2.3.2 Calibrating the ink cartridges (only for Viper and Viper TX!!) Because the three Mutoh Textile inks have a different viscosity and behaviour, the ink cartridges have to be calibrated in order to function well. This calibration consists in setting the minimum, maximum and overflow level of each cartridge. Notes Find below more details on the calibration settings of the Mutoh Textile Inks. For RJ80DS-100 For RJ80DS1-100 For RJ80DS1-500 For RJ80DS-2500 MIN level = approx. 10 mm MAX level = approx. 12 mm MIN level = approx. 10 mm MAX level = approx. 12 mm MIN level = approx. 10 mm MAX level = approx. 12 mm MIN level = approx. 10 mm MAX level = approx. 12 mm Important Do NOT experiment with this setting when working with a BIS system for Rockhopper and Spitfire series printers. I could cause permanent damage for which we are not responsible Before calibration 41 AP-75201, Rev. 3.0, 12/03/2013
The PC tool should be in pump control mode and manual ink target level should be activated. Step 1 : Start up the PC tool and set the COM port. Step 2 : Go to the Manual Pump tab and press the following button to switch to pump control mode. Step 3 : Go to the Advanced Settings tab and fill in the password in the lower left corner. The password is the short date in the Regional and Language options menu from Windows. When the password is correct, an extra function will appear ( Use manual ink target levels ). Check this box and change the pump speed as explained in the next chapter. 42 AP-75201, Rev. 3.0, 12/03/2013
Select cartridge to calibrate With the up/down button, it is possible to select the cartridge which needs to be calibrated. The current level indicator indicates the current level of the cartridge. Be sure that it is below the minimum level! Notes Note that the value displayed is not the actual millimetres which have to be set. These are readable from the ruler on the ink cartridges Start calibration Step 1 : Insert the first BIS cassette into the cassette slot. Make sure the other cartridges are not yet inserted. This for an easy working flow. Step 2 : Connect the red cable of the cassette to the printer. Step 3 : Fill the cassettes on a high speed (100%) till the ink reaches approximately the 5 mm level. 43 AP-75201, Rev. 3.0, 12/03/2013
Step 4 : Lower the speed to % for an accurate calibration. Be sure that the pump speed is higher than 20%. Change the speed in the Manual Pump menu. Step 5 : Press the start button to calibrate the selected cartridge. Step 6 : Press the YES button when the software asks if you are sure. Step 7 : When the cartridge is not empty, a message will appear. It is allowed to press YES when the current ink level is below the minimum ink level (10 mm). If not, change the pump direction (arrows point to bottle) and empty the requested cartridge until its 44 AP-75201, Rev. 3.0, 12/03/2013
level is under the minimum level! Change the pump direction again afterwards and continue with the calibration Set the minimum ink level Step 1 : A message will appear after starting the calibration. Press OK to set the minimum ink level. Step 2 : Press the Set Min Target Level button when the ink has reached the minimum ink level which can be read from the ruler on the ink cartridge. 45 AP-75201, Rev. 3.0, 12/03/2013
Minimum ink level for Mutoh inks For RJ80DS-100 For RJ80DS-2500 For RJ80DS1-100 For RJ80DS1-500 = 10 mm = 10 mm = 10 mm = 10 mm Step 3 : Step 4 : After pressing the button, the pump will automatically stop. Read out the current level. The value should be lower than 170. If this is not the case, lower the range of the dipswitch. Please refer to the dipswitch table further on in this manual To change the range of the dipswitch, please refer to the chapter Changing the range further on in this manual. Step 5 : Confirm the minimum ink level by pressing yes when asked Set the maximum ink level Step 1 : A message will appear after the minimum level has been set. Press OK to set the maximum ink level. 46 AP-75201, Rev. 3.0, 12/03/2013
Step 2 : Press the Set Max Target Level button when the ink has reached the maximum ink level. The maximum ink level can be read from the ruler on the ink cartridge. Maximum ink level for Mutoh inks For RJ80DS-100 For RJ80DS-2500 For RJ80DS1-100 For RJ80DS1-500 = 12 mm = 12 mm = 12 mm = 12 mm Step 3 : After pressing the button, the pump will automatically stop. Step 4 : Read out the current level. The value should be lower than 230 and the difference between the max level and min level should be greater than 25. If this is not the case, change the range of the dipswitch. Notes Lower the range of the dipswitch to 0.0 if the max ink level is larger than 230. If the difference between max en min ink level is smaller than 25, higher the range to 1.0 or 1.1. When changing to a higher range, make sure that the max ink level is not higher than 230. Notes When you set the max ink level, and you have to change the range of the dipswitch in order to fulfil the above requirements, you have to restart the complete calibration for this new range. Notes 47 AP-75201, Rev. 3.0, 12/03/2013
To change the range of the dipswitch, please refer to the chapter Changing the range further on in this manual. Step 5 : Confirm the maximum ink level by pressing yes when asked Set cartridge full ink level Step 1 : A message will appear after the maximum level has been set. Press OK to set the cartridge full level. Step 2 : The cartridge full level is the level just before the cartridge will overflow. This level is necessary to know the saturation point of the level sensor. This level is important to limit the up/down boxes in the general monitor window of the BIS. Just before the ink reaches the mechanical overflow, press the Set Cartridge Full Level -button. Step 3 : Confirm the cartridge full level by pressing yes when asked. Step 4 : After pressing the button, the pump will first pump out the surplus of ink till it reaches the max limit. (12mm) then the pump will automatically stop. Step 5 : The calibration for cartridge 1 is done. Step 6 : Calibrate all the cartridges before printing. 48 AP-75201, Rev. 3.0, 12/03/2013
