The Issues/Challenges Tomorrow is Today Tomorrow is Today At the end of this school year, classroom teacher computers will be eight years old are at the end of their usable life. iphone 4? June 2010 Building computers are not powerful enough for newer classroom programs (IE: STEM, PLTW)
The Issues/Challenges Tomorrow is Today Tomorrow is Today Security camera system was installed during the school year Required by law to retain video for 30 days These five servers and software are 12 years old and no longer supported (buying parts on Ebay) We cannot add anymore cameras to the system and replacement cameras are configured to their lowest quality settings to work with the current system
The Issues/Challenges Tomorrow is Today Tomorrow is Today Building clock and PA systems are failing and many are 25+ years old Numerous power outages over the last few years have caused havoc with our infrastructure equipment Lack of General Fund dollars has caused us to defer much of the needed equipment replacement purchases. We are strictly in a reactive phase of support.
State of Technology Technology has drastically changed since 2009 Wireless Technology ipads (2010), Chromebooks (2011), Smart Phones Social media (the way we communicate) Online access and Online Learning Future Technology Planning: Average person has three to four wireless devices 24/7 access to systems/information
State of Technology What have we done during these maintaining years? Everything needs to work Technology has become essential to our curriculum & operations Protecting our infrastructure has been our first priority Technology has a budget from the general fund that covers basic repairs
State of Technology - Devices Still able to add new devices Grants, Donations, PTO s, Fund raisers Chromebooks, 3D Printers, ipads, Android Tablets, Laptops, Desktops, PLTW, Software Chromebooks and G-Suite (Google Apps) are a game changer Added over 600 Chromebooks in two years Added stress on our aging infrastructure (wireless network)

Recap The Future: Keeping up with rapidly changing technology Over 3600 devices most with no warranty or upgradability Total devices on our network are over 5,000 plus BYOD. End of life for our equipment is here Technology installed in 2009 isn t adequate for today s needs At the point of not begin able to provide the services needed. There is a demand to get devices in students hands Chromebooks and Google Services are a game changer
Recap We will continue to do whatever we can to maintain district technology We don t anticipate that everything will stop working tomorrow. We need to replace our aging technology to support both the current and future needs of the district. The General Fund cannot sustain such a replacement effort or ongoing upgrades/replacement costs We can t afford to wait until there is a district-wide failure
Thank You
