1 NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA MARCH 8-12, 2015 Employment Bureau Candidate Instructions Welcome to the 2015 Employment Bureau (EB). Before you get started, please read the following important points. (This document often uses the terminology "click on" as if referring to a mouse. If your device uses a touch screen or some other manner to access data, a different action may apply) A. General Instructions: 1. The EB will be located in the Great Hall B&C which is located on the 1st floor of the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, LA. 2. Every candidate who wishes to use the EB services MUST come to Pittcon. You can register for Pittcon 2015 either before coming to Pittcon or on-site. After you register for Pittcon, you can register for the EB to eventually access the database during Pittcon week. 3. You are strongly encouraged to register and upload all of your information before Conference week. Pre-Registration will open in January, 2015; however, no online searching for positions can be performed before the start of Conference week which is Sunday, March 8, 2015 at 1 pm. 4. When you register online for the EB, it is imperative that you upload an electronic resume. If you have to register for the EB when you get to Pittcon, you should bring an electronic copy of your resume for uploading OR bring a printed resume, one in searchable PDF or MS Word Electronic Format. 5. When employers are on-site, they must send a representative to the EB to CHECK-IN and open up their positions for searching. We encourage employers to do this on Sunday so that your positions can be viewed by candidates starting on Sunday. 6. Once employer positions are opened in the EB, all of those openings and profiles will be available online to users on any devices that are capable of web browsing and receiving/sending s. We strongly encourage utilizing these devices for quick and easy contact. 7. The EB will be open online to registered employers and candidates after Pittcon closes until March 31, This gives Employers an opportunity to do follow up with Candidates. Your Candidate information will be on our web site for viewing the same as it was at the conference. 8. Please remember, a very limited number of personal computers will be available for users who do not have personal communication devices. 9. In 2015, everything will be electronic hard copies of candidate or employer information will not be available.

2 B. How To Pre-Register Online for the Employment Bureau BEFORE the Conference Begins 1. Go to the Pittcon website and scroll over the tab Conferee Area. On the drop-down menu, click on Employment Bureau. Then, click on the button that reads either Candidate or Employer. You will then need to create a User Account. 2. You will see a screen as shown in Figure 1. Once at the Login screen, please click on the Create User Account option, which is located at the bottom middle of the screen. This is a one - time process that needs to be repeated annually (you may not use a password from a previous year). 3. You will next see an ACCOUNT INFORMATION screen as shown in Figure 2. Once you have entered all necessary information, click Submit. You will see a screen as shown in Figure 3 which shows your USER name. You will also receive a confirmation displaying your USER NAME and PASSWORD. IMPORTANT: Please remember this USERNAME and PASSWORD, as from this point on, your USERNAME and PASSWORD will give you access to the EB. Write it down somewhere for future use. 4. To use the EB, click on Employment Bureau, and Login again on the next screen. You will get to the screen shown in Figure 4; click on My Candidate Registration on the left hand side and proceed to answer the application questions as shown in Figure 6. All questions having an asterisk, "*," must be answered. IMPORTANT: Remember to attach an electronic copy of your resume, which should be in searchable PDF or MS Word format and then, click Submit. You can later update this information and resume. Please make sure that your spelling in your profile is correct for employers who will be searching. 5. You will then see your Candidate Registration Number on the screen (C - #). This number will be used to communicate with Employers via . We recommend printing this information page. 6. You re done! Once the EB opens on Sunday March 8, 2015, you will be able to search Employer s job postings. 7. If you have difficulty logging in or completing a profile go to the Troubleshooting Section. C. How to Register for the Employment Bureau DURING Conference Week: 1. If you are on-site and have not registered for Pittcon, either use your own electronic devise or use one of the Registration Computer Terminals located in the Registration area or the EB area. There will be Pittcon staff members to assist you if needed. 2. After registering for Pittcon, you should follow the steps listed above in section B to register for the EB until you see your Candidate Registration Number on the screen. 3. At this point, you should print one additional copy for your records. D. I m registered for the Employment Bureau. But, What Happens DURING Conference Week? 1. On Sunday, March 8, 2015, the EB opens online. At that time, your account should be activated so that you can view Employer s job posting descriptions at the Pittcon Employment Bureau. These positions can be viewed on most of the personal electronic devices that you may have from anywhere as long as you enter the EB portion of the Pittcon website.

3 2. Actions that can be taken: Go to the screen as shown in Figure 1. Enter your USERNAME and PASSWORD and Login. You will see a screen as shown in Figure 5. If you have difficulty logging in or if the screen is displayed differently from what is shown, please go to the Troubleshooting Section for further help. From the screen as displayed in Figure 5, you can do the following actions: View and modify your profile including deleting your resume and uploading a new resume Browse all employers and view specific employers and their job positions. Perform a Full Job Search by clicking or choosing the appropriate boxes. Perform a text search of job openings where you can use the Boolean operations and or or. Send an to an employer. Respond to an . Track your interviews. E. Viewing and/or modifying your Candidate Profile If you click on "My Candidate Registration" you can change the information, delete your resume and upload a new resume. When finished, click "SUBMIT" or SAVE. You can do this from your own device, but if you want a printed copy it should be performed on the on-site computers. F. Browsing and Searching Employers and Job Positions 1. From the screens displayed in Figures 5, 6 and 7, you can perform full or detailed (text) searches for employers and also browse through all the positions that are listed at that particular time. To do a full search, click on "Employers" tab on the left of the screen. You should see a screen similar to Figure 6 which is only showing some of the information that can be displayed. If you see something very different, go to the Troubleshooting Section. You can choose the boxes for the Max Education Level Attained, Areas of Specialization; Work Functions, States, Geographic Regions. Max Education Level Attained Employers enter the minimum education level that they require for the position. Therefore, the search will return positions that have a minimum requirement less than your degree. Selecting Exact Match will limit the retrieval to only your degree but may exclude positions that are suitable for you. Areas of Specialization The checked items are linked by AND logic in the search. Due to the restrictive nature of the logic, the number of selections is limited to three. This area is ignored in the search if no selections are made. Work Functions The checked items are linked by OR logic in the search. There is no limit in the number of items that can be selected. This area is ignored in the search if no selections are made.

4 States and Geographic Regions This is the location to which you are willing to relocate. At least one selection must be made in one of these two areas. The checked items are linked by OR logic in the search. If an employer s position matches your selected criteria, you will be given a list of results at the bottom of the screen. From there you can click on a particular company and review its profile and other listed positions. If you get very few results for your search, you should probably make your search more general, rather than very specific, especially in the Areas of Specialization. 2. You can also browse through all the positions by selecting "View all Employers" on Figure 6. You will get a list of all companies that are listed at that particular time as shown on Figure 7. By clicking on the E Number you will see a short profile of the company. Clicking on the Job Position will give you information about the available job; you can also click on any attachments to view them. The attachments will not be searchable with this software. 3. You can use the BACK button to go back to the previous screen. 4. Every day you should keep track of the number of the last employer that you searched since new employers and positions are added daily during Pittcon. New employers are added numerically and not alphabetically. This will enable you to save time and search ONLY the new listings on a day to day basis. 5. Detailed searches of job listings can be performed and you can use the Boolean operators and or or. When performing a detailed search, you are searching for information within the positions only, not the attachments. You are not searching for particular information about the company unless that information is part of the position posting. 6. You may get a Web time out error sometimes when doing job searches. If you still are doing more searches, use the "Back" tab or click on Employers before logging off and Logging back in. 7. If you are having difficulties, you can also request the EB staff to perform searches by completing a form available at the EB. However, this form may not have as much information as the electronic searches, because the Areas of Specialization and Work Functions are constantly being updated electronically as employers are adding new information about their available positions. G. s 1. From the screen displayed in Figure 5, you can also send s to employers and also respond to their s. An initial can be sent from the job information description area. At the top and bottom of the page is a box for sending s; however, It is advised that this be done sparingly. 2. Most employers want to initiate the interview process and may not respond to s initiated by candidates. If employers feel that they are receiving too many s, initiating s to employers may be terminated. 3. Clicking on "My s" on the left side will show you the s that you sent or received and allow you to respond. H. Interviews 1. All interviews are scheduled by employers only and this scheduling is performed by the EB staff.

5 2. Clicking on "My Interviews" will allow you to track your scheduled and completed interviews. 3. If you are scheduled for an interview, you will receive an , so check your account often, since some employers schedule interviews within a very short timeframe. We are suggesting to employers to give candidates at least TWO to THREE HOURS between the time when the is sent and the scheduled interview time. Please remember, it is your responsibility to re-schedule if you cannot make the interview. ALWAYS send the employer a confirmation to let him know if you can or cannot make the interview time. 4. All interview rooms are located in the EB. These rooms are selected on an as available basis by the interview scheduling software. Unless an employer has a reserved interview booth, we cannot guarantee an Employer will remain in the same room for consecutive interviews. All interviews are limited to 30 minutes. Please arrive 5 to 10 minutes before your scheduled interview and wait in the Interview Waiting Area. 5. Be aware that although you can an employer and inform him/her that you are interested in an interview, the employer may not want to interview you. Only the EB staff can schedule an interview and this is performed at the request of an employer. I. Employment Information Center (EIC) 1. There will be tables along the walls in the Candidate Area. Employers will be encouraged to reserve a table space so that they can place information about their company and/or positions on the table for all candidates to review. 2. Reserving table space is free to all employers. J. Troubleshooting Section 1. The new software has been tested to work with several different laptops, desktops and other devices such as tablets and IPods; however due to the number of different devices, operating systems and Internet browsers, it is not feasible to test all situations. The following are some suggestions of what to do if you have problems logging in using your own device or if your screen appears different from the examples shown. Be sure that you have logged off any previous operation as performed from the screen as shown in Figures 4 or 5. Be sure that you are typing the USERNAME and PASSWORD correctly. The PASSWORD is case sensitive. Refresh the screen or close and reopen the Internet browser. If necessary, reboot the computer or other device. Remember, the software will not search the employer attachments, only the profiled job positions. Try a different Internet browser. Several free browsers can be found at Apple apps can be found at ITunes Store and Android apps at the Android Market. You may get a Web time out error sometimes when doing job searches. If you still are doing more searches try to use the Back tab or click on Employers before logging off and logging back in. If all else fails, use the on-site computers; however because the number of computers is limited, your time on the computer may also be limited. If needed, have the EB staff perform searches for you.
