4 Skills plan rationale Lord Sainsbury review of Technical Education and the Government s Skills Plan were published in July 2016 with the aim of providing a frame work to address: the skills gap at levels 4 and 5 through the level 3 and below progression pipeline. Academic path = well understood Technical/vocational path = complex

13 First routes - EOI Invitation to deliver first T levels in 2020 Digital, Construction and Education and Childcare routes: o Digital route: Software applications design and development T level o Construction route: Building services and engineering T level o Education and Childcare route: Education T level DfE are looking for a small number of institutions to deliver these T levels. Providers must have: o good/outstanding Ofsted rating (or be able to demonstrate standard of quality); o at least satisfactory financial health; o merit or above qualification profile. Closed 28 February Confirmation expected 'early May'
14 Improving understanding of post 16 institutions - DfE Next steps for providers; in Spring/Summer 2018 DfE plans to carry out the following: FE college staff survey of teachers and leaders o Focus on staff routes in and out of the sector Data collection on provider readiness to deliver T levels: o opportunity for colleges to self assesses their readiness to deliver: o which routes are planned o what support will be needed Post-16 omnibus survey o To gain colleges views of the wider context of post- 16 reform
