All chain hould lie open, reembling a crocheted chain. H-ch = Horizontal chain. H-loop = Horizontal chain loop
Specialty Stitch Intruction S = CC-R You move the Slipped titch chain two titche to the right. See illutration below. A you can ee, I do not ue a dpn, or cable holder. Of coure you can if you'd like, but thi i much fater once you get the hang of it. I call it the SPP method( Stick, Pinch, Pull). 1. Stop 2 titche before the chain. 2. Inert RN into chain (Stick). 3. Pinch all 3 titche together with the right thumb and index finger. Stitck RN into chain titch, Pull off chain and other 2 titche with RN. Pick up the two freed (white )titche with LN. 4. Replace chain to LN and knit through back loop. You will notice that the left leg of the chain i the front ide of the needle. Thi i neceary o that the chain loop lay open and flat on the urface of your knitting.
S = CC-L (2) Move Slipped t to left, two titche. 1. Knit to chain. 2. Stick RN (right needle)into back of two titche to left. 3. Pinch, Pull, and releae chain titch. Pick up chain titch with LN. Slip the two titche moved back onto the LN. Knit Knit chain.
CCC= Cable Chain Cro Put titch 1 &2 (C ch and center t) on cable holder/ or dpn, hold to front of work. Knit chain titch(3) to left. Slip center t(2) onto LN, Knit. Slip remaining chain(1) onto LN. Make ure the left leg of titch in at front of work o that the chain loop lay flat on the urface of your work, K -ch. You can alo work thi uing my SPP(tick, pinch, pull) method. Begin by ticking the tip of the RN into the back of t #3 (left ide chain); SPP, releae t 1-2; pick up t 1&2 on LN. Knit titch.
Knitting Note 1. I ue a long eparate trand of yarn for my Oval chain. Why? Thi give you the flexibility to adjut the tenion on your chain forming the oval, making it poible to have rounder corner. Cut about a 2 yarn trand, pick it up in the middle to make you firt titch a illutrated by the tarred titch above. You will be uing the right tail to go up the right ide, and the left tail to continue up the left ide after you complete the horizontal chain acro the 29th row. 2. When I work Intaria, I pit plice a new trand of yarn on to the working yarn, rather than adding in a new one. I unwrap the yarn about 2 to 3 inche of the working yarn, and cut off one ply. I do the ame for the new yarn, then I pit plice them together. 3. Plan your colored trand addition. I often take one long trand and pick it up in the middle to begin the color, epecially when it i a ingle titch of color going in two direction. Pattern Intruction I am going to give you the firt complete diamond border in a row by row fahion. From that point on you will follow the chart, accept for thoe row that are tarred- ( ). Thee row are marked on the right ide of your chart. adjacent to the number of the row. All even numbered row are purled, and the chain lipped, accept for the tarred row that include the bottom and top edge of the oval frame.

Tropicana Roe Pillow Etablihing the Oval Frame Row - 39 The tarred titched in row 39 begin the Oval frame uing horizontal chain to form the frame around the roe. To begin thi ection, knit the tarred titch (titch #40) and the next one to the left(41). Now, lip thee two titche back onto the LN. Uing a crochet hook, holding a eparate trand of yarn in the middle( about a yard and a half long, divided into), inert the hook into titch 40 and pull through a loop (*ee knitting note). Lay thi loop to the left, and hold it down with your left thumb. Slip titche 40 and 41 back to the RN. Slip new loop onto RN. Thi new loop i the beginning of your horizontal chain which lay acro the bottom of the oval. Thee chain loop are alway knitted with what I call the Oval trand, even if it i the ame color. Stitch 40 See the Wandering Cable Chain tutorial PDF included with thi pattern for complete illutrated intruction on horizontal chain. You might want to work the practice piece firt. Begin working the horizontal chain acro the row, uing the frame trand for the H - chain, and the working yarn for the background titche. Pick up the lat H- ch at titch 90. Drop the Oval trand of yarn, and with the background working yarn, purl acro to the next tarred titch, t 40. You hould now ee the right tail of your Oval trand hanging on your left. Turn your work to the right ide. With your crochet hook, tick into the ame titch where you began your Horizontal Chain and pull up a loop from the eparate trand hanging in the back of your work. Put it on the LN. Turn. Purl that H-loop, with the next titch to your left, making ure it lay flat on the front of your work. Continue acro and complete the ret of the row a indicated on the chart.
Horizontal loop of econd row, right bottom corner of oval. Beginning of Horizontal Chain Thi i jut a watch view, but your new chain leaning to the right hould look like thi. Once finihed, you now can decide if you want to outline the roe with a crocheted chain a I did, or leave the needlepoint look. If you are going to outline, then ue only one ply of the wool. You can ee in the photo that I ued the lightet hade of almon. The line below indicate where I crocheted the edge of the roe.
Getting Ready to Block A. Stop here and weave in all tail before proceeding. 1. With right ide of work facing you, place marker on needle. Pick up 132 t,(extra titche are for corner eae) down left ide of pillow top to corner. Pull your needle through a before. You now have the lat row of knitting and the titche you picked up on the left ide on one 47 inch circle needle. We will call thi needle- NA or needle A. 2. Turn the bottom edge of the pillow up o that the purl ide i facing you. Carefully releae the proviional chain. Uing your econd 47 inch circle needle or NB (needle B), working from right the left, inert the working needle in each loop from the back to front.. After all the titche are on needle B, turn your work o that the right ide i facing you. Knit acro all the bottom edge titche (129 t). 3. Continuing with needle B, pick up the 132 t on the right ide of the pillow top. Pull NB through o that the bottom and right ide ret on it cord.. With the pillow top reting on the cord of both needle, you can now oak the pillow top in cool water with a bit of wool wah. Squeeze out the water, and block it on a towel that ha been place on a urface you can pin through. Ue your needle a blocking rod, pinning againt them to block your pillow to ize, 16 by 16. Let dry. If you need your needle, thread a trand of wate yarn, and carefully remove one needle, picking up the edge t. Repeat thi proce for each needle. Set top aide for later aembly. Below i a n illutration of the needle et up for blocking your pillow.
Tropicana Roe Pillow Back 1. Cat on 129 a before.,. 2. Your option for the back are many- A. Knit it in plain Stockinette B. Duplicate the front without the picture C. Fold under and inert a zipper. You can alo re-enforce it with ribbon.
Edge Option A you can ee in the picture at the beginning of thi file, I originally choe to leave my pillow plain. But, then, I jut had to try making a fringe. See picture on next page. Thi fringe i made up of 3 trand of 7 in. long yarn, folded into, and drawn through with a crochet hook, every other t along BO edge. I think it work well, but it' your call. Be ure to comb out and team your fringe before trimming.
