1 5 IT Solutions CSIR-NISCAIR s scientific information dissemination and science communication activities are actively supported by a robust and modern IT infrastructure. With science communication and outreach activities relying heavily on modern ICT, services like Online Access of NISCAIR s Primary Journals (NOPR) & Popular Science Magazines, Online Publishing Software (OJS), Website and Blog, and a state-of-the-art Data Centre have gained paramount importance. During the period some of the major activities initiated are as follows: Android Mobile App on Google Play Store The NISCAIR Mobile App provides information about the publications of NISCAIR, training courses, and services rendered by NISCAIR like Print and Production, Graphic Designing, Foreign Language Translation, ISSN, Bibliometric and Scientometric Services, etc. The App was launched on 23 January 2018 by Prof. K.K. The purchase order included installation of 17 indoor dome cameras, 14 outdoor bullet cameras, 3 PTZ cameras & 2 Network Video Recorders (NVR) for both campuses of NISCAIR. CSIR-CRRI Web Portal was hosted in the CSIRNISCAIR Data Centre and made live from March An automated backup policy has been configured and the performance of the website is monitored regularly. CSIR-HQrs: Hosting of Accounting Software for F&A of CSIR HQrs & Labs in NISCAIR Data Centre CCTV Installation for Surveillance of NISCAIR Campuses CSIR-NISCAIR Data Centre hosted the Accounting Software for CSIR Hqrs. and its Laboratories. An automated backup policy was configured to take the daily backup of the CSIR-HQ Accounting Application Database. Both locations of NISCAIR have been secured by installing security surveillance system using 36

3 CSIR-HQrs: Infrastructure Provisioning for EMR web Portal in NISCAIR Data Centre The Institute s Data Centre hosted the EMR Web Portal for payment of all JRF/SRF/RA, etc. online to meet the provision of DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) Scheme of Govt. of India. CSIR-NISCAIR: Hosting of Software for Online Receipt of Application for the Recruitment of Group IV Positions CSIR-NISCAIR advertised for recruitment of various positions in Group IV. The inhouse developed software for receiving of applications online was deployed. The application was hosted from 2 September 2017 to 1 October Hosting of MAPA Server in Data Centre Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Abstracts (MAPA) is a bimonthly abstracting journal covering global current literature on all aspects of medicinal, aromatic and allied plants, including lower plants. The MAPA portal was running from NISCAIR, SV Marg and was facing certain issues due to internet disconnection, power failure, old and obsolete server, etc. It has now been migrated to the NISCAIR Data Centre. for CSIR-UGC JRF/NET Exam for which the NISCAIR Data Centre has provided Server for the purpose of storage of data of the online application system with a daily backup of the data. The solution includes Linux Web servers with CentOS release 6.7 along with MySql database. 800GB storage space was provided on SAN which eliminates the fear of data loss in case of physical server failure. Regular backup policies have been deployed and a secure VPN connection provided to CSIR HRDG Exam Unit so that the communication is secure and safe. Installation of LED Display Board for Wide Publicity of Programmes & Events Hosted by NISCAIR An outdoor LED display panel was installed at the main entrance of the CSIR-NISCAIR campus for wide publication of various programmes and events hosted by CSIR-NISCAIR. The client unit is placed at the Main Entrance and the server software was installed in the IT Division. CSIR Exam Unit: Hosting of Archival of CSIR-UGC JRF/NET Exam Data of the Online Application System The CSIR HRDG Exam Unit has developed new software for online application form 37

4 lh,lvkbzvkj&fulds;j okf"kzd fjiksvz 2017&18 Full HD Video Conferancing Facility with 5+1 sites (POLYCOM REAL PRESENCE GROUP 500) Management of Video Conferencing Unit and all the VC s taking place from time to time in single or multiple sites, like, CSIR Theme Meetings, NKRC Meetings, etc. IT Infrastructure Development and Maintenance NISCAIR has LAN infrastructure of 300 nodes at Pusa location and 360 nodes at SV Marg with 1 Gbps (1:1) Leased Line Internet Connectivity. Following additions were made during the period: 1. Procurement of Mantra AEBAS Machines 2. Renewal of Trend Micro Worry-Free Business Security Edition 3. Renewal of AMC of UPS NISCAIR Online Periodicals Repository (NOPR) NISCAIR Online Periodicals Repository (NOPR) hosts research journals, popular science magazines & Natural Products Repository at Digitisation of the following 11 journals has been completed from Volume 1 Issue 1 and these are available for online & open access: 1. Online Publishing System for Automation of Editorial Process Online NISCAIR (OP) has been implemented for automation of editorial process for NISCAIR research journals. It is based on open source publishing software Open Journal Systems (OJS) which has been customised as per NISCAIR requirement. This system is available at presently for the following research journals published by CSIR-NISCAIR: 1. Annals of Library and Information Studies (ALIS) 2. Information about NISCAIR s 18 research journals, three abstracting journals, three popular science magazines, popular science books & newsletters are available on the website. The news & events, training programmes, tenders, notifications, special issues of journals announcements are posted on the website. Hindi website has been developed using Unicode fonts for proper display of Hindi fonts. Bilingual office forms, internal orders/ circulars/notifications are regularly hosted on intranet website (intranet.niscair.res.in). 41
