1 Install Exchange 2007 By: Loc Huynh Last Update: 8/10/2010 3:04 PM Please see the below for the basic Exchange 2007 with Service Pack 1 Installation. In this environment, I am going to setup a HUB Transport and Client Access to one server and MailBox to another server. There is no plan for Edge Server, Message as this is for internal R&D Department only. 1. Pre-Installation Prepare a Windows 2003 Enterprise/Standard x64 Version Add machine to the Domain Latest Windows update services Installed.NET Framwork 2.0 minimum version Installed MMC Install Microsoft Windows PowerShell Upgrade the current Exchange Organisation to be Native Mode (if there is one) Need to have Local Administrator account, Exchange Schema Enterprise, AD Schema Enterprise permission Installation Server should be on the site and AD as the Schema Role Holder (ie: our Schema is on Meldevrootgdcw4, Exchange 2007 should be on Meldevroot Domain). All current Exchange 2003 Servers must run Exchange Service Pack 2. AD must be in a Native Mode. Need to have IIS installed. From the Exchange 2007 CD: Run the setup /preparedomain 2. Installation a. Run Setup.exe

2 b. Requirement Screen c. Click on Step 4: Install Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 SP1 d. Accept the License Agreement e. Accept the Error Reporting f. Select Custom Exchange Server Installation & specify the path for Exchange Server installation g. Select Client Access Role for the FIRST SERVER

3 h. Enter the Exchange Organization Name: Meldevroot i. Wait for the Readiness Checks. j. Installation is on the way if the Readiness Checks were successful k. Once Client Access is done, we will install the next server. l. Re-run the setup.exe file m. Click on Step 4: Install Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 SP1 n. Click Next then select Hub Transport Role. o. Select the appropriate Mail Flow server from Exchange 2000/2003 server p. Wait for the Readiness Checks q. If checked is OK, click on Install r. Once the Hub Transport Role is done s. Re-Run Setup.exe

4 t. Click on Step 4: u. Select MailBox Role 3. Post-Installation Click on Step 5: Get Critical Update for Exchange. Testing IMAP4: By default, this is disable o Connect to Client Access Server o Need to start up service o Select different authentication method for testing. (ie: using Plain text authentication login (intergraded Windows authentication) Testing POP3: By default, this is disable o Connect to Client Access Server o Need to start up service o Select different authentication method for testing. (ie: using Plain text authentication login (intergraded Windows authentication) Setup MS OutLook IMAP Client; might need to alter the authentication method to get it sends/receives. If we don t have Edge Server, we will need to enable the Anonymous User in the Default Receive Connector for the user to collect from the Internet; this is disabled by default. 4. Tip & Tricks To test with the SMTP Protocol; will need to check Permission Groups on the Receive Connectors (Default ServerName Receive Connector); set it to be Anonymous to have a basic test. By default, SMTP is already there, just need to configure. To test with different Domain Name; add it to the Accept Domain In theory, it s best to have Internet SMTP install on Edge Server. To force a Schema Manager directly from the Exchange Server On the server on which you want to install Exchange, start Registry Editor. To do this, click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK. Locate the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Netlogon\Parameters Create the following new String value:

5 Value name: SiteName Value type: REG_SZ Value data: <site_that_contains_the_schema_master> Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the Netlogon service. This action forces the Exchange server to participate in the site that you specified. Install Exchange. Remove the registry entry that you added in step 3. Restart the Netlogon service. This action returns Exchange to the original site. On Windows 2008; install IIS by adding the new Web Server (IIS) Roles.
