13 Course Evaluation All the modules will be evaluated by theory and practical exams at the end of each module, except the first module which is organised as awareness course also, in which only lecture & demonstrations of the case studies is there. So no formal exam for this module. It will be mentioned as attended in the grade card. Assessment criteria : Each module will end with exams for theory & practical for 00 marks each, and overall mark (0 00) will be given for each module. Semester Semester Semester Semester Description Course Work Course Work Thesis Work Module Detail Module to Module to Module 6 to Weightage (each) (each) (Total) Total % 00 % 00 % 00 % GRADING SYSTEM At the end of the course the final grade card will be given to the participants. The no. of marks will not appear in the grade card. The grading system being adopted in the M.Sc. Course is similar to that in ITC (since ITC has accredited) Marks Grade Excellent 0-9 Very good Good Pass 00-9 Fail The reason for not providing the no. of marks is that since most of the participants are from various govt. departments (since few years only self finance participants) sometimes no. of marks provide some unhealthy environment in the departments. 6
14 Eligibility for Thesis part of M.Sc. course. All the modules should have been completed successfully, and only no mark below 0 is allowed in two modules only.. Committee should should feel the ability to conduct independent research. Participants should get average of at least 60 in all the modules, only in two modules marks between 0 60 is allowed. Marks below 0 is not allowed in any module. Thesis must have a minimum of 60 marks Eligibility for M.Sc. with distinction Average of all the modules must be 0 or more, with a minimum of 70 marks in all the modules. Thesis must have a minimum marks of 0. 7 Resit If a participant scores less than 60 marks, then only resit is allowed. It is possible to score between marks only in a resit. However in the marks card, it will be indicated about resit. A flow chart showing the evaluation procedure is shown here,

16 Future Prospects It is proposed to change the name of the course from M.Sc. Environmental Assessment & Disaster Management to M.Sc. Hazard & Risk Analysis The change in the name is essential as the using the geoinformation technology it is not possible to cover all the aspects of Disaster Mangement cycle, now it is justified to change the name to reflect only Components which are being covered. Since awareness about the various Disasters has increased in India, there is necessity of trained manpower to use the available technology in various departments. More dedicated efforts to advertise the Hazard & Risk Analysis course is required. To continue this course in India the option available is Accreditation by ITC after December, 004 also with support for ITC faculty and support for the participants. In Govt. of India There was a National Center for Disaster Management (NCDM) which has been changed to National Institute for Disaster Management (NIDM) The objective of this center is to popularise the Disaster preparedness & Capacity building in Disaster Management. It is proposed to utilise their communication network for popularising this course.
