3 View the Project We will be working with a Real Estate company called Sunset Developers who not only build houses but also handle real estate saless and purchases as welll as mortgages. They would like to create a captivating PowerPoint presentation to play at a kiosk that runs automatically in the lobby of their offices so that clients can seee it while waiting for appointments. You will also be creating a presentation n for a scuba diving shop called Reef Scuba. They need a presentation to play on their TV screens, in-between their underwater videos, for shoppers to view. 4

4 Section II II Advanced Animation Techniques There are 2 methods to liven up a slide 1) Animation and 2) Builds. Both methods can produce similar and different results. Animation involves applying various animations to an object or text to make it move onn the slide in different ways. Builds actually work from slide to slide and can involve no animation other than progressing from one slide to the next, but they can appear to be animation to the person watching the presentation. It is similar to quickly flipping through pages in a flipbook, to make a cartoon drawing animate. Image Layering Animation We can use shape layering to create a lasting message by combining the background of a slide with AutoShapes and a text message. This may look like a build, but it is really a creativee way to reveal different aspects of a slide. Adding a Different Backgroun nd The first thing we want to do is create a slide thatt has a different background from our master that contains a picture of a house. 1. In the Sunset Development presentation, create a new blank slide between Slides 3 and 4 and use the Blank slide layout 2. Right-click on the slide and select Format Background, then check the box to Hide background graphics 3. Click the box next to Picture or texture fill 4. In the Insert from: section, click the File button 5. Choose the picture file titled House from the PPT 2010 Advanced practice files on your desktop, and click the Insert button 6. Click Close 20

5 Adding WordArt Now we want to add our text message that will be revealed when our shapes disappear. 1. On the Insert tab, in the Text group, click on the WordArtt button 2. Choose the 2 nd WordArt style in the last row 3. Type the text: Sold! By Sunset Developers 4. Click in between Sold! and By and press Enterr to create a return space between the 2 words 5. Change the font size to 44pts 6. Click-and-dr rag the WordArt to center it on thee slide Combining AutoShapes and WordArt Now we want to combine an AutoShape with the WordArt. We will want to make sure that the AutoShape is behind the text but we also want to then group them so that the text and shape are one object. 1. On the Insert tab, in the Illustrations group, click Shapes and choose the Bevel shape in the Basic Shapes gallery 2. Draw the shape so that it is around the WordArt text 3. Right-click on the new shape and click Send too Back so that it is behind the text 4. Select the WordArt text then hold down your Ctrl key and select the Bevel shape as well 5. Right-click on the selected objects and choose Group, then choose Group 21

6 Adding Background Graphics to AutoShapes Now we want to create AutoShape triangles and add the actual background graphics to them so they appear to be the background of the slide. 1. Create 3 AutoShapes of one regularr triangle and 2 right triangles (located under the Basic Shapes). Rotate and size them so that they cover the slide exactly as shown below. (Hint: make the center triangle first and make it exactly as wide as the slide at the bottom, then fit the others in around it..) 2. Right-click on the first triangle and choose Format Shape 3. In the Fill section, check the Slide background d fill button 4. Click the Line Color option on the left and choose No Line 5. Click Close 6. Follow the same steps to apply the same formatting to each of the other 2 triangles 22

7 Animating the Shapes Now we can set animation that will reveal our message by eliminating each shape, but will actually look like the message is being built onto the slide piece by piece. 1. Click on the left triangle to select it 2. On the Animations tab, in the Animations group, click the More button to display the Animations gallery 3. Under the Exit section, choose Fade 4. Apply the same Exit animation to the right triangle and then the center triangle 5. Open the Animation Pane 6. Click on the Second animation in the Animation Pane listt 7. Click on its drop-down arrow and choose Start t After Previous 8. Do the same for the Third animation Click the Preview button to view the animationn Excel Charts with PowerPoint PowerPoint also makes it easy to insert an Excel Chart and apply custom animationn to it. Depending on how the chart is placed into a presentation, you can even animate each series individually in a chart. Adding an Excel Chart First we want to add the chart to the presentation n. 1. Open the Excel document titled Sunset Developers Charts, from the PPT 2010 Advanced Practice files 2. On the Homes Sold Chart sheet, copy the chart on the sheet 3. Go to Slide 6 in the Sunset Developers PowerPoint presentation and paste the chart 4. Delete the bulleted text box placeholder on the slide 23

8 Animating Series Data in a Chart Now that we have the chart added, we want to animate it so that each bar on the chart appears individually. 1. Click on the chart to select it. From the Animations gallery, choose the Wipe animationn from the Entrance section. 2. Click the Effect Options button (in the Animations group on the Ribbon) 3. Choose By Element in a Series 4. Click the Preview button to view the animation Adjusting Custom Animation Triggers Currently, each animation is set to start when we click with our mouse. However, it would be more beneficial to have each animated series automatically follow the next one so we don t have to keep clicking our mouse. 1. In the Animation Pane, click the double-black arrows under the listed animation so that it expands the list to show all series animations 2. Click the second animation listed in the Animation Pane 3. Click the drop-down arrow next to the Start field (in the Timing group on the Ribbon) and choose After Previous 4. Do the same for each additional animation in the series 5. Click the Preview button to view the animation 6. Close the Animation Pane 24

9 Review 1. Open up the Reef Scuba presentation 2. Create a new slide after Slide 2 and use the Blank layout style (Page 20) 3. Delete the background graphics on this slide and change the Background Fill to be the picture titled Shark Dive (Page 20) 4. Add WordArt to the slide (use the last WordArt style in the gallery). Type: Adventure Dives Every Month!, and includes a paragraph return between the words Dives and Every (Page 21) 5. Size the font to 44pts and make the font a Dark Blue color (Page 21) 6. Draw a Bevel AutoShape around the WordArt and place it behind the WordArt (Page 21) 7. Group the WordArt and the AutoShape into one object and center it on the slide (Page 21) 8. Add 3 parallelogram shapes (under Basic Shapes) to the slide, as shown in Diagram 1.3 on next page (Page 22) 9. Format each shape so that it uses the Slide Background Fill and no line (so thatt they blend into the background of the slide (Page 22) 10. Add the Exit animation called Random Bars too the center shape, then the left shape, then the right shape (Page 23 ) 11. Set the Animation orderr (using the Animation Pane) so that each animation automatically Starts After the Previous (Page 23) 12. On Slide 5, paste the chart from the Excel file called Reef Scuba Dive Charts. Delete the bulleted text box placeholder on this slide. (Page23) 13. Animate each bar series in the chart, so that they come in one at a time (By Element in a Series) using the Entrance animation called Zoom (Page 24) 14. Adjust the animation settings so that each onee automatically comes in after the previous, so you don t have to click your mousee for them to animate (Page 24) 15. Save your presentation. Final chart slide should look like Diagram 1.4 on next page 25
