1 Logging in Before 'Logging in' Make sure you have navigated to using your browser address window (not Google search window). Occasionally, the location of the site will move but the address above will always point to the website. If the site moves, it will affect any shortcut links you may have so delete them and re-create new links. You may have noticed already that you have access to certain areas of this website without 'logging in'. The announcement bar will provide quick text messages of any important statements or news as and when necessary. Below this is a series of links to the course structure documentation for each unit in the Level 3 Diploma in Castings Technology. The footer text will give you some clue if you are having problems logging in to the Website and contact numbers for support. Ignore the ICME contact. ANY issues with the Website, contact web support or text

2 Logging in The most obvious way to login is by using the small link at the top right of your home page. This will then disappear when you have logged in! Your Username and Password will be given to you personally before the start of the course. Usernames are not case sensitive - but Passwords are. Just type in your Username and Password and click on the Log in button When you have logged in - the login box will disappear and you will see your name (which acts as a personal menu link) at the top right corner. Logging out The only way you can log out is by hovering over your name (top right corner) and clicking on the log out option from the dropdown menu.

3 Problems Logging in If you type in your login details incorrectly and click Log in, the screen will change to a dedicated login page with more options available. Just re-type your login details in the appropriate box and click Log in. You can opt for the VLE to remember your username, but to remember your password is a function of your browser - this can vary depending on your own PC setup - your password would then be stored locally as a cookie. You could use this link if you have forgotten your username or password or contact WEB support Guests can login here using a temporary password provided by ICME or the Web administrator.

4 Troubleshooting If you are having problems logging in to your Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), the most common problems are: Forgetting your username or password Usernames are easy to remember (except for double barrel names or changes by special request). Passwords require some thought do not use a special password for the VLE because you will forget it! Try to keep to your normal or standard password you always use as you are less likely to forget it. Passwords are secure and cannot be viewed by anyone they can only be reset and the WEB administrator will not be able to tell you what it was! Misspelling or using capitalisation Usernames are always lowercase and will convert anything you type in the box to lowercase. However, passwords are case sensitive and you must type in exactly as the original. So if you instinctively type your name starting with a capital (Steve) but your password was without (steve) then it would not work! This error is quite common... Don t try to be over-smart whatever you use as a password (such as using special characters), you will have to remember! Navigating to the wrong website (See the first paragraph of these help notes) There are mirror sites out there and it is possible that your old shortcut links or Google search will take you the wrong login page! You will be prevented from logging in to these sites even though you have entered the correct login details. The only sure way to check if this is the case is to type in the Website URL in the address box at the top of your browser. Using old PC s or laptops which are limited in Java/browser support This may cause other issues within the VLE and running the course material. Often, the old browsers do not support the login scripts (Java) Company network security restrictions Occasionally, your own browser security settings may be set to restrict running Java scripts and therefore will prevent login. Company network security can be very tight (bordering on paranoia) and some will prevent you from doing practically anything on the internet. It can restrict the running of the login script or just visiting certain sites. If you have such a system and you cannot login, see your own IT department.

5 Retrieving your Password! If you happen to forget your password contact WEB support on or text Steve on for assistance. You can automatically reset and create a new one by following the instructions below. However, if your in your profile is incorrect - then you will not be able to do this - you will have to contact your IT support staff. 1. Click on the Forgotten your username or password? link in your login box You will be greeted with means to identify yourself... Either by 'Username' of by your ' address' 2. Type whichever in the text boxes shown below - then click search. 3. The system will check that you exist in the database and a message of instructions will appear... click continue > You will be then sent an with a confirmation link (that you are who you say you are) Click on this link - which will return you back to the VLE website for confirmation The system will generate a new temporary Password and send it to your address Go to your inbox and copy the temporary Password 4. Go to and login using this copied Password 5. When you login, you will receive a 'Change password' box so that you can change it into something that you can remember!
