Also, using PlanetPress Server, non-postscript printers can be used. PlanetPress is a complete design tool for creating and modifying forms and map variable-data on electronic forms. An easy-to-use WYSIWYG graphic interface allows you to define form styles, add formatted text, bar codes, graphics/images, and select data, attach conditions, and create dynamic charts, graphs, messages, and logos. This module allows you to download electronic forms to the PostScript printer's RAM, flash memory, or hard disk. Data can then be sent directly to the printer, where all text, graphics, and data are merged, providing ultimate throughput and minimizing network traffic. 2 PlanetPress Version 6 delivers the following new capabilities: PlanetPress Server expands printing to a much wider range of printers. PlanetPress Imaging is repackaged for greater functional scope. PlanetPress Design is now available as a complimentary module. Data Capture from Windows expands document content options. PlanetPress extends integration with Web processes. Key prerequisites A PC with a Pentium III processor, or higher, running Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, or Windows XP A PostScript L2 or L3 printer A printer accessed via PlanetPress Server using a Windows driver Planned availability date July 18, 2008 Description PlanetPress Version 6 PlanetPress Server: PlanetPress Server is a new product option with Version 6. In addition to the current support for Optimized PostScript, it enables use of Windows print drivers to address other types of printers. Users can drive virtually any PostScript device using Optimized PostScript or Windows or non-postscript printer using Windows print drivers. This includes PCL, label, bar code, and other specialty devices. Customers gain more flexibility for automation, routing, distributed printing, and data repurposing for day-to-day printing operations, as well as occasional high-volume transactional print runs. In addition, PlanetPress Server can provide more cost-effective ways to support enterprise printers. The printers that are driven by PlanetPress Server do not need to have separate printer-based licensing. Data capture from Windows print stream: When print data from ERP, accounting, or other Windows applications is available only as preformatted jobs, repurposing the information for pie charts, columns, bar codes, or reports is nearly impossible. PlanetPress Suite 6 captures files from standard Windows applications and converts these print streams into a usable format for PlanetPress Design documents. You can repurpose the data in a flexible fashion and get more work done correctly and without delay. PlanetPress Design: With PlanetPress Suite 6, PlanetPress Design (formerly Design Tool) is offered as a complimentary module, not a separately priced module. This makes it easier and more affordable for companies to standardize on one design platform for their variable documents. At the same time, options for output are expanded because documents created with PlanetPress Design can be printed on virtually any type or number of printers. PlanetPress Imaging repackaged: PlanetPress Image, PlanetPress Fax, and PlanetPress Search are now bundled as PlanetPress Imaging. New customers receive all the products as a single item whenever any one is ordered, and current customers covered by OL Care will receive them at upgrade time. Customers gain a streamlined environment to simultaneously print, , fax, and archive documents in PDF, TIFF, JPG, and other image formats. In addition, PlanetPress Suite 6 uses the same RIP engine as Adobe Distiller to ensure predictable and consistent PDF quality. PlanetPress Server and PlanetPress Watch process online forms for real-time fulfillment and they can communicate with a third-party Web server and launch a process based on the response.
