will load your personal settings page which includes RSS settings. Bloomsburg University Page 5

6 Using a Blog Adding a New Entry To add your own entry: 1. Click the Add Entry button to start a new entry. You can enter the entry title in the text box at the top. You can use the text editor buttons to customize your entry. 2. Enter the blog details in the text area and click the Save button at the bottom of the page to complete the entry. 3. After saving the entry, the blog will appear in the center of the screen. Bloomsburg University Page 6

7 Finding Recent Entries in a Blog By clicking on the Recent Entries button, the user will be able to see a listing of the most recent postings. Selecting one of the entries will take the user directly to that page. Bloomsburg University Page 7

8 Changing Blog Settings Click the Settings button to change options in the blog. a. Subscribe allows you to sign up to receive periodic s summarizing the latest activity. b. Export will allow you to export the entire blog to your computer as a zip file. Bloomsburg University Page 8

9 Changing Personal Settings Use the RSS Button at the top right of the graphic banner to modify your personal settings in a blog: 1. On the My Profile page, a. To change your Profile Image, click the Change Image button b. To add information about yourself, type into the About Me box c. If you want others to find you, select the box next to Allow other people to find me in the public directory d. Select Show all pages in high contrast whenever I m logged in if you want to display blog pages with high contrast e. Set your login and password to access secure RSS feeds of blog content and updates Bloomsburg University Page 9
