1 Upgrade Kit for the 4300 Remote BAC Feature Number 4300-F1-100 Installation Instructions Document Number 4300-A2-GZ41-00 July 2004 About This Document This document describes the installation of the DSL/POTS protection and cross connection upgrade kit for the 4300 Remote Broadband Access Concentrator (BAC). The upgrade kit allows you to add a 4200 DSLAM to the cabinet. Using This Document Two types of messages may appear in this manual, identified by the following icons: Note - indicates special conditions. Caution - indicates possibility of personal injury or equipment damage. Inspecting Shipment On receipt of the equipment: - Inspect the shipping container(s) and note any signs of damage. Then unpack the container(s) and carefully inspect for damage to the contents. If the equipment has been damaged in transit, immediately report the extent of damage to the transportation company and to your sales representative. Order replacement equipment, if necessary. - Check the packing list to ensure complete and accurate shipment of all listed items. If the shipment is short or irregular, contact your sales representative. If the equipment must be stored for a prolonged period, do so in the equipment's original container. 5 Upgrade Kit Installation Instructions Upgrade Kit for the 4300 Remote BAC Installation Instructions 1. Install the DSL/POTS Protection/Cross-Connect Panel in an available rack space in the rear swing-out rack using the four screws provided. 2. Swing the rack out and attach the ground wire provided to the ground bus bar located on the rear wall of the cabinet. 3. Dress the two 25 pair cables with the MS² connectors over the backside top of the protection panel and secure using the plastic cable clamps provided. 4. Attach the cable clamp to the mounting screws along the topside of the protection panels. 5. Attach the cable clamp to the studs protruding from the top of the cabinet side. 6. Route the cable down the backside to the bottom of the cabinet. 7. Attach the cable to the cable support brackets on the back wall of the cabinet. 8. Route the DSL and POTS OSP cables into the cabinet through the rubber cable seal boots in the bottom of the cabinet. 9. Install an MS² connector on each of the incoming OSP cable stubs per Figure A DSL/POTS Connector Layout Diagram. 10. Mate the MS² connector from the OSP DSL Cable to the MS² connector on the DSL cable stub attached to the Protection/Cross-Connect Panel. 11. Mate the MS² connector from the OSP POTS Cable to the MS² connector on the POTS cable stub attached to the Protection/Cross-Connect Panel. 12. Route the cables through the cable support brackets on the back wall of the cabinet. 13. Coil the slack cable under the installed DSLAM units. 14. Use cable ties to secure the slack coil to the tie off bracket located in the rear of the cabinet. 15. Route the equipment cables coming from the DSL/POTS Protection/Cross-Connect Panel through the cable clamps previously attached. 16. Secure the cable to the wall using the cable support brackets. 17. Route the cable over the top of the cabinet in front of the equipment using the studs attach to the clamps to secure the cable. 18. Attach the cable clamps provided to the bolts that fasten the mounting rack in place along the top of the cabinet. 19. Route the cable through the previously installed cable clamps. 20. Plug the appropriate equipment cable connector into the appropriate ports on the DSLAM as required. 21. Install the 5-Pin protector modules into the appropriate sockets on the Protection/Cross-Connect Panel for the pairs to be used. Note The OSP DSL/POTS pairs will not be connected to the DSLAM Equipment until the 5-Pin Protector Module is inserted A2-GZ41-00 July
