3 System Overview Sendroid is a powerful 2-Way SMS & MMS Messaging Script for SMS Marketers, Bulk SMS resellers and Bulk SMS Portals. Sendroid provides complete Customers/Resellers Management tools, Bulk SMS, Unicode & MMS Messaging tools, 2-Way SMS messaging tools, Phonebook & Contacts Management tools, Billing & Invoicing tools, Customer Support tools, Portal Accounting, SMS Routing Tools, SMS Marketing tools and much more. Sendroid can integrate with any SMS gateway provider that supports HTTP, HTTPS or SMPP connection. It is fully Stand-alone and requires no Third-Party application to run the script. 12 Pre-Installation Checks: Before you proceed with installing Sendroid, ensure that you have a working PHP server with Apache and MySQL, and that your server meets the minimum system requirements, "curl" & "allow_url_fopen" are enabled and you have a working internet connection (if you choose to install Sendroid on a local network). Getting Sendroid on your Server: Visit to purchase and download the latest version of Sendroid at (if you haven t already done that). The download is a ZIP file containing Sendroid main files and documentation. Upload and Extract all files within the Sendroid Zip file to a desired directory on your server Setting up Fresh Database for your New Sendroid Installation: Sendroid requires a MySQL Database to run. A fresh database is recommended for a fresh installation. If you are upgrading from Fome SMS Portal Advanced to Sendroid, your existing Fome SMS Portal Advanced database connection details. Use your phpmyadmin tool, cpanel mysql Database Wizard or any other database tool to create a new database and user with full access privileges on the newly created database. Take note of your database name, username and password. 12 P age

13 Installing Sendroid: Step 1. Using your web browser, navigate to the Sendroid directory on your server (e.g. Hint! It is highly recommended that you change your supper admin login password as soon as you login to the system, as recovering this PASSWORD may not be so simple. Step 2. Choose your installation type (Fresh Installation or Upgrade), read through the Software License Agreement, check the Accept box and click on Proceed to continue. 13 P age

14 Step 3. Enter your database connection details and click Proceed to continue. Sendroid will attempt to connect to your database, setup its database structure and perform all other installation tasks. Upon successful installation, you will be presented with a screen containing lots of vital information regarding your new Sendroid installation, including the link to your Admin Portal and most importantly your auto-generated Supper Admin User login detail. Step 4. Take note of the Post-Installation information presented to you then click Finish to launch Sendroid. Validating you License/Purchase Code: If your copy of Sendroid requires license key or purchase code, you will be redirected to the product validation page to validate your key before you can start using Sendroid. Please ensure that you have your license key and a working internet connection before you proceed. On the product validation page, enter your product key. If you have purchased your copy of Sendroid from an app store, use the Redeem my License link to 14 P age

15 validate your purchase and obtain a license key. Upon successful license validation, you will be redirected to Sendroid admin login page. Initial Setup Accessing Your SMS Administration Panel The Sendroid administration panel provides access to all customer management and administration features of the application. You can access the admin section by navigation to [sendroid_directory]/administrator (eg. You will need to provide the Admin login details that was given to your during installation to access your admin panel on your first login. It is recommended that you change your login password to something you can easily remember. 15 P age

16 Setting-up Cron Job Sendroid requires that Cron Job execute the following command Once every minute; [Full_Path_to_sendroid]\CroneJob.php. This is needed for background processing of sent messages and other automation features of this application to function correctly, including processing of scheduled and queued messages. Sendroid requires that Cron Job execute the following command once every day; [Full_Path_to_sendroid]\BirthdaySender.php. This is needed for automated Birthday Messages/Reminder feature. You can set Cron job by logging into your hosting cpanel. (Consult your hosting provider for instructions on accessing the Cron job feature.). General Settings After installing Sendroid, your first task should be to customize the appearance and branding of your portal. This is done from the General Settings menu. To complete the general settings, go to System Tools > General Settings From the General Settings page, you will be able to customize the appearance of the portal, setup some basic defaults, and change your logo, business information and others. 16 P age

17 Remember to click the Save Changes button to apply your new settings. Portal Settings The portal is an essential part of the Sendroid Application and as such should be filled correctly, Apply Tax/Apply Vat The apply Tax/Apply Vat helps user to automatically include the V.A.T/Tax on the every sales it helps to resolve issues of recurring application of V.A.T/ Tax of sales on every sale made it automatically Generate Tax/Vat on that customers Invoice. It is very important to set up Tax/Vat during setup. Phone/ Verification Sendroid phone and verification should be enable on the portal settings to enable verification of users to avoid the usage of unverifiable Phone numbers/ Address. 18 Setting up Currencies Sendroid supports multi-currency. It can handle payments in any defined currency. It is very important to setup default currency and configure your exchange rates before your first sale. Changing default currency when you have active orders is not recommended as it may lead to unexpected results. Currencies are managed by navigating to System Tools > Currency Settings Sendroid default currency is Naira, but it can be changed to any other currency You can modify existing currencies by clicking on the Edit button next to the desired currency or create new ones by clicking the Add New Currency button. Note! You will not be able to delete a currency currently being used as the default currency or being used by a system Payment Gateway (e.g.) Configure Payment Gateways Payment gateways are essential part of your business. Clients will not be able to carry-out transaction on your portal if you have not configured payment gateways properly. You can manage payment gateways at System Tools > Payment Gateways Settings. The current version of Sendroid comes integrated with these payment gateways: - Custom Gateway (For bank transfers, Cash, etc.) - PayPal - Stripe 18 P age

19 - 2Checkout - Quickteller - PayStack - GTPay - WebPay - VoguePay You have the option to enable or disable any payment gateway. Only enabled gateways will be presented to customers during purchase. Editing an Online Payment Gateway Details In order to start using any of the integrated online payment gateways, you need to provide your merchant or user account details for the desired gateway. Click on the Edit button next to the desired payment gateway, enter the required details such as Display Name, username, merchant ID, etc. Click the Save button to apply your changes. (Please note that some of these details need to be obtained from the gateway provider s website.) Setting-up Custom Payment Gateway Custom payment gateway is a way to provide your clients custom information on how they can send you money. 19 P age

20 This is useful if none of the provided payment gateways suits your needs. To create a custom payment gateway, simply click on the "Add New" button on the Payment Gateway page and enter the details of your new custom gateway. You will need to paste full HTML code in the "Payment Notice/Instruction" box. This code will be displayed when client chooses to pay for invoice with your Custom payment gateway. Message Gateway Setting One of the features that set Sendroid apart from other Bulk SMS scripts is its easy of setting and switching between Gateways for handling SMS, MMS, Unicode and Incoming messages. Sendroid is compatible with any gateway that supports SMPP, HTTP or HTTPS API access, with known success word. You need to get your HTTP API from your SMS provider or signup and use any of the pre-installed gateways if you don t have a provider yet. (SMSKit, Twilio, Infobip or Nexmo). Go to System Tools > SMS Gateway Settings to create, manage or setup Gateways for handling SMS, MMS, Unicode and Incoming messages. To use any of the pre-installed gateways, click the edit button next to the desired gateway to open the editor. 20 P age

21 Replace the user-specific parameters on the API URL field such as api_key, sid, auth_token, username, password, secrete, etc., depending on selected gateway. (Please note that you may not be allowed to modify the value of some fields for the preinstalled gateways.) Enter your authentication string if required (eg. Username: Password, depending on your provider s API requirements.). Make other changes as required then save your changes. See the section below for detailed definition of API fields. Creating a New Gateway To add new gateway, click on the "Add New Gateway" button, then enter you gateway APIs and other required details as follows; Field Description Required Gateway Name API to Send SMS This is a name you will use to identify the SMS gateway. This is the API provided by your gateway for sending Normal (Plain Text) SMS. You need to get this from your SMS providers. Yes Yes API to Send Unicode SMS This is the API provided by your gateway for sending Unicode SMS. You need to get this from your SMS providers. Yes for Unicode SMS API to Send MMS This is the API provided by your gateway for sending Multimedia messages (MMS). You need to get this from your SMS providers. Yes for MMS 21 P age

22 API for Incoming SMS HTTP Request Method Authentication String API Success Word Most 2-Way SMS gateways require that you supply them with a URL where your incoming messages will be forwarded to. The Incoming SMS API is the URL on your site that contains the codes for retrieving incoming messages from your providers. (See the incoming SMS setup section for instruction on handling incoming messages.) Specify what HTTP Request method to be used when communicating with your gateway API. This must match that specified by your gateway. Some SMS gateway APIs requires additional authentication. Your authentication string can be a combination of your username and Password, account ID and token, etc. (E.g. username: password, account ID: token, apikey: secrete, etc.). Your SMS Provider s API reference document should tell you exactly what is required from this. This is a word or code returned by your SMS API on successful submission of message to the gateway (eg. OK, 0000, Sent Successfully, etc.). You need to get this from your provider s API documentation. Yes for 2- Way SMS Required Optional yes 22 P age

23 Gateway Batch Size Enable SMPP over HTTP This is the quantity of SMS you want this gateway to process at a time. A value between 1 and 30 is recommended for optimal performance. Set this to Yes to use SMPP connection instead of HTTP API. Yes Optional SMPP Server Your SMPP host address or IP Address Optional SMPP Username Your SMPP username Optional SMPP Password Your SMPP password Optional Set Default SMS Route If you want this gateway to be automatically used for messages to selected operators, use this section to define these operators. You need to enter comma separated list of destination number prefix to use with this gateway (E.g , , etc). Do note that you cannot apply dynamic routing to your default SMS gateway. Optional Note: You need to Replace the sender ID variable with [SENDER], recipient variable with [TO] and message variable with [MESSAGE] in your provider's API. 24 Setting Default Message Gateways Sendroid offers you the flexibility of using different SMS providers for deferent message types. After setting up your SMS gateways, you need to set the default gateways for each message types (SMS, MMS, Unicode and Incoming SMS) by clicking the Star icon next to the desired SMS gateway (under Set desired message type column). A gateway can only be available for use as default for any message type if an API was supplied for the message type. Setting up Incoming Message API Most 2-Way SMS gateways POST your incoming messages to a URL on your server. You are required to write a code to handle retrieval of these messages and store on your server. You will then have to supply the URL of the handler to your SMS gateway Sendroid comes integrated with the following 2-Way SMS gateways; Nexmo, Twilio and Infobip. To use any of these pre-installed gateways for incoming SMS, simply setup your account with the desired provider to forward incoming SMS to (Eg. To create custom Incoming SMS handler for other SMS gateways, simply use or imitate the codes in You may only be required to modify the parameter names in line of the sample script in most cases. After you have created and saved your incoming SMS handler, go to your gateway settings and enter the URL in the Incoming SMS API field. You will also need to provide the URL to your provider as required. 24 P age

25 Setting Up 2-Way Messaging for a Customer. To enable 2-way messaging on a customers account, you need to assign an incoming SMS short-code, phone number (including country code) or Keyword to the customer. The system uses these to assign incoming SMS to the right owner. Enabling/Disabling Unicode, MMS or 2-Way SMS Features By default, the system enables the use of MMS, Unicode and Incoming SMS features on your portal. You can disable any of these features under Message Settings the on the General Settings page if you do not want to offer such messaging service at any time. Once disabled, such feature becomes inaccessible on your portal. All menu links to such feature will also be removed. SMS Notification Settings Sendroid sends out SMS messages to customer on many events such as Registration, Password Reset, Purchase of SMS Credit, etc. You can customize these messages at System Tools > SMS Notification Settings Please note that all dynamic fields with respective Short-Tags are conveniently listed for you above the SMS Content text box, sorted by their type. 26 add any of them to your SMS template, you can do this by typing the desired tag within your message. Notification Settings Sendroid sends out messages to customers on many events New Account Creation, Password Recovery, Addition of SMS Credit, etc. templates can be edited at System Tools > Notification Settings. Each template has a Subject and Content that you can edit using the inbuilt WYSWYG editor. Please notice that all dynamic fields with respective Short-Tags are conveniently listed for you above the Content text box, sorted by their type. Use the appropriate Short-Tag if you need to add any of them to your template. When you have made your changes to the template, do not forget to save the changes by clicking the update button below it. SMS Cost Settings Sendroid cost settings allows you to easily define the quantity of Units you charge customers for sending each SMS page (160 characters) to various network operators or countries using the country code or a combination of country and operator's code. 26 P age

27 To setup the default and dynamic SMS cost, go to System Tools > SMS Cost Settings Specify the default cost for sending SMS to destinations not included in the advanced SMS cost setup section. In the Advanced SMS Cost Setup text box, type the cost per SMS page, (in terms of units) to deferent operators or country using a combination of country code & network operator's number prefix (eg. 234 for Nigeria, for MTN Nigeria, for MTN Cyprus, etc.). Specify cost of each destination in a new line as shown in the example below; = = = = =3.0 In the above example, the cost of sending 1 page SMS to Etisalat operator in Nigeria (234809) will be 1.3 units, the cost of sending 1 page SMS to any operator in UK (447) will be 3 units, the cost of sending 1 page SMS to MTN operator in Nigeria (234803) will be 1.7 units. Please note that Sendroid SMS Script does not route SMS and as such cannot decode MCCs and MNCs. SMS Pricing Settings The SMS Pricing Setting page is used to define the selling price of SMS units to your customers and resellers To setup your SMS selling price, navigate to System Tools > SMS Unit Pricing Settings Firstly, you need to set the default selling price of SMS unit. This will serve as a fallback value for customers purchasing above the highest maximum unit defined 27 P age

28 under the advanced SMS pricing section. This is also useful if you wish to sell at a flat rate regardless of purchase volume. To setup advanced pricing, click on the "Add New Pricing" button, enter the minimum order volume and the maximum order volume and specify the price for that range (in your default currency). Eg. To set a selling price NGN1.0 for customers buying between 0 and 1000 SMS units, simply type 0 as the minimum Order and 1000 as the Maximum Order, then enter 1.00 as the Price per Unit and save. Repeat the above process to specify all other desired pricing packages in a continuous manner, eg , , , etc. Note! When a customer places an order outside any specified range in the advanced Pricing, the billing system will fall back to default price you provided. 28 P age

29 Admin Menu & Module Overview The following menu items and modules are available on Sendroid Administration portal. Main Menu Sub Menu Description Dashboard - This menu item returns you to the main admin landing/dashboard page with some handy overview of your portal. The dashboard contains a graphical overview of message traffic on your portal within the past 30 days, active vs inactive customer pie chat, unapproved payment alerts, recent transactions and message traffics. Send Message This menu item gives you access to tools for sending various types of messages (MMS, SMS and Unicode) 29 P age

30 Send SMS This menu item opens the Plain Text SMS composer, which allows an admin user to send plain text SMS from the admin portal. You can send SMS to selected phonebook by clicking the Phonebook button above the Recipient box and selecting the desired phonebook. You can send SMS to contacts in a text or csv file by clicking on the Upload File button above the recipient box. 35 Inbox The inbox menu gives you access to your incoming messages (if enabled). When an SMS is received on your portal, the system gets the recipient s number and checks if it is assigned to any customer. If none was found, it searches for any available keyword and uses it to assign the message to the right customer. If no keyword was found, the system simply assigns the message to the admin. Unread messages on the inbox page are presented in Bold fonts. You can Delete or Reply a message from your inbox by using the respective buttons. Please note that the admin inbox page will only show own incoming messages. Your customers messages will not be displayed. 35 P age

36 Message History - This gives you access to view details and status of all SMS traffic pushed through your portal. Messages sent through your portal as well as through API are shown. You can view more details about a message by clicking the Details button next to the message. You can also resend or reuse a message by clicking the Resend button next to the desired message. You can view a more detailed report of SMS traffic on your portal by clicking on the Report button. Draft Message This menu gives you access to your saved messages. From the draft page, you can view all your saved messages, use a saved message or delete a message from your draft. Scheduled Messages - This menu gives you access to manage all queued and scheduled messages on your portal. From this page, you can see current status of the scheduled message (e.g. Pending, Processing, Completed or Expired). 36 P age

37 Contacts Address Book You can also cancel a scheduled message by clicking the Cancel button or Resend the message by clicking on the Use Message. This menu gives you access to tools for managing phonebooks and marketing lists on your portal. This menu item gives you access to the phonebook and contact management tools. From this menu, you can access all phonebooks and contacts saved on your portal (including client s phonebooks). You can add new phonebooks using the Add New Phonebook button. After creating a phonebook, you can add contacts to the phonebook by clicking on the Manage button next to the desired phonebook, then click the Add New Contacts button to add contacts to the selected phonebook. You can either type the phone numbers in the text box or click the Upload Text File button to upload a text file containing comma separated list of contacts or csv file containing contact names in First columns, phone numbers in Second column and Birthday (YYYY-MM-DD) in Third 37 P age

38 column. Sendroid can automatically send customized birthday message to contacts in your phonebook on their birthdays. To enable birthday messaging/reminder feature on a phonebook, simply type desired birthday message in the Birthday Message field. You can also share a phonebook with other customers on your portal by clicking the Share button next to the desired phonebook. You can send SMS to selected phone book by clicking the SMS button next to the desired phonebook. Marketing List This menu item gives you access to the marketing list and contact management tools. From this menu, you can access all marketing lists and contacts saved on your portal (Including clients lists). You can create new marketing using the Create New List button. 38 P age

39 Enter a name, description and Opt-out keyword for the new list and save. After creating a list, you can add contacts to the list by clicking on the Contacts button next to the desired list then click the Add New Contacts button to add contacts to the selected list. You can either type the phone numbers in the text box or click the Upload File button to upload a text file containing comma separated list of contacts or csv file containing contact names in First columns and phone numbers in Second column. You can also add contacts to a marketing list via API. See the API page within your script for more.. You can send SMS to selected list by clicking the SMS button next to the desired phonebook. You can remove a subscriber from a list by deleting the subscriber s contact from the list. A subscriber can also optout of a list by sending a message to your inbox number containing the list s Opt-out keyword. 39 P age

40 Manage Transactions - This menu gives you access to a list of all transactions ever carried out on your portal. You can see details and status of various transactions or approve pending transactions. Manage Tickets - This menu gives you access to the integrated Support Ticket tool, which enable you provide support to your customer. The support ticket page lists all tickets on your portal. Unread customers tickets are shown in Bold fonts. Click the Read button to read a ticket, Reply button to respond to a ticket and New Ticket button to create a new ticket. Administration Tools - This menu gives you access to various Administration and customer management tools. 40 P age

41 Manage Customers This takes you to the customers manage management page with a list of all registered customers on your portal (Those of your resellers will not be shown). From the customer management page, you can; Credit selected customer s account by clicking the Credit button, Send SMS to the customer by clicking the SMS button, Edit the customer s account by clicking the Edit button, Log into the customer s account by clicking the login button, Suspend the customer by clicking the Suspend button and Delete the customer s account by clicking the Delete button. You can also create a new customer from the admin portal by clicking the Add New button, then enter the new customer s account details and save. Sendroid uses two customer account types namely; SMS Consumer: This account type is preferable for standard customers or end-users. This is the default customer type for 41 P age

42 new customers. SMS Resellers: This customer account type is most suitable for customers who buy SMS units from you to re-sell to their own sub-customer. Your resellers can create and manage their own customers from their account. See reseller features above. You can enable 2-Way messaging on a customer s account by providing a unique Keyword for the customer in the Incoming SMS Keyword field. You can also set a custom SMS rate and selling price for a customer. If supplied, these rates and price will be used when billing the customer. Manage Sender ID This menu takes you to the Sender ID manager, which allows you to approve or reject sender ID requests from your customer. This feature is only available if the Dynamic Sender ID feature is disabled at the General Settings page. You can assign new Sender ID to a customer by clicking the New Sender 42 P age

43 ID button and providing the required details. Payment Notification This menu allows you to access Bank Payment notifications posted by your customers upon completion of payments for orders using a custom payment gateway. From this page, you will be able to approve a payment notice or decline it. Approving a payment notification will automatically process associated transaction. Credit Customer s Account This menu gives you access to the tool for adding SMS credits to a customer s account manually. On the Credit Account dialogue box, select the desired customer to credit, enter the quantity of SMS units to add and enter the billed amount. Tick the Add as Borrowed check-box to add the SMS credits as borrowed SMS units, which means that the 43 P age

44 Same quantity will be deducted from customer s account when next he purchase SMS credits. Check the Notify Customer box to send SMS/ alert to the customer. Finally, click the Add Credit button to apply. Send to Customers The menu gives you access to the communication tool, which allows yu to send to all registered customers on your portal. Using this tool is pretty easy type your subject, type you message body using the Rich-Text editor and hit the Send button. Manage Users This menu gives you access to the Admin user management tool, which enable you create and manage administrators for your portal. From the user management page, you can also Edit or Delete an existing user by clicking the appropriate button next to the desired user. Blacklist Manager This menu allows you to view and manage blacklisted phone numbers on your portal. When a phone number is 44 P age

45 blacklisted, they will no longer receive SMS from your portal, even via API. Financial Accounting The financial accounting menu gives you an overview of all incomes from sales on your portal, including a graphical report of current month s sales. System Tools This gives you access to all the integrated system setup and maintenance tools. General Settings This gives you access to the main System setup, customization and branding page. SMS Notification Settings This gives you access to configure and customize various SMS messages sent to customers on different occasions such as Password Recovery, New Account Creation, etc. You can disable SMS notification for an event by leaving the message field blank. See the SMS Notification Setting section on page 15 above for a more detailed guide. 45 P age

From you, you can configure various online payment gateways, create custom payment gateways, etc. See the Configure Payment Gateways section on page 12 above for a more detailed guide. Currency Settings This gives you access to the currency management tools. From here, you can create new currencies, setup your portal default currency, edit existing currencies and exchange rates, etc. See the Setting up Currency section on page 12 above for a more detailed guide. 47 P age

48 Migration Tool This gives you access to an Advanced database manipulation tool that enable you import existing data into you Sendroid database. Database Backup Tool This tool allows you to perform database backups as well as manage existing database backups. From this page, you can download a database backup or restore the selected backup of your database. Excel Plugin / HTTP API Sendroid comes with a Free excel plugin that allows you customers to send advanced SMS from an Excel sheet. This wonderful tool can be accessed and downloaded from the Excel / HTTP API page. The page also gives you an overview of your Portal s API specifications and usage instructions.. 48 P age

50 Customer Menu & Module Overview The following menu items and modules are available on Sendroid Customer Portal. Main Menu Sub Menu Description Dashboard This menu item returns the customer to the main landing/dashboard page with some handy overview of you re the customer s account. The dashboard contains a graphical overview of the customer s message traffic within the past 30 days, the customer s recent transactions and message traffics. 50 P age

51 Buy SMS Credit This menu enables your customers to purchase SMS credits from your portal. To buy SMS credits, the customer just needs to enter the quantity of SMS units to order, select preferred payment option and click on Continue to proceed. On the next page, the customer will be presented an invoice which also serves as an order confirmation page (if an online payment option is selected). In the case where the customer chooses to use one of The online payment gateways, he will be required to click on the Pay Now button to be redirected to the gateways payment page. On successful payment, the customer will be taken to a payment confirmation page with a payment receipt. The customer s account will be credited with the purchased SMS units. If the payment fails, the customer will be taken to a failure page with details of the failed transaction and option to re-try the payment or cancel the order. If the customer has a previous unsettled borrowed SMS credit record, the total outstanding borrowed units will be deducted from the customer s order 51 P age
