2 Geoprocessing Services Publish Geoprocessing Toolbox through ArcGIS Server to create a Geoprocessing Service. Each tool, script and/or model in the toolbox becomes a task. Publish

3 What is a geoprocessing task? Geoprocessing Task is a REST Endpoint to access geoprocessing functionality. REST Url : ArcGIS REST Services Directory/GPServer/<Task> Example: ces/network/esri_drivetime_us/gpserver/createdrive TimePolygons

4 Task Operations Task supports two kinds of operations 1. Execute Task : For faster processes - Execution Mode : Synchronous 2. Submit Job : For long running processes (more than 10 secs) - Execution Mode : Asynchronous

5 Task Parameters Every Task has its own parameters Task Parameters are of two categories: - 1. Input parameters - 2. Output parameters Input Parameters Task Output Parameters

34 Creating a PDF from a GPX file

35 Overview ASP.NET code handles the file upload Python script converts GPX to Features arcpy.mapping is used to create a high quality PDF Upload.gpx file to the web server Pass.gpx files to ArcGIS Server PDF map available for download ArcGIS Server converts.gpx and creates a PDF from the template layer files and MXDs

37 File Upload The file is accessed by call openfiledialog - Stream is sent to the HTTPHandler The hander is created with ASP.NET - Handler is responsible for reading and writing a file stream - File is saved to a known path on the server File Upload* code sample from Tim Heuer: - *Upload can be handled in many ways, PHP, ASP.NET, FTP, etc.

38 GPX Conversion to Features Python script reads and parses GPX (xml) into a featureclass - Python elementtree is used to read the XML - arcpy.insertcursor puts the X/Y values into a new featureclass Input: string (file name) - Script has hard coded path to the file upload directory, it only requires the name to build the path to the file *Any type of conversion can be done (KML, Text, packages, etc) Search: handling xml

40 arcpy.mapping PDF Export Pre-creation of MXD layouts and layer files produces expected results regardless of the input data - You can leverage the work of cartographers within your service The appropriate MXD and layerfiles are chosen based on inputs from the service Title, layer name and map notes inserted into the map Output PDF is created and returned to the client
