2 DESCRIPTION The ASNT_MUX64 can be used for test applications, design verification, and R&D environments. An external half-rate clock or a low frequency reference clock to the onboard PLL is needed to drive the 2:1 MUX. The Sync output provides oscilloscope triggering to view the pattern or eye diagram of any data. A Windows GUI (compatible with Windows XP, 7, 8) is used to control all adjustable parameters. Power is supplied with an included AC-DC power supply. The front panel of the instrument is shown in Figure 2. It consists of 1 differential data output with 1.85mm DC coupled female connectors, 2 differential data inputs with 2.92mm AC coupled female connectors, 1 single-ended half-rate clock output with a 2.92mm AC coupled female connector, 1 quarter-rate single-ended clock output with a female SMA AC coupled connector, 1 single-ended half-rate clock input with a female 2.92mm AC coupled connector, and 1 single-ended Sync output with a female SMA AC coupled connector. Figure 2. Front Panel The back panel of the instrument is shown in Figure 3. It contains 1 low reference clock input with a female SMA connector, the power ON/OFF switch which turns the instrument on and off, the -5V DC power supply (included) which connects to the male barrel jack shown, and the USB-B connector that allows connection to a computer for controlling the instrument through a Windows GUI. 3 Figure 4. Data Output 60Gbps PRBS7 Data Inputs Data Input 1, as well as Data Input 2, both have controllable 105ps of delay before entering the 2:1 MUX. Clock I/O s There are 2 single-ended AC coupled clock inputs: Reference Clock In is a low frequency reference clock input that needs at least 100mV of input amplitude to drive the onboard PLL s. The reference frequency range can be found in Table 1. External Clock In is a half-rate clock input that may alternatively be used instead of the Reference Clock In input to provide any data rate from 1Mbps to 64Gbps. This is achieved by providing at least 100mV of input amplitude from 0.5MHz to 32GHz. Rev
4 There are 2 AC coupled clock outputs: Half-rate Clock Out is a single-ended output from 0.5MHz to 32GHz with typical output amplitude of 0.4V peak to peak. Quarter-rate Clock Out is a single-ended output from 0.25MHz to 16GHz with typical output amplitude of 0.5V peak to peak. Sync Output Sync Out provides a selectable clock divided by 2*n where the n integer values range from 1 to 256. This output delivers AC coupled single-ended amplitude of 600mV. Sync Out can be connected to an oscilloscope s trigger to allow display of a pattern or eye diagram of any data.
