7 District Reports July 2015 Activity Report from Hemet -Diamond Valley ARES Group Over the last few months the leadership of Hemet-San Jacinto RACES, and Hemet- Diamond Valley ARES have together concluded that the individual resources of these separate groups are inadequate to meet the Hemet area communities needs in the event of a large-scale emergency or disaster. After multiple meetings, much discussion and deliberation, a consensus was reached that the Hemet communities emergency preparedness needs could best be met by a joint, collaborative Emergency Communications Plan combining the resources of Hemet-San Jacinto RACES and Hemet- Diamond Valley ARES. It was also decided that future training events in the areas of messaging and emergency communications will be joint Hemet-San Jacinto RACES / Hemet- Diamond Valley ARES collaborative trainings to better insure standardization of emergency operating procedures and continuity. In addition, future joint drills and practices will also be planned and practiced. In July, as a result of these discussions, a comprehensive joint, collaborative ARES/ RACES Emergency Plan was created, the members of both groups adopted it and the plan has been presented to the City of Hemet Fire Chief and Emergency Planning staff for consideration and incorporation into the City of Hemet Emergency Operations Plan At the same time the Hemet-Diamond Valley ARES group has incorporated ongoing messaging and NBEMS practice activities into its weekly ARES net. Monthly, on a rotating schedule, messaging and NBEMS practices are now being conducted after the weekly member check-ins. These activities also involve the use of both the Lee DeForest Amateur Radio Club and the Hemet RACES repeater, plus switching back and forth between the identified Hemet ARES TAC simplex frequencies. Over the last few months the monthly Hemet-Diamond Valley ARES meetings have also included presentations on understanding how repeaters work and emergency back up power systems (solar, wind, battery, gas generator). Submitted by Bud Piraino, N6SDS, EC Hemet/Diamond Valley ARES Page 7

HOA Talks Preparedness The Sunnymead Ranch Lake homeowners Association ask Glen, KA6GMA and Alan, KB6DMZ to meet with their community Awareness and Preparation Response Team to explore possibilities of setting up communications for emergencies. Topics of discussion included a number of areas they could develop in an effort to to better serve the communication needs for their community. The association has 2600 homes it serves. The association might consider the possibly of allowing some type of low profile antennas in the future. They also will make an effort find existing amateurs in their association, as well as get training for new amateurs.
