7 Timing is Everything Draw slow and at an even pace 2x as long as the scene's narration is a good start Practice, practice, practice Use circles and arrows to highlight/emphasize at the appropriate points in the narration Later use your editing software to speed up the video and sync with the narration Audio: 30s Video: 60s 11 Recording on a Real Whiteboard Secure the tripod to the desk/floor with tape or clamps Mark off the recording region with marker or tape No larger than your arm can reach Or duck under the camera to draw from both sides Practice keeping your head out of the recording May have to compensate to avoid drawing on a slant Eraser makes a build-in transition effect Natural lighting varies with the time of day 12 Page 6

9 My Review of Conojo A lot of functionality and very little risk for $3 Easy to switch colors/styles while recording Not as sensitive as a real whiteboard or drawing tablet Drawing text or subtle details takes practice Create a new project for each scene Use the Movie tab to upload the entire video and not just the final image Output not compatible with older versions of imovie A bit buggy 15 Video Editing: What to Look For Intuitive video and audio timeline editors Support for your camera or tablet's output format Ability to speed up/down tracks Ability to split tracks and insert still frames Audio recording to simplify your workflow Captions as an alternative to drawing text 16 Page 8

12 Summary Effective elearning does not have to be expensive or professionally produced. With some practice, narrated whiteboard drawings are a relatively easy and inexpensive option for teaching a 5-10 minute concept. Tablet recordings tend to be easier to make and look cleaner but traditional camera recordings aren't any less effective.
