1 Java upgrade required for Work CAR & Recon clients by February 5th, 2018! Java 8 required Work Users As of February 5th, 2018, all American Work CAR and Recon users must ensure that they have upgraded their systems to Java 8 to assure the operability Work tools. Why are we making this change? The PCI Security Council has mandated that all service providers that process or transmit credit card data must make sure that they and all of their merchants are using the latest version of Transport Layer Security (TLS), version 1.2. Therefore, as of February 5, 2018, Work users must have upgraded their TLS accordingly. This required TLS change will also impact java compatibility. Work users will need to verify that they are using Java 8. TLS 1.2 is the default protocol for Java 8 and is designed to address interoperability and backwards compatibility. Most of our users are already using Java 8, so the impact is expected to be minimal. How do you know if you re affected? The first step is to determine which version of Java you are currently using. If you need additional assistance, please contact your internal IT department. Window Users Windows Right-click on the Start button and select the Control Panel option. 2. In the Windows Control Panel, click on Programs. 3. Click on the Java icon to open the Java Control Panel. Windows 8 1. Press Windows logo key + W to open the Search charm to search settings OR Drag the Mouse pointer to the bottom-right corner of the screen, then click on the Search icon. 2. Windows Users To enable the latest installed version of Java in the Java Control Panel: 1. In the Java Control Panel, click on the Java tab. 2. Click View to display the Java Runtime Environment Settings 3. Verify that the latest Java Runtime version is enabled by checking the Enabled box. 4. Click OK to save settings 5. Click OK in Java Control Panel window to confirm changes and close the window. 6. You will see one of three messages either you have no Java/Java is disabled or your version of Java is out of date with a link to the update or as in this case you have the latest Java installed. 6. Go to the Update tab in Java Control Panel and click on Update Now button that brings up Installer window. 3. Click on Install Update. 4. Click on Install and Relaunch. (Save all your work before clicking Install and Relaunch.) 5. Once the installation is completed the Java application will be relaunched. 6.
