1 Installation Instructions Issue Date 11/19/01 IFC-1010/2020 Replacement System Power Sources IMPORTANT: Always remove primary and secondary power before working on the system. Use the following procedure to disconnect power to the system: 1. Disconnect battery backup power by removing the battery interconnect cable. 2. Disconnect Alternating Current (AC) power to the panel at the main service circuit breaker (not the circuit breaker at the fire alarm control panel s power supply). 3. Wait one minute to allow for capacitive discharge before touching any of the system's components. Reverse this procedure to power up the system; power up the AC power first, then the batteries, and wait one minute before taking any other action, especially activation of the Acknowledge function.! WARNING: Failure to follow this procedure can result in a loss of program memory, damaged equipment, or system operation problems. 2001Johnson Controls, Inc. 1 Part No Rev. A
2 ! WARNING: To ensure complete compatibility between IFC-1010/2020 boards for systems that have software release 6.6 or earlier, all Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory (s) in the system must be listed as compatible in the Firmware Compatibility Chart located in the Library section of the Fire/Security Page on The Advisor (Products Focus > Fire and Security Systems [in the Field Support Center section] > Library > ifcgrp28.doc). The control panel will not function properly with a mix of s from different major software levels (Releases) or different firmware combinations (Groups). For systems with Merge firmware M2.8 or later, all combinations of firmware on the Central Processing Unit (CPU), Display Interface Assembly (DIA), Serial Interface Board (SIB), and Loop Interface Board (LIB) are acceptable so long as they have the same number immediately before and after the dot (.) in the firmware chip ID.! CAUTION: Turn off AC power to the IFC-1010/2020 or at the main service circuit breaker (not the circuit breaker on the Main Power Supply) or all IFC-1010/2020 programming information may be lost. Installation Use the following procedure for installing s: 1. Replace the applicable s after removing power from the system, and place each new in exactly the same orientation as the that it is replacing. Record chip ID and file for later reference. 2. Turn on primary AC power. 3. Test the IFC-1010/2020 system. Note: With the exception of new features, replacing the s does not require re-entry of the system database. 2 IFC-1010/IFC-2020 Replacement Installation Instructions
3 Handling Precautions for Integrated Circuits Static electricity can destroy Integrated Circuits (ICs). To prevent damage to the s you are handling in this procedure, use a grounded wrist strap and a static-free IC insertion/extraction tool. Use the diagrams below to confirm proper chip orientation. Pin 1 Notch (or Dot) ChipOrien Figure 1: DIP Style Firmware Chip Bevel PLCC Figure 2: PLCC Style Firmware Chip Integrated Circuit Pin Convention Observe proper orientation of any IC removed or installed. Note the location of Pin 1 with respect to the notch (or dot) in the body of the DIP style IC and the beveled corner on the PLCC style IC. Install the replacement in the same orientation as the removed and as shown in the following figures. Failure to observe this orientation results in destruction of the.! CAUTION: Software and firmware must be compatible system-wide. When in doubt, consult the Firmware Compatibility Chart located in the Library section of the Fire/Security Page on The Advisor (Products Focus > Fire and Security Systems [in the Field Support Center section] > Library > ifcgrp28.doc).
