3 Workstation Client TCP-9099 Network Server Live Network ICMP/SNMP/Telnet/SSH Step 1 Install the Server and Client Software 1.1 Install the Customer License Server and Workspace Server a) Download ESv5.4G1 Software to a Windows 2003, 2008 or 2012 Server b) Run the Setup File and Follow the Setup Wizard Download the NetBrain software. Unzip the file after download. Note: Try this backup download link if you run into any issues with the primary link. Important Note: There must be more than 3GB free space in the system drive (mostly C drive) to complete the installation no matter which drives the NetBrain system will be installed on. If you only have one server workspace, we suggest installing Customer License Server (CLS) and Workspace Server (WSS) on the same Windows server. If you have multiple workspaces to be created under multiple WSS servers, then please follow steps A1.1 and A1.2 in the Appendix to install CLS and WSS on separate Windows servers. For Windows 2008 and Windows 2012, we recommend that you right-click on the setup file and select the Run as Administrator option. 4 c) Register the Workspace Server on Customer License Server In the Workspace Server step, select the Register to License Server option. In the POSTGRES installation step, use the default port and keep the default username as postgres and set the password. d) Activate Your License After the installation wizard is finished, NetBrain License window pops up. For trial license (POC user): Click on the Trial Activate button. Fill in your and Activation Key in the Register for Trial License window. (The Activation Key has been sent to you in the Proof of Concept .) For permanent license (Customer): Click on the Activate Permanent License button. Fill in your License ID, password, name, and address in the Activate Updated 12/17/2014 4

5 License window and then click the Activate Online button. (The license ID and password have been sent to you in the Order Delivery .) Note: If your license server is NOT connected to the Internet, please and we will send you instructions to activate the offline license. e) Continue the Installation Click Close in the NetBrain License window to continue the installation. Note: If you do not want to install other components (Automation Server/Network Server/Workstation) on this server, click Cancel in the corresponding window to cancel the installation and go to step 1.1h and follow the steps to install them separately. f) Specify the Service Port for Automation Server In the NetBrain Automation Server window, specify the service port for the Automation Server. Follow the setup wizard to complete the installation of NetBrain Automation Server. Note: By default, the Service Port is g) Specify the Service Ports for Network Server In the NetBrain Network Server window, specify the ports for the NetBrain Benchmark Service and Proxy Service. Click the OK button to continue the installation process after the Files in Use window pops up. i) Log into the Customer License Server Web Interface Enter URL or domain name of Customer License Server>/netbrain. The default username/password is admin/admin. Note: If the web page does not come up, please check the default IIS web page. If the default IIS web page does not come up, check the IIS setting and reinstall IIS. j) Load Shared Workspaces to Customer License Server Click the Workspace Server tab, one Workspace Server (on the left pane) and the Workspace1 entry (on the right pane) will be displayed. 7 Note: 1. Shared workspaces should be created on Workspace Server, and must be authorized in the Customer License Server to operate in the EE workstation. By default, if only one workspace is created on the Workspace Server, the system will allocate all seats and nodes license to this workspace during the installation process. When other workspaces are created, administrator will need to assign the seats and nodes manually. 2. If Workspace Server is not listed under the Workspace Server tab, please follow step A1.2b to register the Workspace Server on the Customer License Server manually. If you want to create multiple Shared Workspaces on the Workspace Server, please follow step A1.2c and then allocate Seats and Nodes for Shared Workspaces. k) Associate Automation Server with Workspace Server Log into the NetBrain Workspace Server homepage by entering URL or domain name of Workspace Server>/Workspaces/Login.aspx with admin privileges, switch to Automation Server tab and click the Add Automation Server button to associate the Automation Server to the current Workspace Server. 8 1.2 Install the Automation Server (Note: If you want to install Automation Server on the same machine as your CLS/WSS servers, please follow the 1.1 installation wizard. If you want to install Automation Server on a separate machine, please follow steps 1.2a-1.2d below.) a) Download the Automation Server Installation Package b) Run the Setup File and Follow the Setup Wizard c) Specify the Service Port for Automation Server Open the Customer License Server homepage by entering URL or domain name of Customer License Server>/netbrain and click on the Automation Server DOWNLOAD SETUP link. Then save the file. For Windows 2008 and Windows 2012, we recommend that you right-click on the installation package and select Run as Administrator option. In the NetBrain Automation Server window, specify the service port for the Automation Server and then follow the wizard. In the NetBrain Network Server window, specify the ports for the NetBrain Benchmark Service and Proxy Service and follow the wizard. 10 1.4 Install the NetBrain Workstation (Note: If you want to install Workstation on the same machine as your CLS/WSS/NS servers, please follow the wizard. If you want to install Workstation on a separate machine, please follow steps 1.4a-1.4b below.) a) Download the Workstation Installation Package b) Run the Setup File and Follow the Setup Wizard Open the Customer License Server homepage by entering URL or domain name of Customer License Server>/netbrain and click on the Client Workstation DOWNLOAD SETUP link then save the file. For Windows Vista and Windows 7/8, we recommend that you right-click on the installation package and select Run as Administrator option. If you want to install multiple Automation Servers on other machines, please follow step 1.2. If you want to install multiple Network Servers on other machines, please follow step 1.3. If you want to install multiple NetBrain Workstations, please follow step 1.4. Step 2 Import User Information from LDAP/AD (Optional) 2.1 Import Groups from LDAP/AD Server a) Enter the LDAP/AD Information On the Customer License Server webpage, click User Accounts > External Authentication Server. Check the Enable LDAP/AD Authentication checkbox and fill in the server information. Notes: For the LDAP Authentication server, the server address should be entered like this: /dc=example.dc=com Where is the server IP address, "dc" denotes 'Domain Component'. For the AD Authentication server, the server address should be entered like this: /DC=NBTEST,DC=com Where is the server IP, NBTEST.COM is the domain name. 11 b) Import User Groups On Demand You can enter keywords into search groups, or you can leave the search field empty to view all groups. Select the groups you want to add to NetBrain and click the > button to move it to NetBrain. Then click the Submit button. c) Edit the Imported Roles You can find the imported role information within the Roles tab. Edit the roles based on your needs. 2.2 Synchronize the User Information with the External Server a) Synchronize the User Information On the Customer License Server webpage, go to User Accounts > Users, then click the Synchronize with external server hyperlink. All users who belong to the imported groups will be displayed here with the Source field of AD or LDAP as shown in the picture below. Updated 12/17/

12 b) Grant Special Permissions to Specific Users Click on a user to open the User Properties window. The user inherits the role from its group. Apart from the default role, you can also add more roles to the current user. Step 3 Discover your Live Network 3.1 Log into to the Workstation a) Launch EE Workstation Select a Workspace Server in the Server drop-down. The default username/password is admin/admin and it can be changed in the Customer License Server. 3.2 Run the Workspace Wizard (Note: The workspace wizard should automatically start when you open the Workstation for the first time.) 13 a) Wizard Step 1: Define Telnet/SSH/SNMP Credentials and Proxy 1. Click the Telnet/SSH login tag. 2. Click the Add button. 3. Enter the corresponding values; Alias can be any unique name. 4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 to add all possible Telnet/SSH login credentials. 5. Click the other tags to add Privilege Password, SNMP RO community string, Private Key and Network Server (Network Server is the server you just installed in step 1.3). 6. 14 b) Wizard Step 2: Discover Your Network from a Seed Router 1. Click Telnet and SNMP and select the method for the system to access your live network from the drop-down menu. If you are not sure, select Telnet/SSH and SNMP. 2. Enter the IP address of a seed router. 3. Click the Start Discovery button. 4. Select an entry to view the log. Note: NetBrain Network Server must have SNMP access to a device to discover the device type and vendor/model as well as CLI access to the device to retrieve configurations and L2 data for L2 topology. One common issue for NetBrain to discover a device is that Network Server is not allowed in the ACL to access the device. Please refer to this link for details. 5. View the discovery statistics and summary. Note: The discovery process includes three steps: discover the network devices and retrieve live data from your network, build L3/L2 topology in the Workspace Server, and refresh Workspace data from the Server to the Workstation. Depending on the size of your network, the time it takes for each step varies (from a few minutes to 20 minutes). 6. Click the Finish button to exit the Wizard. 15 4.1 Verify L3/L2 Topology a) Map L3 Connections for a Device Group 1. Click on the Workspace pane on the left and extend device groups and system nodes. 2. Right-click on a device group in the Workspace pane and select Map All Devices. b) Map L2 Connections for a Site 1. Click on the L2 Topology pane on the left and extend the switch groups. 2. Right-click on a switch group in L2 Topology pane and select Map. 4.2 Create a Virtual MPLS Cloud (if Your Network Uses ISP) a) Add a New MPLS Cloud Go to the Workspace menu tab, and click on the Manager icon. Select MPLS Cloud on the left pane and click the Add button at the bottom of the right pane. b) Add CE Devices Fill in the BGP AS Number and click on the Create button. All devices pointing to this BGP AS will be added to the list automatically. CE devices can also be added manually by clicking on the Add button. c) Set up Auto Update for the MPLS Cloud Check the Auto update dynamic CE list via BGP AS number option to automatically update the MPLS cloud. 16 4.3 Divide Network into Sites a) Define the Site Tree Go to the Workspace menu tab, and click on the Site Manager icon to open the site manager window. 1. To define the site tree by importing a spreadsheet into NetBrain, click the Import from File button at the bottom of the site manager window to import a spreadsheet containing the site information. The file can be in MS Excel or CSV format. Note: The level number indicates the hierarchy relationship of a site. The lower level number represents a higher hierarchy level. NetBrain will retrieve the header of each column in the spreadsheet hierarchically. Users can include or exclude the hierarchy level by selecting the appropriate box. 2. Define the site tree manually. Right-click a site in the site tree or click the Add a New Site button to define the site tree. b) Load Devices into Sites 1. Load devices into sites automatically. In the Site Manager window, click the Border Interface tab to define the criteria to calculate sites dynamically, and click the Rebuild Site button to split the site from the network topology. 17 2. Load devices into sites manually. Switch to the Site Definition tab, and load specific devices to current leaf sites by selecting border Interfaces, performing dynamic searches, or adding devices manually. Note: The user is able to remove specific devices from a site by clicking the Exclude button, or from the right click menu. c) Drill Down in a Site 1. Map a site. 18 2. Drill down to devices inside a site. Right-click on a site and choose Action Pane to open the Site Action Pane. Drill down to the devices in a site by selecting one of the frequently used tools. 4.4 Set up a Benchmark Schedule a) Set up a Schedule to Run Benchmarking Click Workspace > Benchmark drop down list > Server Benchmark. In the System Benchmark row, click the Edit button to open the System Benchmark Properties window. Click the Enable Benchmark button, set the benchmark options and then click the Submit button to enable the recurrent benchmark. Note: The user can also enable or add another system benchmark task The option Compare new benchmark data with last data to detect network change event is for incremental Change Analysis which can be shown in the EE workstation. 19 4.5 Tune Discovery Results a) Rediscover Unknown IP 1. Go to the Workspace menu tab and click on the Manager icon. 2. Select Unknown IP on the left pane and then Username/Password Mismatch. On the right pane, the system lists all the IP addresses because the neighbor IP addresses were discovered during the discovery process but were inaccessible due to unmatched pairs of username/password. 3. Click the Rediscover button on the top right and add the username/password pairs in the Shared Network Settings window. 4. Close the Shared Network Settings window and click the Start Discovery button in the Live Network Discovery window. Note: You can use a similar approach to resolve unknown IPs due to mismatched passwords. b) Rediscover Devices That Were Discovered Only by SNMP 1. Go to the Workspace menu tab and click on the Manager icon. 2. Select Discovered by SNMP on the left pane and the system will list all the devices discovered by SNMP but not accessible by Telnet/SSH on the right pane. 3. Right-click on a device and select Live Access Log menu to see why the system failed to telnet/ssh to the device. If the Telnet/SSH login credentials were missing, click Workspace menu tag from the menu bar and then the Settings icon for Shared Network Settings to add the credentials. 20 4. Select one or multiple devices (press the Shift or Ctrl key) and right-click to select Discover Selected Devices. What s next? Click the Workspace Server tab then the Add button at the bottom of the Server pane (on the left) to open the Workspace Server Properties window. 23 c) Associate Automation Server with Workspace Server Log into the NetBrain Workspace Server homepage by entering URL or domain name of Workspace Server>/Workspaces/Login.aspx with admin privileges, switch to Automation Server tab and click the Add Automation Server button to associate the Automation Server to the current Workspace Server. d) Create Shared Workspaces On the Workspace Server, click Start > All Programs > NetBrain > NetBrain Enterprise Server > Add Shared Workspace to launch the Create Shared Workspaces tool. 24 e) Allocate Seats and Nodes for Shared Workspace on Customer License Server Webpage 1. Click the Workspace Server tab and choose Workspace Server on the left pane to switch to the corresponding Workspace List view. 2. Click Refresh to ensure all the shared workspaces are listed properly. 3. Choose the Workspace entry and click Assign License to allocate seats and nodes for this workspace. Note: Shared workspaces should be created on Workspace Server and must be authorized in Customer License Server to operate in the EE workstation. Please refer to steps 1.2, 1.3 and 1.4 to install Automation Server, Network Server, and Workstation. If you want to create multiple Shared Workspaces on the Workspace Server, please follow steps A1.2d - A1.2e.
