1 Overview of the Nutaq -Based Systems Software Components Nutaq -based systems are the μsdr42x, the PicoSDR and the PicoDigitizer The system offers an easy path to an embedded digital processing solution. The software contains three layers of software that allows to control the board ranging from a low-level to a high-level perspective. The Board Support Package (BSP) is at the lowest software level. It allows control over nearly all aspects of the hardware and on a wide variety of parameters. The Board Software Development Kit (BSDK) includes all the functionalities provided by the BSP and also allows remote access to those functionalities from a host computer through the External API (EAPI). The BSDK also contains what is needed to stream data from and to the AMC through an API called RTDEx. The BSDK also includes a feature called the Command Line Interface (CLI). This CLI allows easy access to the functionalities of the AMC through the EAPI. The MBDK allows the user to do high-level FPGA development using the Nutaq proprietary blocks or System Generator blocks. The MBDK introduces co-simulation host blocks which enable MATLAB to exchange data with the directly through RTDEx. It can then be processed on the host which acts as a coprocessor. MBDK BSDK BSP

It contains libraries of functions built for this task. The libraries allow you to customize devices configuration to suit your application. These libraries are built for the Xilinx Microblaze processor. Using the Xilinx SDK software, the user is able to build custom application. This program may be loaded using the JTAG connection or by including this program in a bitstream. This bitstream may also be written on the onboard flash so that it is loaded at when the starts up and immediately after that the user application is executed by the Microblaze processor. 3 Board Software Development Kit Remote Host Cli EAPI (RTDEx Record/Playback) EAPI (RTDEx Record/Playback) Cli Ethernet MAC PCIe Virtex-6 User logic Record/ Playback RTDEx MicroBlaze (onboard Linux) device core Device Embedded Host Peripherals To allow remote control of the and its peripherals through an Ethernet or a PCIe network, the BSDK features an onboard MicroBlaze Linux distribution called Petalinux. The Nutaq Software Libraries is integrated into the Central Communication Engine (CCE), a Nutaq server application that handles remote commands. The External Application Programming Interface (EAPI) helps the user to build request to the CCE from a host. The CCE is an implementation of an RPC (Remote Procedure Call library). It exposes the function of the Nutaq Software Libraries to the network. The CCE receives the TCP connection from the network and answers to requests coming in real-time. A simple protocol is used. A request contains a function ID and a parameter list. Each function from the Nutaq Software Libraries possesses a unique ID. When receiving a request, the CCE calls the corresponding function using a function lookup table. The EAPI allows the user to connect to the CCE and call remote function on the board. It is lightweight to expose the same interface as the Nutaq Software Libraries. The BSDK also includes the Command Line Interface software (ADP CLI) that includes the functionalities of the EAPI and allows the user to easily reconfigure peripherals and to operate the board.

The MBDK allows the user to do high-level FPGA development using the Nutaq proprietary blocks as well as System Generetator blocks. The MBDK also introduces co-simulation host blocks which enable MATLAB to exchange data with the directly through RTDEx. It can then be processed on the host, used as a coprocessor.
