is a form of asynchronous computer-mediated communication. In this document, features of receiving and sending s via Gmail will be discussed: 1. Creating ing lists 2. Sending CC & BCC s 3. Attaching a file 4. Creating folders 5. Moving & copying messages into folders First of all, to get started with Gmail, you have to create a new account which we have explained it previously in advanced searching skills document If you already have an account, login to your account by entering your username and password (figure 2). Figure (1) Eng. Tahani Z. Fourah 1
Figure(2) A quick look in Gmail account 1. Gmail main menu: It consists of: a. Gmail: to sending and receiving s and creating folders. Eng. Tahani Z. Fourah 2
b. Contacts: to add, edit, delete contacts and creating ing list. c. Tasks: to add, edit, delete tasks. 2. Compose button: to create a new message. 3. Gmail folders: Inbox, Sent Mail, Drafts,.. 4. Gmail Searching box: to search for s. 5. Gmail messages properties: mark as read, unread, starred, unstarred. 6. Privacy, Account settings, Sign out. 7. General settings: Themes, Display density,.. Composing Click Compose button, the following figure will be displayed. 1. To : type the target ( the you want to send the message to). 2. Subject: type the subject of the message. 3. Attach file: click to attach a file with any format. 4. Text box area: to write your message body. 5. Send button: to send the message. 6. Save Now button: to save the message in Drafts. 7. Discard: to cancel the message. Eng. Tahani Z. Fourah 3
Sending CC & BCC s Cc: stands for "carbon copy." Anyone listed in the Cc: field of a message receives a copy of that message when you send it. All other recipients of that message can see that the person you designated as a Cc: recipient received a copy of the message. Bcc: stands for "blind carbon copy." This is similar to the Cc: feature, except that Bcc: recipients are invisible to all the other recipients of the message (including other Bcc: recipients). For example, if you send a message To: Ali@gmail.com and Bcc: Eman@gmail.com, then Ali sees himself as the message's only recipient. Eman, on the other hand, is "in the know" she can see that you sent the message To: Ali, and that you blind-copied her. Note: To send a message, you must always specify at least one recipient in the "To:" field. If you don't, an error message appears when you attempt to send the message. Eng. Tahani Z. Fourah 4
Creating folders Click More in the left side. Click Create new label Eng. Tahani Z. Fourah 5
Fill in the following form 1. Enter the name of the label or folder. For example, Technology for Teaching English. 2. Click Nest label under if you want to create a folder within existing folder. 3. Click Create. After that, your new folder will appear in the list of Gmail folders as shown in the figure below. Eng. Tahani Z. Fourah 6
