2 The auxiliary machine tool sector one The Spanish accessories, components and cutting tools sector for machine tools offers a wide range of products that, when incorporated into a machine tool, are used in mechanized processes in different industrial sectors, such as automotive, aeronautical, renewable energy, iron and steel industry, electronics, railroad, medical-surgical industry, etc. The main sub-sectors that comprise the sector are: Accessories for machine tools: fixtures and clamp elements, tool holders, parts holders and other accessories. Machine tool components and equipment: transmission elements, machine components, gears, etc. Cutting and shaping tools. Spanish sector overview two The range of products in the Spanish sector has been very dynamic in recent years, although it has not been immune to the crisis, the data of 2010 reflects a recovery of sales with regards to 2009 (10%) and of employment (3 %). The sector in Spain does not only manufacture accessories, components and tools for working metal, but also carries out technological development, particularly in the area of mechanized engineering. Efforts made in recent years in the area of research, design and innovation have also given the made in Spain label greater recognition around the world. The over 60 companies that make up this industry have a very significant concentration in the Basque Country, which plays host to 73% of the business community, and especially in the province of Guipuzcoa, where nearly half of the sector s companies reside. 3 Innovation and development Spanish companies in the sector spend a large portion of their resources on R&D + innovation. Spanish manufacturers in the sector have looked for ways to distinguish their products, positioning themselves in recent years as providers of solutions tailored to the needs of the client, based on their acquired know-how (the sector dates back to the late 19th Century), the contributions and support of technology centers, investments in innovation and ongoing training. One of the keys to the success of the sector has been the improvement to the mechanized engineering processes. The most representative companies are: For accessories: Accesorios CNC-H, EVEC, Fresmak, Integi, Ertz, Lan-bat and Llambrich in the area of accessories. For components: Goizper, Korta, Niasa, Shuton, Sidepalsa and Xubi in components. For tools: FMD, Mail, Izar, NECO and Zubiola in tools. Competitiveness factors and trends Flexibility in services and products and sector diversification are the strong points of the sector. The knowledge acquired through the accumulation of experience has also led today to mechanization, attachment and transmission solutions based on innovation, personalization and customer orientation. To achieve that, the sector has a well-trained human team that knows the product, with latest-generation equipment and the support of the technology centers. Inter-business collaboration is essential in order to succeed in the markets and be able to maintain optimum size and flexibility. This sector focuses particularly on seeking synergies and collaboration between companies, both domestic and international.
