The IBM System Storage SAN Volume Controller is designed to deliver the benefits of storage virtualization and now is available in a new offering priced to meet the needs of small and medium businesses and midsize companies. Overview IBM System Storage SAN Volume Controller V4.3.1 is now available with pricing based upon a new charge unit per the number of physical disk drives managed by the SAN Volume Controller (SVC). This offering has a new product ID (5639-VW1), with new associated Software Maintenance product IDs, new AAS orderable features, and new Passport Advantage part numbers. The current product per-terabyte pricing structure, available as 5639-VC4, will remain available for ordering. IBM System Storage SAN Volume Controller Entry Edition Software V4 (5639-VW1) is supported only on the new IBM A4 SAN Volume Controller Storage Engine. If your storage configuration to be managed by the SAN Volume Controller is made up of 60 or fewer physical disk drives, you can order SAN Volume Controller Entry Edition (5639-VW1) software using these new product features or Passport Advantage part numbers. This new feature and pricing structure is described further in the Ordering information section. The new 5639-VW1 features or part numbers are available for new orders. For customers who purchase 5639-VW1, and who later need to increase their managed storage to greater than 60 drives, IBM offers a conversion path that provides the ability to convert 5639-VW1 Virtualization, FlashCopy, and Metro/Global authorizations to the appropriate 5639-VC4 (per-terabyte) licenses. There is no reverse conversion path from 5639-VC4 to 5639-VW1. Refer to the and Description sections. Existing SVC V4.3 functions and additional functions, included in SVC V4.3.1, are generally available to customers ordering either 5639-VC4 or the 5639-VW1. 2 SVC interoperability now provides new storage support including the IBM XIV Storage System, IBM System Storage DS5000, HP StorageWorks XP24000/XP20000, and Hitachi Universal Storage Platform. Interoperability is also available for IBM i operating system 6.1 through VIOS, and IBM z/vse tm. For all the specific models and host environments supported, visit SVC V4.3.1 software is now available at initial order with two, four, and five year software maintenance registration agreements. These three new maintenance options can be used only for initial order placement. Software maintenance renewal options continue to be offered for one or three years. Description IBM System Storage SAN Volume Controller Entry Edition V4 supports all of the functions and interoperability announced to date for SAN Volume Controller Software V4. The new SAN Volume Controller (SVC) Entry Edition product ID makes available new associated AAS Software Maintenance PIDs and orderable features, new Passport Advantage part numbers, and revised terms and conditions, based upon a new per-disk-drive charge unit, for storage configurations up to 60 disk drives. This new per-disk-drive price offering does not replace the current SAN Volume Controller 5639-VC4 software with the per-terabyte charge unit. This new feature and pricing structure is described in the Ordering information section of this announcement. Entry Edition FlashCopy and Metro/Global functions are ordered in quantities that equal the number of disk storage drives to be managed by SVC Entry Edition software, up to 60 drives. The quantity of drives ordered for these functions must match the Base Virtualization drive quantity ordered. When adding more drives to an existing cluster licensed with Entry Edition (5639-VW1), additional authorizations for Base Virtualization and for any other licensed functions (such as FlashCopy) must be ordered, so that license authorizations for all functions in use remain matched with the drive quantity being managed by SVC. Metro/Global configurations with target volumes on a separate cluster must have corresponding authorizations for Metro/Global on the target cluster. The clusters in the Metro/Global relationship may be running any combination of the 5639-VW1 (per-diskdrive) and the 5639-VC4 (per-terabyte) Metro/Global authorizations at the source and target clusters, and the size or quantity of those licenses do not necessarily need to match. For example, you may remotely copy volumes from a 5639-VW1 cluster with 60 drives that is Metro/ Global authorized to an authorized cluster licensed for 40 drives, or you may remotely IBM is a registered trademark of International Business Machines Corporation 2

3 copy them to an authorized cluster that has Metro/Global authorizations available for the corresponding capacity of those volumes. Added interoperability IBM SAN Volume Controller now supports many more customer heterogeneous data center environments with the addition of interoperability support for: IBM i operating system 6.1 (i5/os V6R1) via IBM PowerVM tm Virtual I/O Server (VIOS) and 2.1 IBM z/vse V4.2 IBM PowerVM VIOS attachment with a Linux client Microsoft Hyper-V with Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2003 IBM System Storage TS7650G ProtecTIER De-duplication Gateway IBM XIV Storage System IBM System Storage DS5000 Hewlett-Packard StorageWorks XP24000/XP20000 Hewlett-Packard StorageWorks 4400 Enterprise Virtual Array Hitachi Universal Storage Platform V and VM SVC Console The System Storage Productivity Center, which includes the SVC Console software, continues to be supported on Microsoft Windows IBM will discontinue support of the SVC Console software on Microsoft Windows 2000 after February 20, Space-efficient VDisks as Remote Targets SAN Volume Controller Software V4.3.1 enhances the space-efficient VDisk function by maintaining the target VDisk as space-efficient when establishing a Metro or Global relationship. Unallocated space is compressed on the inter-cluster link, and does not cause space to be allocated at the target. Network Time Protocol (NTP) The SAN Volume Controller Software V4.3.1 (including Entry Edition) now supports the Network Time Protocol (NTP). NTP is a protocol designed to synchronize the clocks of computers over a network. Customers now can synchronize the SAN Volume Controller cluster time with a NTP server on the network. Conversion from 5639-VW1 to 5639-VC4 software licenses For customers who purchase the SAN Volume Controller Entry Edition (5639-VW1), and who later need to increase their managed storage to greater than the maximum number of managed drives allowed by the 5639-VW1 license, IBM offers a conversion path to the SVC 5639-VC4 (per-terabyte charge unit) software. When converting a SAN Volume Controller Entry Edition 5639-VW1 cluster with licenses that may include Base Virtualization, FlashCopy, and Metro/Global, all the authorizations pertaining to that cluster must be converted to the appropriate 5639-VC4 (per-terabyte) licenses. Conversion is a three stage process. First, the existing license for 5639-VW1 must be upgraded to the maximum supported drives (that is, 60 drives) for Base Virtualization, and also FlashCopy and Metro/Global if those functions are licensed. Next, the SVC license entitlement will be moved from SVC Entry Edition (5639-VW1) to a predetermined capacity amount in 5639-VC4 per TB pricing. For Base Virtualization, the entitlement is 12 TB; for FlashCopy and Metro/Global (if licensed), the entitlements are 3 TB and 4 TB respectively. Finally, the new 5639-VC4 license may be upgraded further to meet the customer's requirements. IBM is a registered trademark of International Business Machines Corporation 3

4 For example, a customer has SVC Entry Edition (5639-VW1) licensed for 48 drives of Base Virtualization and FlashCopy. They want to expand their overall SVC capacity to 40 TB of Base Virtualization and 15 TB of FlashCopy. First, the customer would purchase quantity 12 of the SVC Entry Edition Base Virtualization license and quantity 12 of the SVC Entry Edition FlashCopy license to increase both to the maximum 60 drives, which is the conversion point. The conversion to SVC per-terabyte licensing would entitle the customer to 12 TB of Base Virtualization capacity and 3 TB of FlashCopy capacity. Finally, the customer would purchase the additional 28 TB of capacity starting with terabyte number 13 in tier 2 and the additional 12 TB of capacity starting at terabyte number 4 in tier 1. There is no reverse path to convert from 5639-VC4 to 5639-VW1. A new product purchase is necessary. The System Storage SAN Volume Controller manages the Logical Unit Numbers (LUNs) of the attached disk subsystem. When calculating price based on the per-disk drive metric, count the drives associated with the LUNs managed by SVC. The count should contain all drives managed by SVC including LUNs that are striped across multiple disk drives such as in RAID configurations. Backup disk drives that are not actively running I/O operations until another disk drive fails (frequently referred to as "hot spares") need not be included in the disk drive count. Conversion from 5639-VW1 to 5639-VC4 software licenses For customers who purchase the SAN Volume Controller Entry Edition (5639-VW1), and who later need to increase their managed storage to greater than the maximum number of managed drives allowed by the 5639-VW1 license, IBM offers a conversion path to the SVC 5639-VC4 (per-terabyte charge unit) software. When converting a SAN Volume Controller Entry Edition 5639-VW1 cluster with licenses that may include Base Virtualization, FlashCopy, and Metro/Global, all the authorizations pertaining to that cluster must be converted to the appropriate 5639-VC4 (per-terabyte) license(s). Conversion is a three stage process. First, the existing license for 5639-VW1 must be upgraded to the maximum supported drives (that is, 60 drives) for Base Virtualization, and also FlashCopy and Metro/Global if those functions are licensed. Next, the SVC license entitlement will be moved from SVC Entry Edition (5639-VW1) to a predetermined capacity amount in 5639-VC4 per-terabyte pricing. For Base Virtualization, the entitlement is 12 TB; for FlashCopy and Metro/Global (if licensed), the entitlements are 3 TB and 4 TB respectively. Finally, the new 5639-VC4 license may be upgraded further to meet the customer's requirements. For example, a customer has SVC Entry Edition (5639-VW1) licensed for 48 drives with Base Virtualization and FlashCopy. They want to expand their overall SVC capacity to 40 TB of Base Virtualization and 15 TB of FlashCopy. First, the customer would purchase quantity 12 of the SVC Entry Edition Base Virtualization license and quantity 12 of the SVC Entry Edition FlashCopy license to increase both to the maximum 60 drives, which is IBM is a registered trademark of International Business Machines Corporation 12

Finally, the customer would purchase the additional 28 TB of capacity starting with terabyte number 13 in tier 2 and the additional 12 TB of capacity starting at terabyte number 4 in tier 1. There is no reverse path to convert from 5639-VC4 to 5639-VW1.
