1 Information for ENSEEIHT Applicants to the Georgia Tech Lorraine Double-Degree Programs in Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering and Mechanical Engineering Admission to Georgia Tech Lorraine is made on-line through the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) in Atlanta, Georgia. The Online Application All students must apply online on or before March 1. This is done by visiting the site and following the directions at the site: 1.You arrive on the home page of the Graduate Admissions website. Select Degree Programs from the left-bar menu. 2.You reach the page with all the Graduate Programs offered at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Select your program of interest: Computer Science or Electrical & Computer Engineering or Mechanical Engineering. 3.You reach then the page with the General Information on the program. Read carefully this page as it contains the key figures for the English-language test TOEFL, TOEIC and GRE -. 4.At the bottom of the right menu, select Apply for the Program. 5.You will then arrive at the Application Procedures screen. Print this page for future reference, then go to the bottom of the screen and select CLICK HERE TO BEGIN THE ONLINE APPLICATION PROCESS. 6.You will arrive at the actual application. Complete the application. This is a twostep process. 6.1.Step 1: create a new account. The form for doing this is reproduced on the next page. Note that you must enter your complete name AS IT APPEARS ON YOUR PASSPORT. Create a New Account Once created, your account can be used to save and re-edit all of your applications on the ApplyWeb system, as well as submit your applications to the admissions department. Be sure to remember your username and password. User Info The information you enter here will be automatically entered into each ApplyWeb application that you complete. You must use your legal name. (International Applicants must apply using their legal name exactly as it appears on their passport.) The name you enter here cannot be changed. 2 Username: Enter up to 8 characters for your desired username below. Lowercase letters and numbers only. Note when choosing a user name: Your user name will be part of your user id when your application is sent to an admissions office. Password: Enter your new password twice - be sure there were no spelling mistakes. Passwords must be at least 7 characters. Spaces are not allowed. New password: New password (again): Note that the form above will accept your French phone number in the usual format, e.g., After you complete the form on the previous page, you click on the Create My Account button at the bottom of the screen. When you do this the screen shown below will appear. Please Print For Your Records Account Created for f57070 Thank you, James Mahan, you have successfully created an account. Your new username is f57070 Your password is xxxxxxx (your password will appear here) You will need to remember these to access online forms and your personal activity page. When you access a secured page, you will be asked to enter your username and password. 6.2.Step 2: read the General Instructions. After printing the above page, the next step is to select General Instructions. You will arrive at the screen Directions and Information. Print this page and then select Go To Application. When you arrive at the next screen, select the blue box labeled Online Application. You will then be asked to log in using your username and your password. You are now ready for the second step, in which you complete the actual application. The application consists of 4 parts. When you complete each part you then save it and go to the next part. The first screen of the application is PART 1: GENERAL APPLICATION. You do not yet have a Social Security Number or a GTID, so leave these boxes empty. When you enter your address, leave the State box empty. The word Zip means Code Postal. Under Paragraph 14, Program of Study, make the following selections:

3 o Application Status: First Time Grad o Planned Enrollment Term: Fall 2010 o Planned Campus: GT-Lorraine o ( Fall 2010 is the Planned Enrollment Term even though you actually arrive at GT-L in Spring 2011.) Under Paragraph 15 the question is posed, If your Degree Objective is Masters, do you plan to pursue a Ph.D. in the future? Unfortunately, the honest answer, I don t know, is not one of the choices. Given the choices Yes and No, the best strategy is to select Yes. This choice does not commit you to anything but it gives the jury a favorable impression. Continuing in this vein, the next question, If yes, when? should be answered Immediately. When the form asks you if you are seeking Financial Assistance, you should respond Yes (why not?), but when it asks you if financial assistance is required you should respond No. When you arrive at the place where you need to enter information about your school, you click on SEARCH, and a new screen will appear. In the Country block if you use the drop-down to enter France (leaving School and Province blank) and then select "Find School," a list of about 87 French schools will appear. If you then click on your school, the computer will automatically fill in the line on the application with the correct information. You will next be asked to supply the full name, address, and institution of three persons who have agreed to write letters of recommendation, so have this information available when you begin completing the application. Note that you will not be allowed to change these referees later, so be sure to verify that the three people are willing to do this on line and in English. If you have not yet taken the GRE or the TOEFL, you can leave the boxes provided for your scores empty. However, note that when you do take these tests it is ESSENTIAL that you provide the Georgia Tech institute code when you take the test. Your scores will then be forwarded directly to Georgia Tech by the Educational Testing Service (ETS). The Georgia Tech institute code for the GRE is R5248, and for the TOEFL it is When you have completed PART 1, go directly to PART 4. This is done by clicking on the Page 4 icon in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen. (International applicants do not complete PART 2: GEORGIA RESIDENCY APPLICATION, and GT-L international applicants do not complete PART 3: NON-CITIZEN FORM at this time because they spend their first year in France.) You will arrive at PART 4: Depending on the program, you will have either Computer Science (CS) from or Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE) form or Mechanical Engineering (ME) form. Note that paragraph 7 in PART 4 is important and should be completed thoughtfully. The two statements you make in this paragraph will be read and taken into consideration by the admissions jury. At the end of this form please click on the button Save, Pay, and Send. If your application is incomplete you will immediately be prompted to supply the missing information. If your application is

4 complete, you will be given information for paying the $50 application fee by credit/debit card. (Please be warned that the bank charges an additional $25 for this electronic transaction!) When you submit your application electronically, you will be given a confirmation number at the end of the session (after you pay your $50). Please download and print two copies of the online application and write the confirmation number on the top of these copies. One copy is sent to GT-L with the transcripts see below and the second copy is kept by the Directeur des Etudes of ENSEEIHT. DO NOT SEND ANY DOCUMENTS DIRECTLY TO THE GRADUATE ADMISSIONS OFFICE OF THE GEORGIA INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY. YOUR APPLICATION WILL BE SENT DIRECTLY BY ENSEEIHT TO GT-L. Letters of Recommendation You will enter the contact information about your referees in the online application. Please note that Georgia Tech does not contact your referees with instructions about completing their letters of recommendation. Approximately 5-10 working days after you pay your application fee and submit your online application, you will receive an with detailed instructions regarding the procedure for submitting online letters of recommendation. It will be up to you to forward these instructions to each referee. Specifically, you will communicate to them a website address for entering their recommendation and a PIN (password) to be used as their logon to the site. It will be your responsibility to see that each referee receives these instructions. You then need to check the application status interface from time to time to verify that the letters of recommendation have been entered. Important Note After you apply, Georgia Tech will automatically send you reminders by informing you that they have not yet received your transcripts or other elements of your application. Please ignore these reminders. Georgia Tech Lorraine will work with ENSEEIHT to see that your transcripts and other missing elements are delivered to Georgia Tech Atlanta in a timely way. You may also receive reminders and inquiries concerning things that clearly do not apply to you. This is because the computer assumes that all new applicants are going straight to Atlanta. Please ignore these reminders and inquiries. If Georgia Tech really does need something from you, you will be contacted by Mme Roschitz at GT-L. Transcripts At your request two originals of your ENSEEIHT transcripts will be sent to Georgia Tech Lorraine by ENSEEIHT. You must provide two copies of your classes préparatoires (or university) transcripts * in the original (French) language to ENSEEIHT. ENSEEIHT will then certify them and forward them to Georgia Tech Lorraine, once again at your request. * If you are a graduate of a university, please provide, in addition to two copies of certified transcripts and certified translations, 2 certified copies of the original diploma and two certified translations.

5 You must translate your classes préparatoires (or University) transcripts into English and then have the translation certified by, for example, their English teacher at ENSEEIHT. THE FORM OF THE ORIGINAL FRENCH LANGUAGE TRANSCRIPTS MUST BE REPEATED IN THE TRANSLATIONS so that the two versions can be easily compared. Also, the translation must be word processed, not written by hand. You are responsible to see to it that two copies are forwarded to Georgia Tech Lorraine by ENSEEIHT. It is your responsibility to verify that these transcripts and translations have been sent to Georgia Tech Lorraine by ENSEEIHT. The deadline for receipt of the transcripts by Georgia Tech Lorraine is April 1. This means that you must deliver your classes préparatoires (or university) transcripts and the translations to your Directeur des Etudes by March 15. GRE and TOEFL Scores TOEFL scores are reported directly to Georgia Tech by the Educational Testing Service. Note that you must enter the Georgia Institute of Technology code number (5248) in the correct box when you take the test. The deadline for taking the TOEFL is March 31. About the TOEFL ibt or TOEIC The TOEFL ibt or TOEIC are required for admission. The minimum scores are: TOEFL ibt > 100/120 (CS), 80/120 (ECE) and 94/120 (ME) TOEIC > 750 About the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) Three parts: Verbal (V), Quantitative (Q), and Analytical Writing (A). Only the electronic version of the GRE is normally available. The minimum acceptable scores are V = 400/800, Q = 750/800, and A = 3.5/6.0. This does not mean that you will automatically be admitted if you attain these scores. However, it does mean that your chances of being admitted are greatly reduced if you do not attain these scores. Preparing for the Graduate Record Exam Search GRE preparation under Google to access a range of free preparation kits Visit the internet site Click on Test Preparation. Select, download, and print An Introduction to the Analytical Writing Section of the GRE General Test. Select, download, and print GRE Practice General Test. The GRE must be prepared! If your scores on the GRE are inadequate the first time you take it, you will be allowed to take it again; however, the test costs about $170 every time you take it, so it pays to prepare.
