2 IN THE WEST OF ENGLAND The West of England contains one of the strongest High Tech clusters in the world, consisting of technology companies, universities and research institutes. The global expertise extends across robotics, wireless technology, silicon chip design and sensors for embedded, enterprise and cloud-served software. As of 2013 there were 17,8001 people employed in the High Tech sector in the West of England. Between 2013 and 2020 employment in the High Tech Sector is forecasted2 to increase by approximately 1.3% equating to the creation of approximately 200 jobs. However, natural churn/turnover will occur within the sector, resulting in several thousand more jobs becoming available during this period. Due to the nature of the industry jobs will also come forward in new and emerging areas not currently recognised. However, these opportunities are not limited to the High Tech sector and may be emerging within different sectors that have a High Tech element such as Finance or Creative. OCCUPATION ADVERTISED SALARY 4 Based on information from local job advertisements the following information provides a broad indication of salary based on common occupations within the High Tech sector. Over a nine month period since the beginning of 2014 most of the jobs advertised for occupations related to the High Tech sector had advertised annual salaries ranging from 30,000 49,000. There were also a significant number of jobs advertised with annual salaries in excess of 50,000.
