2 Guidance AutoFarm A5 Guidance and SMS There are two files that are used with the A5 system in terms of guidance lines and transferring from one device to another or into SMS:.sqlite - This file is one that would be selected to read into SMS. It is created by the display, and there will be one.sqlite file per pattern in the A5. SMS exports this file for Curve job types and when ABMaster paths jobs are being exported. dbmain.db - This file stores information for the base station position, the AB-line in a single AB job, the field names and their respective boundaries, and job names. There is other information in this file that is unused by SMS and only edited on the monitor. Unique aspects of the AutoFarm system This system is very dependent on having a valid base station position. The ideal circumstance is that the user would allow the base station to survey for 24 hours before being used. If this is the case then the guidance lines should be transferable to other systems (Trimble, Deere) with minimal changes in accuracy. If the user didn't let the base station survey in for 24 hours then any position changes get compensated for in the A5 system automatically, so the user is not aware of them. However if the lines are exported to SMS and transferred to another system there will be discrepancies since the line that the A5 has stored is not corrected and passed along to SMS. If you are planning to use lines with an existing base station, then the dbmain.db file from the display that has a valid Base Station in it should be kept on the card. Also when you export data from SMS you need to select the same directory as where the dbmain.db file is stored at. If you have a blank display and a blank card when you export from SMS a fake base station will be created, Supposedly they can be re-assigned, but we haven't been able to do this in our display. Some use-case examples: 1. Have lines that were created in SMS via guidance editor (or imported to SMS from another display), and being exported out to a new A5 system. No prior base station information is on the card (ie - does not contain a "dbmain.db" file from the A5 display) Result: It is very likely that you will have inaccurate placement of lines due to the lines being created with a fake base station. The export simply uses the A point coordinates for the base station. This base station will be named SMS_X where X is just a counter starting at 1 and it will be applied to any lines that are within 6 miles (approx) of it. If you have guidance lines that are more than 6 miles apart from one end to the other, you will have two generated base stations. 2. Have lines that were created in SMS via guidance editor (or imported to SMS from another display), and being exported out to a new A5 system. The Card does contain a valid base station. (ie - contains a "dbmain.db" file from the A5 display) If the guidance lines being exported out are within 6 miles of the base station on the card then they will be assigned (added) to it. If they are more than 6 miles away from a valid base station SMS will create a generic base station, and the data will be basically useless as the display will never connect to a fake base station Lines generated via SMS will most likely have to be shifted as it would when exported to other Guidance 1

3 displays due to lack of real-world refereance points as compared to sitting in the field creating a line Lines from other displays should require little to no shifting 3. Have guidance lines created in an A5 system and read into SMS. The lines were originally created without the base station surveying for 24 hours. Now being converted to an INTEGRA or EDGE display or other brand display. Result: Lines are likely to shift from when they were used with the A5 system because of the 24 survey step not taken when the lines were originally created. There is no way to tell if the 24 hour survey was done 4. Have lines that were created in an A5 system, and now being transferred to a different A5 display. Option A: Recommended to do this in the display as there is a way that the display can sync the data from one display to the other Option B: If the dbmain.db file is copied from the card that has a valid base station ID and location to the card of the second A5 display then when exported from SMS it should be the same as from the other display in terms of accuracy as long as the base station ID and location are the same. In some instances, it may be required to do some shifting as with any line depending on the accuracy needs of the user and potential rounding errors. Hierarchy of data Management information is stored in the A5 display based on Base Station ID. Each Field has to be tied to a base station, much the same as each job needs to be tied to a Field. Base station ID (s) Field name(s) Job names(s) Each job is tied to a guidance type. The guidance types supported to import/export by SMS are: Single AB line Multiple AB lines Circle (aka pivot) Curve During the Syncing process in the A5, the user selects the base stations, subsequent field names, and job names to move from the card to the memory of the display. The display will compare what is in the internal memory and what is on the card. It will only show items that are different. This step is required before the user tries to drive in the field with a guidance line (similar to Integra's where you need to load a.msf file to see field names that were exported from SMS). 4 Guidance Lines Accuracies when converting between guidance systems Generally, most companies that have guidance products create and manage their guidance formats differently. For instance, John Deere uses "Magnetic North" while most other companies use "True North" when determining where North is. AutoFarm uses a different reference system than any of the other companies that is focused around a base station and they use Cartesian coordinates for their positions. The specifications used by each company for guidance lines are usually shared with us. We have established a conversion process to help account for the differences from the individual source. The lines are then kept as close as possible to being the same but there is a small margin of error (slight differences) when converting between systems due to rounding errors or precision differences between formats. A single digit of difference in the rounding can result in centimeters or inches of error. It's difficult to determine exactly how far off you could be between different systems, but errors are usually no greater than a few inches. Converted lines, generated by the software, should be accurate but absolute accuracy in the field is not possible. Differences in GPS systems, how the GPS is installed, steering system calibrations, equal precision levels for values such as heading or swath width, all impact the accuracy of the lines. Guidance lines should always be validated for accuracy in the field. It is possible they will need to shift or remark a line to adjust for minor errors when they get to the field. The goal of the conversion between the systems is to prevent the user from having to re-drive the lines completely. The margin of error increases with distance. The greater the distance from the original guidance line, the greater the fluctuation in accuracy. SMS has the ability to read in and export guidance lines for the following systems: Ag Leader 1. 6 Guidance Line Creation in SMS Guidance Tools in SMS In SMS v17.5, new guidance creation tools were added. In addition to the Region Based Guidance tool, SMS can now use existing guidance lines, logged pass data and boundaries to generate guidance lines from scratch. In this article, each one of the tools are described in more detail. Create Region Based Guidance This tool remains the same as previous versions and allows you to make straight AB lines within a selected region. The various settings shown below allow you to specify the various guidance line settings. Common use for this tool would be to allow you to create straight AB lines for any use quickly and easily. 7 Create Guidance from Existing Guidance Lines This option allows you to use an existing guidance line to make a carbon copy. After selecting this option, SMS will prompt you to select one or more lines that you wish to copy. Once this is complete, the new lines will be shown and can be saved under any desired location in the management tree. Common use for this option would be to make a copy of a line and save in a different year or field while keeping the original line in its place. Guidance Line Creation in SMS 6

8 Create Guidance from Logged Pass This tool allows you to select one or more pass of logged data and place a guidance line down the middle of the swath. In the selection dialog, you can select as many passes as you would like to create guidance for. Note that the guidance swath will not reflect the swath width of the logged data it is based on and will default to 30 ft. This number can be changed in the guidance editor. It is important to keep in mind that any irregularities in the logged pass will also be shown in the created line. Any lines that may require edits can be fixed in the guidance editor. Common use for this tool would be if you needed to make lines for a custom applicator based on this year's planting, thus ensuring that they can follow the rows. Guidance Line Creation in SMS 7

9 Create Guidance along Boundary Edge This tool will allow you to use a boundary edge to create a guidance line. To use this tool, you will need to have a map created of your field boundary first. Then in this tools specific dialog, you will use the arrows to set the desired edge(s) you would like SMS to base a pattern on. You will also want to set the swath width here and can create multiple lines. As with the other guidance tools, any irregularity or inaccuracy in the boundary map will result in that being mirrored in the new line and any edits required can be done in the guidance editor. Common use for this tool would be to create headland patterns using an RTK boundary along with your other patterns in order to be more efficient when in the field. Guidance Line Creation in SMS 8
