WHAT WILL I STUDY ON THIS STUDY PROGRAMME? You will study a range of topics including: the online world digital portfolio technology systems creating digital graphics computing in the workplace website development spreadsheet development computational thinking installing and maintaining hardware multimedia products development installing and maintaining software. HOW WILL MY WORK BE ASSESSED? Most units have assignments that must be completed for your overall grade. There are also two units that have an externally set online exam. WHAT WILL I BE ABLE TO DO AFTER I COMPLETE THIS STUDY PROGRAMME? Many of our Level 2 ICT students go into IT apprenticeships or go on to our Level 3 Computer Science study programmes which allow you to specialise in Digital Development, Hardware, Games Design or Interactive Media. 4 COMPUTER SCIENCE DIGITAL DEVELOPMENT & HARDWARE TECHNICIAN PATHWAYS (LEVEL 3) COURSE CODE: TCF103 LOCATION: Corby Campus COURSE CODE: TKF103 LOCATION: Kettering Campus COURSE CODE: TWF103 LOCATION: Wellingborough Campus DURATION: 2 years ENTRY REQUIREMENTS 4 GCSEs grades A*-C or 9-4 including English and maths OR Level 2 in Information & Creative Technology. WHAT WILL I STUDY ON THIS STUDY PROGRAMME? In year one you will study a range of units, including: Principles of Computer Science Fundamentals of Computer Systems IT Systems Security and Encryption Business Applications of Social Media Impact of computing Digital Graphics and Animation Planning and Management of Computing Projects 6 Full-time Study Programme Guide Software Design and Development Project. In year two you will achieve the Extended Diploma, studying either the Hardware Technician pathway or the Digital Development route, or possibly a mixed route containing both elements. The units studied and campus of delivery will depend on choices made at the end of year one. HOW WILL MY WORK BE ASSESSED? You will produce professional documentation or reports covering internally assessed units. Nine units have internally assessed assignments, two units have external examinations and two units have external task based assessments. WHAT WILL I BE ABLE TO DO AFTER I COMPLETE THIS STUDY PROGRAMME? Level 3 qualifications can help you find employment, or give you the UCAS points needed for university (Distinction gives the same UCAS points as three A grade A-Levels). You will be able to move onto Computing HNC/HND at Bedford College, move onto a Degree or go directly into employment as a software developer or hardware engineer. BRADLEY S STORY STUDYING: COMPUTING AND IT LEVEL 3 I got into IT from a young age and loved playing around with computers as a hobby. When I first came to Tresham I needed to improve my GCSE English and maths grades, and have now managed to achieve grade C s. The IT course is definitely a good route into university; I hope to study Software Engineering at Southampton University because it is a leader in that industry. Call: Visit: 7
