What is Generative Design? As currently defined by public statements Generative design encompasses a design process that involves algorithms. It is a technology that mimics nature's evolutionary approach to design. It is used to design complex shapes and optimized forms in relationship to forces, cost, weight, and other data that may influence the design. It starts with design goals and then explores all of the possible permutations of a solution to find the best option. Page 6
Generative Design Solution Much more than just topology optimization Topology Optimization for Designers Topology Optimization for Analysts FE design optimization Mesh Morphing optimization Composites optimization Integrated design optimization Multi-Discipline Optimization Design Space Exploration Baseline Optimized Design Page 7
Convergent Modeling Technology Work directly with facets, surfaces and solids Remove need to reverse engineer facet data Enables solutions like Topology Optimization to seamlessly fit into the design process Eliminates the error-prone, costly process of rework, while supporting new manufacturing techniques for complex and irregular shapes such as 3D printing Page 8

Filling the Gap 2D image (photograph) 3D faceted body One step conversion Combine facets and curvy surfaces into a single body Curvy surfaces design Page 10
Convergent Modeling Polygon modeling Scanning CONVERGENT MODELING Additive / subtractive manufacturing Assembly design Design without conversion In-process work piece Topology optimization Finite element analysis Finite element analysis Motion volume CAE Mesh 10x faster than traditional methods! Documentation Tooling Page 11
Design with Convergent Modeling For visible parts that require generative design, you need some human influence on the shape, finish for aesthetics, brand recognition etc. Prismatic features Freeform features Modify generative models by adding precise geometry Combine facets with precise geometry Page 12
Polygon Modeling Capability Dedicated environment for editing facet geometry Works on bodies with and without history Customer Benefit Easy to use History free editing within NX Easy prep for molding or additive manufacturing Page 13
Lightweight Structure Design Capability Fill a volume with lattices Lattices are represented as facets Customer Benefit Easier to design lightweight parts Reduced material use Page 14
NX Design Key Investments Accurately represent what is real and simulate what is possible Generative Design with Convergent Modeling Design efficiency MBD / MBE ECAD / MCAD integration Page 15
Selection and Visualization Efficiency Capability 3D box selection Visualization enhancements Customer Benefit Easier selection in large, complex design Improved performance and better understanding of design Page 16
Context Efficiency Capability Multiple Display Parts Tab-based layout for multiple windows Customer Benefit Fast, easy switching between parts and applications Easy change impact analysis Easy comparison between parts Efficient use of screen space and multiple monitors Page 17
Feature Modeling Variable Offset Face Capability More offset types New option to offset as solid Create offset regions of different thicknesses Improved support of multi-material parts Customer Benefit Faster creation of complex surfaces More robust method for creating lightweight parts Easier embedded electronics creation Page 18
Flattening and Forming Capability Improved control when flattening and forming surfaces Customer Benefit Flatten complex shapes without distortion Faster feature updates Page 19
Animation Designer Capability Animate almost any type of geometry Simple command structure Automatic collision detection Customer Benefit Reduced need for physical prototypes Find and repair issues in the same environment Higher quality through faster design iteration Page 20
NX Design Key Investments Accurately represent what is real and simulate what is possible Generative Design with Convergent Modeling Design efficiency MBD / MBE ECAD / MCAD integration Page 21
Model Based Definition The benefits for adopting MBD are widely known and accepted by customers across all industries MBD Adoption not if, but rather when Customers are transitioning to MBD and looking for ways to be more productive and competitive Page 22
The Promise of Model Based Enterprise 30% total product development time and effort is used to create and maintain drawings Improved Clarity and Usability 3D Model Based Definition is the single source of truth The human mind can understand three dimensional data more readily than two dimensional data resulting in a shorter learning curve Page 23 50% reduction in supplier response time 50% reduction in prototypes Mistakes reduced by 40% Companies are more efficient with reduce costs It is more efficient to reuse and organize the 3D information then recreate that information in a drawing Drawings results in more files to be managed, additional time needed to recreate product information, and more chances of error
Convert to PMI Capabilities Convert to PMI command from Drafting converts piece part or assembly drawings to PMI Each drawing view is created as a corresponding PMI Model View Most drafting annotation objects can be converted to PMI (e.g. title block, drawing borders and tabular notes are unsupported) Drafting settings are preserved in the PMI Model View (e.g. layers, cross hatching, fore/background rendering, hidden components) Converting drawings to PMI via batch is supported A report will be available to document the results of the Drawing conversion Customer benefit Supports company Model Based Definition initiatives Page 24
