1 Spring 0 International Comparisons The data presented are overall means and standard deviations by grade level and content areas, sorted by regional associations. This summary report is produced twice per school year after end of the fall and spring testing windows. The total of test administrations were, in: Mathematics,, Reading,, Language Usage,, General Science,, Science Concepts and Processes,,0. Tables include the following information:. Number of students tested in each grade/subject. Mean RIT score. Standard deviation of the RIT score The information is presented in these groupings:. All International Students all A/OS, Non A/OS, and unaffiliated schools. All A/OS Schools - Overseas American-Sponsored Elementary and Secondary Schools assisted by the U.S. Department of State Office of Overseas Schools. All Non A/OS Schools Schools not assisted by US Department of State s Office of Overseas Schools. Data by member schools of geographical regions: Association of American Schools in South America (AASSA) Association of International Schools in Africa (AISA) Central and Eastern European Schools Association (CEESA) East Asia Regional Council of Overseas Schools (EARCOS) European Council of International Schools (ECIS) Mediterranean Association of International Schools (MAIS) Near East South Asia Council of Overseas Schools (NESA) Association of American Schools of Central America, Colombia, the Caribbean and Mexico (Tri-Association) Many schools are affiliated with more than one regional association. Students of schools that are members of multiple associations are included in each association s total. Spring 0 International Comparisons
2 Frequently Asked Questions. What is this report? This report is an aggregated statistical analysis of MAP data from international schools. It provides a consistent means of comparisons of specific sub-groups of by subject and grade. This allows partners to compare their MAP results with other schools within their region or membership organization.. Why are these sets of data called International Comparisons and not International Norms? There is an important statistical difference between the way the international data was compiled and the way USA norms are compiled. In developing our norms, large representative samples of test data are selected to assure that demographic groups and geographic regions in the USA are equally represented in the data set. NWEA uses approximately million test results for this kind of study. Employing this method the means, standard deviations, and growth targets are not skewed by over representation of any one group or region. Norms are used to describe what the likely data would be if all students in the US were tested. The International Comparisons are not statistical constructs like norms but are an accurate reflection of the students who actually tested. USA norm data is used in all NWEA MAP reports to help partners target growth for students.. How were these International Comparisons calculated? All MAP scores for international students are aggregated by school, region, and membership organizations without attempting to balance by region or demographic group. The number of students tested is not large enough to support developing balanced samples. Means and standard deviations are calculated from all international students test data and are descriptive of the actual performance. All comparisons made using the data are valid.. How can these International Comparisons be used? The International Comparisons can be used to compare schools to other schools within a region, across regions, or across membership organizations. Another use of these comparisons would be to compare these international students to similarly performing students from the USA norms. International schools may use the USA norms study ( as a comparison to their students. In addition to comparisons to USA means, international schools can use the growth data available in the USA norms to compare the rate of student growth, and set growth targets.. How often are the International Comparisons calculated? The comparisons are calculated twice each year, in the spring and fall. This allows for the most recent data on which to compare individual schools and regions. Every three years we collect, aggregate, and report fall and spring test data to provide a method for longitudinal comparisons. Spring 0 International Comparisons
