8 AMI Communications Requirements The communications network should be capable of providing services on a utilities private communications network and on a public network service provider. The communications network should be capable of providing data in scheduled and near real-time access. The network should be transparent (unrestrictive), which allows CPS Energy maximum flexibility in its choice of software to implement with enhanced remote access features.

10 Meter Data Management The meter data management system essentially acts as a buffer between users of the data and the collection of the data. This allows utilities to use multiple systems without burdening applications with the specifics of how data is collected or how commands are dispatched and, similarly, allows different applications to view the same data in different ways.
