5 l-l SECTION 1 EQUIPMENT FAMILIARIZATION DESCRIPTION The Nordson 2000 Hose/Gun Temperature Controller is a standalone unit that allows Series 2000-style hoses and RTD-controlled guns to be used on other applicators. Thermostatically-controlled guns that have been retrofitted with RTD Gun Control Kit (P/N ) can also be used with this unit. This includes Nordson's H20 and H200 lines of applicator guns. The 2000 Temperature Controller provides electrical connections and temperalture controls for up to four (4) hoses and/or guns. A lo-ampere "Auxiliary" channel for user-supplied equipment (such as an inline heated hose filter) is also provided. The 2000 Temperature Controller is factory-prepared for a 2-hose/2-gun configuration. In most situations, where the guns are RTD-controlled and are plugged into the hoses, the hose electrical connections are plugged into channels 1 and 2 on the 2000 Temperature Controller box. Each plug contains a pair of control channels. Plug one controls Hose (Z) Channel One and Gun ( ) Channel One. Plug two controls Hose (Z) Channel Two and Gun ( ) Channel Two. In order to configure four (4) hoses to the 2000 Temperature Controller, use two (2) splitter cords (P/N ). In order to configure four (4) guns, use two (2) splitter cords (P/N ). The RTD Temperature Control Kit and Splitter Cord Kits must be ordered separately. See Section 3 (Illustrated Parts List) of this publication for a detailed list and exact location of unit components. HOSE AND GUN TEMPERATURE CONTROLS The 2000 Temperature Controller is equipped with the same solid-state temperature control relay found in Nordson's Series 2000 applicator. An On/Off switch activates the unit. The light to the right of this switch indi-cates whether input power to the unit is on or off. (S)46.10mIssued 4/87@Nordson Corporation 1987

6 l-2 HOSE AND GUN TEMPERATURE CONTROLS (Continued) Each of the four heating channels allows for independent temperature control of a gun or hose via a dial potentiometer. The auxiliary channel is also controlled by a potentiometer. Operating range of each channel is 220 to 400'F (loso to 205OC). Directly above each of the five (5) potentiometers are pairs of LEDs (light emitting diodes). The yellow LED glows continuously until setpoint temperature is reached and then blinks as temperature is maintained. The red LED acts as a warning indicator. It glows when either: A gun or hose RTD is open or shorted. Setpoint temperature has been exceeded (the red LED ON temperature ranges from 425OF (218OC) to 475OF (246OC). In either case, a solid-state time delay is activated, giving the equipment operator approximately 90 seconds to locate and correct the fault. At that point, the 2000 Hose/Gun Temperature Controller circuit breaker is tripped, removing power from all channels. Fault location and correction procedures can be found in your gun and hose operations manual. The circuit breaker may be reset immediately simply by pressing the reset button. Each time the reset button is pressed, an additional 90 seconds of time is provided for fault location and correction before the circuit breaker again trips. The circuit breaker may be reset repeatedly until the fault has been corrected or until at least one of the channels reaches 450 F (23OOC). The circuit breaker cannot be reset until the maximum sensed temperature drops below 450'F (230c'C). 9 2-l SECTION 2 INSTALLATION INTRODUCTION This section includes information on: Unpacking. Inspection. Installation, setup and operating instructions for all hose/gun configurations. UNPACKING No special instructions are necessary to unpack the 2000 Hose/Gun Temperature Controller. Normal care should be exercised not to damage the equipment during unpacking. Not included with the 2000 Hose/Temperature Controller but recommended is Spare Parts Kit (P/N ). In it are the following items: Part No. Description No. Shipped Temperature Controller, 2 Hose SC Gun Relay, Solid State, 25 amp Light, Indicator Schematic/Wiring Diagram, INSPECTION After unpacking is completed: 1. 10 2-2 SAFETY PRECAUTION A WARNING: The 2000 Hose/Temperature Controller contains energized electrical components with 5 potentials that could be fatal. Disconnect and lock out input electrical power before working on this unit. Only qualified personnel should operate this equipment. INSTALLATION, SETUP 1. Mount the 2000 Ho.se/Gun Temperature Controller AND OPERATION either vertically Ior horizontally using the holes provided in the redar panel of the unit. (See "Dimensions" on paage 2-3 of this manual.) NOTE: The unit should be located away from extremes of temperature and vibration, and where hose and gun electrical connections and temperature adjustments can be made easily Route a 230 VAC input power line to the unit. Connect lead Ll to station Ll of the terminal block and lead L2 to station L2 of the terminal block. Connect the ground lead to the ground stud of the unit. The ground stud is labeled " ". (See schematic/wiring diagram at rear of this manual.) NOTE: Do NOT apply electrical power to the 2000 Hose/Gun Temperature Controller at this time. 3. Complete hose hydraulic connections as described in your applicator manual. 4. If using thermostatically-controlled guns, complete installation of the RTD Temperature Control Kit(s). 5. Plug the gun electrical connector into the receptacle on the end of the hose. 6a. If using one hose/gun, plug the hose into the socket designated "1" on the side of the Controller. 6b. If using two hoses/guns, plug the hoses into the sockets designated "1" and "2" on the side of the Controller. (S)46.10mIssued 4/87mONordson Corporation 1987

11 2-3/4 INSTALLATION, SETUP AND OPERATION (Continued) 6c. If using some combination other than two sets of hoses/guns, complete installation of the required Cord Splitter Kit(s). See splitter cord designation at rear of this manual. Then plug each splitter cord into the sockets designated "1" and "2" on the side of the Controller. NOTE: Be sure the Resistor Module Assembly (P/N ) is installed in the Auxiliary channel plug when the Auxiliary channel is not being used. If this channel is unused and the Resistor Module Assembly is removed, the red fault indicator for the auxiliary power controller will light. 7. Prepare the applicator for operation as described in the applicator manual. 8. Set all temperature controls to the recommended settings for the adhesive being applied. 9. Switch input electrical power from the external power supply to On. 10. Switch the applicator and 2000 Hose/Gun Temperature Controller electrical power to On. 11. PARTS LIST Study the illustration to find the specific part you want to identify. Note the item number that accompanies it. 2. Locate the item number of the part in the Item Number column. 4. The next three columns give the part number, the description of the part and the quantity of the part required in the assembly illustrated.. The Part Number column contains one of three possible designations: a six-digit part number or a hyphen (-). If the part number appears in this column, the part is salable and can be ordered with the part number. A hyphen in this column means that the part in question is nonsalable and cannot be ordered.
