3 FL000 System Introduction FL000 Rack Mount Termination Panel (Empty) Single Fiber Access Swing-out Bulkhead Allows Full Access The FL000 System is a flexible, modular and economical series of fiber products for today s and tomorrow s evolving communications and data networks. Features A complete line of modular panels and boxes, developed for cabinet, rack and wall mounting. Fully adaptable for large or small main distribution frame (MDF), intermediate distribution frame (IDF) or telephone closet (TC) applications. Designed for 9" (48.6 cm) EIA rack or cabinet environment found in many enterprise networks; optional brackets are available to accommodate 3" (58.4 cm) or ETSI rack or cabinet mounting. Provides termination, splicing and storage capabilities for in-building cables, outside plant cables and fiber optic terminal (FOT) equipment patch cords. Modular design offers maximum flexibility to satisfy both current needs and future growth requirements. A full line of options and accessories ensures compatibility with existing optical equipment. FL000 systems accommodate the Value-Added plug-in modules, adding flexibility and functionality to the optical transport systems. Splitters, wavelength division multiplexers (WDMs) and other optical components can be easily incorporated. All FL000 panels and boxes accommodate the modular FL000 6pak plug-ins. 6paks are available in all connector styles and can be ordered as needed. ADC s patented removable angled retainers allow easy access for single fiber maintenance. FL000 panels and boxes feature superior vertical cable protection and management. Rack mount panels are hinged on one side, allowing full access to the rear of the front plate and the interior of the panel. Rack mount panels are equipped with mounting brackets to provide 5" (.7 cm) recess mounting; mounting brackets are available for virtually any mounting application. Rack mount panels can be wall mounted. The new FL000 splice wheel allows easy roll-up of pigtail and buffer tube lengths and superior bend radius protection. The FL000 splice deck is available to complete existing installations. FL000 Rack Mount Termination Panel with IFC FL000 Rack Mount Termination/Splice Panel (Empty) 6pak Adapter Plug-Ins

4 FL000 System Applications Interconnect Configuration In an interconnect network, all outside plant (OSP) fibers are terminated at the back of the connector module and all equipment patch cords are connected at the front. Interconnect installations are most commonly found in small, price-sensitive and low-reconfiguration applications. OUTSIDE PLANT CABLE(S) TO OSP OUTSIDE PLANT CABLE(S) EQUIPMENT PATCH CORDS Cross-Connect Configuration OUTSIDE PLANT CABLE(S) Interconnect Configuration TO FIBER OPTIC TERMINAL EQUIPMENT EQUIPMENT PATCH CORDS In a cross-connect network, all OSP fibers and equipment terminations are terminated on the back of the connector module. Patch cords are used at the front of the connector module to cross-connect OSP fiber to the FOT equipment. The convenience and flexibility of the cross-connect system make it an attractive method for managing your fiber plant. Cross-connect is the preferred installation for maximum flexibility, simplified growth and cutovers, and protection of permanent connections. 5 FL000 System Applications Independent Service Provider Fiber Application Fiber termination bays or fiber panels provide a central point for terminating incoming fibers. Fiber jumpers, routed through a FiberGuide protection system, connect the fiber termination bay to the electronic equipment for optical to electronic conversion. 6 FL000 System Applications CATV Video Signal Path Through ADC Fiber Panel Products FiberGuide Fiber Cable Management System 3 Tx 4 FL000 VAM Panels 3 4 Equipment Rack or Cabinet Transmit Path Video signal via coaxial cable from video modulators. ADC Homeworx transmit panel converts coax electrical video signal to optical signal on fiber. Transmitter sends optical signal out. Optical signal sent to the splitters via a fiber optic patch cord or pigtail. Splitters installed in FL000 Value-Added Module (VAM). Splitter receives optical signal from transmitter and splits signal into several out paths (x, x3, etc.). Each out path serves one node. 3 Rx FL000 Frame Interbay Management Panel CATV VIDEO SIGNAL PATH Optical video signal from outputs of splitters routed to the FL000 termination connector module via fiber patch cord. Intrafacility fiber cable (IFC) clamped and connected to rear of fiber patch panel. IFC clamped to Fiber Entrance Cabinet (FEC). IFC fibers spliced to outside plant (OSP) fibers on FEC splice drawer. OSP cable clamped to FEC. 6 FL000 Fiber Termination Panel 7 End Guard 3 Fiber Entrance Cabinet Intrafacility Fiber Cable 8 Return Path 9 Outside Plant Cable Video signal from each node is jumpered from FL000 termination panel to VAM chassis. 6pak bulkhead on VAM connects fiber OSP patch cord to patch cord from upstream receiver. Fiber patch cord from VAM connects upstream signal to ADC Homeworx receive panel. The receive panel converts optical video signal to electrical and sends to network/ set-top control system via coaxial cable. 4

IDFs usually serve a single floor and are typically arranged vertically in a building riser area. Electronic hub equipment is normally installed within the IDF area because of the proximity to the backbone cabling. In many cases, the IDF is the last connection point prior to the end workstation connection. In large buildings, IDFs may serve multiple telephone closets (TCs) via tie cables. 5

33 Fiber Connector/Adapter Cleaning Kit Fiber connector/adapter cleaning kit The fiber connector/adapter cleaning kit contains all the items required to adequately clean fiber connectors and adapters. The performance of an optical fiber system is largely dependent on the fiber connector cleaning procedures followed prior to installation. It is suggested that all the connectors and adapters be cleaned before making any connections. This kit contains an instruction sheet, lint-free wipes, isopropyl alcohol, cotton swabs, lint-free pipe cleaners and oil-free compressed air. The kit cleans approximately 500 connectors and/or adapters. FPC-CLNKIT 3
