1 Software Announcement October 31, 2000 IBM ViaVoice for Windows, Release 8 Family of Products, Spanish Language Version, Delivers Improved ViaVoice Performance Overview This next generation product line release from ViaVoice is the result of the accumulation of IBM s 30 years history in speech recognition research and development. The ViaVoice for Windows, Release 8 family of Spanish-language products brings all of the ViaVoice for Windows, Release 8 function to the Spanish-language user. The ViaVoice Correction facility is improved making it faster and more intuitive to use. The ViaVoice for Windows products can be personalized with the new capability to define Attention Words, which can be used to precede commands. In addition to these enhancements that affect all products in the ViaVoice Release 8 family of products, there has been the propagation of ViaVoice s seamless integration of function with Microsoft Word 97 and Word 2000 across the product line including the Standard Edition and, of course, the flagship product of the family, the Pro Edition. Along with this seamless integration of dictation is the powerful, intuitive control of these applications using ViaVoice Natural Language Commands. With the Pro Edition product, users receive a USB connector along with their noise-canceling headset microphone to provide a choice of experiencing the clarity of digital audio input through their computer s USB connection or the continued use of the microphone through their computer s sound card. The Pro Edition contains further enhancements to its productivity and usability called ViaVoice Marks, which provide state-of-the-art speech interaction between the user and computer. 2 Description The Spanish-language versions of the ViaVoice for Windows, Release 8 portfolio of products consists of two consumer-oriented ViaVoice products: The newest release of the ViaVoice for Windows, Release 8 product line program builds upon the award-winning features previously found in the ViaVoice Millennium product line. The ideal tool to help users maximize their efficiency, ViaVoice for Windows provides a new robust feature set that enhances the capability of Internet, small office/home office, and corporate professional or power users to deliver efficient productivity. The application enhancements that contribute to this productivity include such features as the seamless integrated dictation in Microsoft Word 97 and Word 2000 or the dictation in ViaVoice SpeakPad available in all products of the family. ViaVoice for Windows also includes Text-to-Speech capability for additional proofing capability. Text-to-Speech allows dictated text to be read back while changes are being made. With new features such as improved voice and document analysis, unsupervised enrollment using IBM s newest ViaVoice products has never been easier. The Pro Edition is the flagship offering of the ViaVoice for Windows product line. It represents the premium power product for the ultimate productivity tool. The Pro Edition product offers complete flexibility of dictation; from integration of dictation directly into Microsoft Word 97 or Word 2000 to the capability of dictating into SpeakPad and then transferring the data to the Windows application of choice. The Pro Edition takes efficiency one step further by including Microsoft Word voice-enabled templates that make repetitive document and data creation such as faxes and business letters an easy voice-activated activity.
