10 COPTER OUTDOOR - OBJECTIVES Improving decision support for operational planning by providing real-time situation awareness accurate 3D terrain maps of the current situation automatic detection and localization of radioactive sources radiation maps to show potential hazardous zones immediate visualization of results on a hand held device à increased personal safety UAV, Laser scanner, radioactivity sensor, others Real-time situation awareness First responder hand held device for operational planning 9

11 COPTER OUTDOOR - HIGHLIGHTS Accurate 3D Terrain maps live data streaming to ground station while Copter (UAV) flies across area 3D Terrain map is updated in real-time based on laser measurements Dynamically improving and growing ground model New laser points are added dynamically and sequentially to 3D terrain model See through vegetation Revealing hidden pathways Impassable streets Terrain irregularities 3D Terrain map including vegetation 10

15 CONCLUSION / OUTLOOK The use of robots an copters equipped with cutting edge technology such as 3D Laser scanners and radiation sensor can significantly improve the decision making process during disaster response. This leads to an increased safety of first responders and civilization Current projects evolved from SecuRescue where different kinds of sensors are tested and evaluated (e.g.: DURCHBLICK) 14
