7 Introduction About this manual - Part : Introduction About this manual Intended use of this manual This manual describes how to prepare the installation site for the installation of the PlateWriter System. The procedures described in this manual require a reasonable level of technical skill and access to the proper tools. Reservations This manual was written and illustrated using the best possible information available at the time of publication. Any differences between this manual and the equipment reflect improvements introduced after the publication of the manual. Changes, technical inaccuracies and typographical errors will be corrected in subsequent editions. As a part of our policy of continuous improvement, we reserve the right to alter design and specifications without further notice. 9 Overview - Part : Overview The installation procedure described in this chapter covers the following issues: Preparation of the installation site Transportation of the System into the installation site of the finishing unit Connecting the cables Preparing the installation site Environmental requirements Provide a heating and ventilating system capable of maintaining room temperature between 0 and 4 C (68 and 75 F) and relative humidity between 40 and 80%. Cleaning facilities We recommend that you have easy access to a sink and a water tap with hot water for cleaning purposes. 10 - Preparing the installation site Power outlet requirements If not already present, main power outlets should be installed in the room where the unit will be situated. Max. distance to the machinem(6ft.). Due to high leakage current, earth connection is essential before connecting power supply. The units are Class appliances and must be connected to earthed mains socket outlets. These units require a short circuit protection device in the building installation as specified below. The requirements below are specifications for preparing the installation protection. It is important to prepare the fuses/circuit breakers with adequate capacity as specified here. Specification on the unit's name plate is the actual input current and will thus not be identical to below mentioned. 11 Preparing the installation site -3 Power cables The equipment is delivered with the power cables required for the installation (USA only, outside USA these must be ordered separately). Cables are placed in the same box as imaging unit. If, for some reason, you decide to use cables others than the supplied, make sure that they conform to the directions given below. The conductors in the power supply cable should be of copper. 13 Preparing the installation site -5 Free space around the PlateWriter Decide where the unit shall be placed and make sure that the free space around it makes operation and servicing possible. Be aware of the following: Liquid Dot cartridges need to be replaced on the right side of the unit. Access to cables is required at the both sides of the unit. Plates are loaded onto the input table from the front right of the unit. After imaging the plate must be placed on the finisher unit's transport belts from the lower front of the unit. After finishing, the plate must be removed from the finisher unit s exit tray at the lower back of the unit. Carefully unpack the crates and boxes and verify that all parts are present according to the enclosed packing list and that nothing has been damaged during transportation. Crate contents. 17 -9 Assembling the stand You will need the following items from the tool box (see page -8 for details): 4 Follow the description below and the illustration on the next page. Locate the left and right leg stands for each of the two leg assemblies. It is recommended to assemble the leg stands with them lying face down on a large flat surface. Mount the crossmember frame (3) (pins direction up) to the right leg stand () and to the left leg stand () by using the four screws (4) as shown on next page. It is recommended to lay the one leg assembly against the wall, then lift up the leg assembly with mounted printer base, and mount them together. 65 Hardware - PlateWriter 3600 Pro

21 -3 Mounting the printer onto the stand You will need the following item(s) from the tool box (see page -8 for details): 4 This procedure requires the assistance of at least two persons, one on each side for lowering the printer onto the stand. The printer weighs approx. 00 kg. Mount the two crossbars (4) to the left and right stands (3) by using the four screws (5). 22 -4 You will need the following item(s) from the tool box (see page -8 for details): Position the stand legs (4) to the base deck () including the printer () and secure it by using the eight screws (6) including the fender bracket (5), the four nuts (7) and four screws (8) as shown below. For nuts (7) and screws (8) is necessary to use holes on the stand legs under the printer T443 When installation is complete, dismount the crossbars from the stand. 23 -5 Installing input and exit tables You will need the following item from the tool box (see page -8 for details): 5 T336 Insert the mounted input table () and exit table () into the brackets on the base deck (3) as shown on the picture below and secure them by using the wrench key. 3 T Hardware - PlateWriter 3600 Pro

24 -6 Connecting the imaging unit power cable & USB You will need the following items from the tool box (see page -8 for details): USA rest of world T3359 next to the RIP workstation box Connect the power cable (can be found next to the RIP workstation box) and the USB cable (no. ) from tool box as shown. Lead the cables to the right inside the stand base with the other cables. T33463 Securely connect the cables so they will not become detached during operation, leading to faulty operation or breakdown. Arrange the cable to prevent tripping when moving around the unit. 25 -7 Mounting the side panels You will need the following items from the tool box (see page -8 for details): 4 Mount the left panel () and right panel () to the base deck and secure right panel () by using the screws as shown on picture below. 26 -8 Attaching the finisher to the printer Slide the imaging unit () above the finishing unit () and secure (A) the position by using the button (3) as shown on the picture below. A 3 T3346 Hardware - PlateWriter 3600 Pro 60

27 -9 Attaching the finisher extension and the plate exit tray Position the finisher extension () and the plate exit tray () to the finishing unit and secure them with knurled nuts, place the sensor guard (3) as shown on the picture below. T44 60 Hardware - PlateWriter 3600 Pro

28 Back -0 Leveling It's important that the finishing unit is in level in order to ensure an even distribution of gum supply on the gum rollers. Slide out the imaging unit backward (see page -8 as reference how to slide out the imaging unit). Remove the curing oven cover (). Put the gum cover () aside. Install the polyurethane roller (6). The roller end with the bushing has to be installed on the non-gear side as shown on the illustration below. Place a spirit level on the gum roller (3) and level out by adjusting the legs (4). The counter nuts (5) must be loosened before adjusting the legs and tightened properly when finished. 29 - Filling/attaching the gum/finisher and waste ink bottles During finishing, gum/finisher solution is applied to the plate. The solution from the bottle is recirculated, meaning that any excess solution runs back into the bottle to be used for the next plate. Loose the two screws () from the stand, mount the bracket () to the finishing unit and tight the two screws () by using the screwdriver. Insert the thick hose to the tray mounted on finishing unit, and connect the thin hose to the fitting on the top of the bracket (). Fill the gum/finisher bottle (3) with gum/finisher solution and attach it to the bracket underneath the finishing unit. Attach the waste ink bottle (4) to the adapter underneath the left side panel. Fill the bottle (5) with the maintenance fluid and attach it to the other adapter underneath the left side panel as shown on the picture below. 4 5 T Hardware - PlateWriter 3600 Pro

30 - Filling/attaching the water tank You will need the following items from the tool box (see page -8 for details): During finishing, demineralised water is applied to the plate. The water from the tank is recirculated, meaning that any excess water runs back into the tank to be used for the next plate. Remove the two stoppers of the water tank (), fill it with the demineralised water, and position it underneath the finishing unit. Connect the suction pipe to the hose from the finishing unit and insert the suction pipe () into the water tank (). 6 T456 Hardware - PlateWriter 3600 Pro 60

31 -3 Connecting the print bed and registration system cables Connect the registration system cable (), print bed control (), power (3), fluid in cap system (4) and USB cable (5) cables to the plugs underneath the finishing unit as shown below. To connect the print bed power cable (3) properly, first connect the plug, then tighten the union into the socket. 3 4 T Hardware - PlateWriter 3600 Pro

32 -4 Connecting the mains supply cable and USB Opposite the gum/finisher container are the connectors for the mains supply of the finishing unit and the print bed and USB port for the connection of the finishing unit with the RIP workstation. You will need the following cable, which is placed next to the RIP workstation box, and the following item from the tool box (see page -8 for details): USA rest of world T3367 next to the RIP workstation box Connect the mains supply cable () between the appliance inlet and the main power outlet (). Connect the USB cable (3) between USB ports of the finishing unit and the RIP workstation (4). 4 T If you have ordered mains supply cable for rest of world, you must mount the plug from the maintenance kit cable. The cores in this mains lead are coloured in accordance with the following code: Green and yellow: Blue : Brown: earth neutral N live L Securely connect the power cable so that it will not become detached during operation, leading to faulty operation or breakdown. 33 -5 Attaching the monitor and the keybord stand You will need the following items from the tool box (see page -8 for details): Attach the keybord bracket (3) and monitor bracket (4) to base stand and secure it by using the finger screw (5) and the plastic washer (6). 34 -6 Program control and status indicator Finishing unit parameter BWS is set to 3 from the factory (backside wash is on). Adjusting parameters via the HyperTerminal is described in Software PCB PCU available from or Before commencing you should perform a quick check to ensure of proper connections between the main chassis and the curing oven and gum dryer. T3363 At the front right side of the main chassis locate the program control selector () and the status indicator LED (). Use the +/- buttons on the program control selector () to set it to "". Switch the unit on, both on the wall outlet and on the on/off switch located next to the mains supply cable inlet underneath the main chassis. Check the status indicator LED (): Constant GREEN light indicates that everything is OK. If LED flashes RED it indicates an error. In most cases it means that the curing oven or the gum dryer is not properly connected to their respective connectors. If LED is not lit, the safety switch for the curing oven or the gum dryer has not been properly activated or the program control selector () is set to "0". For further details on errors indicated by the status indicator LED, please refer to the Troubleshooting section of the Operating Manual. Hardware - PlateWriter 3600 Pro 540

35 Completing the installation check list 3- Part 3: Completing the installation check list In extension of the hardware installation procedure the following must be checked to ensure that all procedures have been completed and to ensure proper plate making quality after completing the installation of the equipment (text in italics refers to other documents): Check item Initial adjustment of print bed/print plane Check if the print bed/print plane is adjusted correctly and match the specifications on attached sheet from our production. If result deviates, follow the description found in part "Printer adjustment and setup" of this manual, copy the sheet, and it to Alignment of plate registration system Insert a -up for a landscape press with the gripper facing forward. Print the file for adjusting the front registration system described in part "Printer adjustment and setup" of this manual. After setting the plate, measure the distance from the front edge to the cut marks on the plate. If the plate is not aligned, adjustment of the registration system is needed. Head height, tilt, slant Check head height front and back by using height adjustment tool (.0 mm). Run the head slant CR and PF as described in part "Printer adjustment and setup" of this manual. Bi-directional Reset the bi-directional settings of the imaging unit and perform fine tunnig as described in part "Printer adjustment and setup" of this manual. Feed adjustment Print the file for adjusting the feed described in part "Printer adjustment and setup" of this manual. Select either the mm or inch job depending on the ruler you use. Measure the feed value and enter the value into the device configuration. Adjust the margins in the RIP on the device configuration To ensure a correct distance and centering of the image on the plate, please output a test job on a plate and measure the result. To correct type in +/- values in the top and left margin setting of the plug-in (Page Setup -> Configure Device). See also the "Image Position Options" in the Operating Manual. Setting the plate temperature and parameters of the finishing unit Run a plate through the finishing unit with heat sensitive strips mounted on all sides and in the center of the plate. Make sure to use the correct program with respect to the plate gauge. Check that the temperature is between 70 C and 90 C all over the plate.
