9 A drill is a common tool for emergency managers to test their readiness for various types of hazards. Operational exercises in the field, whether full-scale or targeted Tabletops with decision makers (commissioners) or supporting players (planners, administrators, logisticians, etc.) Functional drills testing a specific aspect such as the layout of a point of distribution (POD)

14 Data Drills are a specialized subset of drills specifically testing the ability to identify data sets needed for emergency response and the protocols and technical mechanisms for sharing such data. Do not supersede operational drills. Have a targeted scenario / use case. Can be highly technical in testing database integration or particular data-sharing applications

16 Data Drill Steps & Tasks Initial interagency data call NYCEM convenes initial conference call with participants. NYCEM details scenario and identifies neighborhood. NYCEM uploads impacted area boundaries to CitrixShareFile. Participants describe actions their agency will be pursuing. Participants detail data points they will compile from existing data sets. Participants detail data points their agency will capture from field reporting and other sources. NYCEM asks selected agencies to pull requested data from their systems, create metadata, and upload files to CitrixShareFile Data Upload and Assessment MODA assesses uploaded data. MODA transforms data for ready integration with other data. NYCEM Planning Section determines what reporting metrics are needed. 1st Deputy Mayor s Office signs off on reporting metrics. NYCEM provides MODA with metrics needed. Analysis MODA produces integrated data set, metrics, and diagnostic report. MODA posts integrated data set, metrics, and diagnostic report to CitrixShareFile. NYCEM maps received data. NYCEM posts maps to CitrixShareFile. Final Convening Participants convene at NYCEM. Participants discuss on-going data collection efforts for the scenario. Participants report on ease of uploading and downloading data from CitrixShareFile. Participants comment on the form and effectiveness of the integrated data set. Participants comment on the posted maps. 1st Deputy Mayor s Office assesses reporting metrics provided by MODA.
