1 Hardware Announcement April 20, 2004 IBM 9910 UPSs for IBM iseries and pseries safeguard your equipment and data from power problems Overview To meet the changing power protection needs of IBM servers, IBM Global Services has selected new Uninterruptible Power Systems (UPSs) from Powerware. The new IBM 9910 UPS solution, compatible with the power requirements for RS/6000, IBM pseries, AS/400, and iseries servers, has passed IBM s rigorous testing procedures and is intended to provide a convenient, single source for purchase and protection of IBM servers. All 9910 UPSs include a premium warranty package that is designed to enhance the potential for a return on investment over other UPSs available on the market today. In addition, the IBM warranty: Extends coverage of the UPS (refer to the specific product warranty period) Provides remote problem determination and next-day exchange (if available) by the UPS manufacturer (when necessary) Offers a single point of contact through the IBM Call Center IBM offers the following Powerware products for iseries and pseries servers: PW (P93) (three-phase model) incorporates a high level of service, design, and performance to help keep iseries and pseries servers working virtually without interruption. PW (P95) (three-phase model) provides advanced, feature-rich power management for iseries and pseries servers. P93 includes a one-year ProActive Service Plan. With the ProActive Service Plan, you receive service above the standard warranty. Extended Battery Module (EBM) (#6635) provides extended runtime (autonomy) for P93. EBM (#6636) provides extended runtime (autonomy) for P95. True online double-conversion three-phase power protection. ConnectUPS X-Slot Web/simple network management protocol (SNMP)/xHub option provides realtime monitoring of power conditions with Secure Socket Layer (SSL). Powerware kva (P30) and 6 kva (P64) provide true online, double-conversion UPSs with a versatile design that allows the UPS to be rack-mounted or installed as a tower. 2 Description Powerware Uninterruptible Power Systems The Powerware 9330 Model 20 (P93) integrates advanced technology, software, and service capabilities into a single module capable of supporting critical servers, ISPs, telecommunications, or process control equipment. By incorporating DC Expert Plus Built-in Battery Monitoring and advanced communications, the P93 offers one of the highest levels of reliability for critical systems and one of the lowest overall cost of ownership for a double-conversion online UPS in the 20 kva range. The P93 includes a one-year ProActive Service Plan. With the ProActive Service Plan, you receive service above the standard warranty. Additional years of ProActive Service Plan can be ordered using feature numbers 7001 or To ensure all aspects of installation planning are taken into consideration, optional feature number 7005 can be ordered, which provides a site survey by an IBM installation planning representative. The Powerware 9305 Model 30 (P95) is designed to provide optimum protection with its double conversion online design, advanced communications capabilities, Advance Management (ABM) technology for doubled battery service life, and high reliability with Hot Sync parallel redundancy system. Specifically designed for use in server rooms or server farms for centralized power protection, the P95 offers the flexibility and some of the highest levels of power protection to critical IT equipment. The P95 includes a one-year ProActive Service Plan. With the ProActive Service Plan, you receive service above the standard warranty. The 9910-P30 (Powerware VA V ac single phase) UPS protects up to 2100 watts and the 9910-P64 (Powerware VA V ac single phase) UPS protects equipment up to 4200 watts. These true online, double-conversion UPSs feature ABM technology which doubles battery service life, load segments for schedule shutdowns (not available on P64) and extended runtimes, and a versatile design that allows the UPS to be mounted as a rack or a tower. Optional Extended Battery Modules (EBMs) extends battery runtimes, and the ConnectUPS Web/SNMP/xHub card adapter expands control and monitoring of UPS and network devices. To accommodate increased requests for rack UPS solutions for iseries models, the 9910 Model P33, previously announced in Hardware announcement , dated August 14, 2001, will be made available for iseries clients. Powerware offers the AS/400 Bundled X-Slot Relay Card (#2936) and a 25-foot (7.6 meters) AS/400 interface cable to provide a comprehensive solution for iseries rack clients. If Models P30, P64, and features 6640 and 6641 are not ordered with the iseries and pseries rack, the client will be responsible for the installation of external cables, UPS module, and battery module. Clients who request IBM service personnel to perform these activities are subject to a charge. Refer to the Machine installation section for installation service description. Two types of output power distribution connection outlets (receptacles) are available, feature numbers 9880 and The base P93 includes one feature number 9880 which contains two 60A, 3-phase, 4-wire IEC R9W connectors with appropriate circuit breakers and connectors. Each connector shall be on a maximum 50-foot cord. This feature number supports dual-redundant power cords of the base processor frame or CPU. The maximum quantity of feature number 9880 is one. Optional output power distribution connections are available with feature number Each feature number 9881 contains three 15 A to 30 A NEMA non or locking receptacle with appropriate circuit breakers and connectors (power cord). Each connector shall be on maximum 50-foot cord and wired into the Options Cabinet output distribution panel. The description of the Options Cabinet is as follows: Option Cabinet 20 kva capacity, single feed, 208/208, maintenance bypass, and 42-pole panel with output connection housing. Valid receptacle types are: NEMA; 5-15R2, 5-20R2, L5-15R, L5-20R, 30R, L5-30R, 6-15R, L6-15R, 6-20R, L6-20R; and, L6-30R. To use the Remote Notify capability of the P93, the provided serial port will be connected to a provided modem. The modem will require a client-supplied dedicated (analog) telephone line. There are two unused communications ports available for optional communications cards (#2933, #2934, or #2936). The optional feature number 2933 (ConnectUPS MultiServer Card) includes three server to UPS serial TTY interface cables DB9 to DB9 (6 ft/1.8 m length). Note: This feature number is used to serially communicate with two or three servers. The optional feature number 2934 (ConnectUPS Web/SNMP/xHub Card) includes one UPS to Web Card configuration cable RJ45 to DB9M (6 ft/1.8 m length). Feature 6636 (External Battery Module) The input power to the 6636 is DC and is provided by the P95. If installation of 6636 is concurrent to P95, installation of the DC cable is hardwired by a Powerware installation contractor at INSTALLATION. Feature number 6636 is a line-up-and-match cabinet connected to P95 cabinet. If installation of 6636 is non-concurrent or a MES, installation is the responsibility of the client. Communications cables One iseries (AS/400) to UPS interface cable (15 ft/5 m length) and one server to UPS serial TTY interface cable DB9 to DB9 (6 ft/2 m length) are included with the P95 for iseries and pseries orders. The optional feature number 2935 (ConnectUPS E (external) Web/SNMP adapter) includes one UPS to ConnectUPS Adapter configuration cable 9PinM (P95) to 25PinF (ConnectUPS) (6 ft/1.8 m length). Note: This feature number is required if using LPAR pseries. The optional feature number 2938 (ConnectUPS Environmental Monitoring Probe (EMP)) includes one CAT5 cable (6 ft/1.8 m length). The 9910-P30 also includes five (5) output power cable consisting of four IEC-320-C13 to C14 (6 ft/1.8 m length) and one IEC-320-C19 to C20 (14 ft/4.4 m length). These power cables are located in the Power Cord Kit carton, IBM feature number A maximum of one feature number 9830 is supported. When the 9910-P30 is employed in a tower configuration in NEMA-type countries, the P30 will include one NEMA-type PowerPass Distribution Module (PPDM) IBM feature number 6570, which contains the following output (receptacle) connections. Communications cables One server to UPS serial TTY interface cable DB9M to DB9F (6 ft/1.8 m length) is included with the P30 (contained in the P30 Accessory Kit carton) for all (iseries and pseries) orders. The P30 includes a single serial port (DB9) contained on a removable ConnectUPS X-Slot interface card. Optional communications features (#2933, #2934, and #2936) will replace this single port serial card. A maximum of one feature number 2933, or 2934, or 2936 is supported. The optional feature number 2933 (ConnectUPS MultiServer Card) includes three server UPS serial TTY interface cables DB9 to DB9 (6 ft/1.8 m length). Min: 0, Max: 1 per P30.
