4 1. Introduction This document is the end-user manual of the MARGARETA Card Management system (short: Margareta system). The owner of the card (and by that of the certificates) is referred as the end-user. MARGARETA allows renewing the certificate(s) on the card, (by generating new key pairs), if it would expire(s) within a given number of, (e.g. 30) days. After the expiration of the certificates, remote renewal is not possible, it can be performed only by the operators of the Card Management System. Users can access the end user website of Margareta system through a browser, or by a Java Web Start application. Communication with the Margareta system is only possible through secure SSL connection. 4/9

Supported platforms Supported client platforms: Windows 7-10 Supported browser types: Firefox 3.5 or higher Internet Explorer 7 or higher Chromium based browsers Supported Java versions: Note: JRE 1.7 Update 7 or higher- 32 bit version JRE 1.8 Update 0 or higher- 32 or 64 bit version The End user functions of Margareta are provided by a Java applet, which can be accessed from a browser or as a Java Web Start application. For embedded applet you need the browser support. WebStart application can be accessed by downloading and opening the JNPL file. Java version 8 can be used with 64 bit version. If Java Runtime Environment 64 bit version is installed, there is no need to remove it, but you have to use the system with the 32 bit version (e.g. to launch a 32 bit browser). 5/9

6 3. End user portal 3.1. Using Web Start application The portal can be accessed from Margareta End Entity server via the following URL: As fewer and fewer browsers support Java applets, End Entity Applet can be run in a new practical way by downloading and opening the JNPL file available at the link below. Note: The applet can be downloaded directly from link: Embedded (applet) mode For browsers that have support for Java applets, you can also use the embedded End Entity applet. In this case, the end-user software is a Java applet, which can be used by the browser. 6/9

7 4. End user applet functions 4.1. Card listing After starting the applet, the cards in the readers and the appropriate USB tokens are listed, as seen in the following figure: If the proper card/token is later connected to the computer, then you can read the device after pressing the List cards button Card renewal Card renewal means the change of the certificates on the cards before expiration. Margareta always generates new key-pairs for each newly issued certificate. Clicking the Renew button you can launch the renewal of the card. A renewal can only be performed a given time prior to the expiry of certificates (it is usually 30 days, but it can be centrally set.). If you try to renew the card before the enabled time, the following error message appears: 7/9

8 If the requirements are fulfilled, the renewal begins with the generation of key pair(s) a process that can take a couple of minutes, depending on the speed of the device. While renewing a progress window is displayed as during card creation -, and when finishing, a message window informs you: The following message appears when the renewal is successful: 4.3.
