NORLAND PRODUCTS INC 2540 Route 130, Bldg 100 P.0. BOX 637 Cranbury, NJ TEL , FAX ACCISNT RELEASE NOTES Changes for ACCISNT v6.02: Changed SETUP menu to allow selection of Microscope type via the Microscope Type field (previously called Object. Pwr). Added Advantage to the list of choices (only other selectable choice is now NC/AC3000 ). ACCIS now automatically configures for Advantage microscope type if detected upon ACCIS startup. Note: an AC3005 as well as a true Advantage microscope will be identified as an Advantage system by the ACCISNTv6.02 software. Modified ACCIS to allow support for Plastic Optical Fiber (POF) scanning as well as other large fiber connectors in conjunction with Advantage system use. Made changes in grab technique to eliminate video sync error occurring with ACCIS running on Dell Dimension platforms. Grab technique now the same as that for ACCISRCv3.02 (where same problem not occurring). Changes for ACCISNT v6.01.1: Upgraded Matrox Capture card interfacing library used in generating ACCISNT to MIL-Lite v7.1. This upgrade is required in order to support computer systems using the latest PCI interface chipset. However, due to this upgrade, older ACCIS systems using the Matrox Meteor-I ( Meteor/PPB ) are no longer supported by this version and must either upgrade their hardware to Meteor-II or use no later version than ACCISNTv6.01. Modified ACCIS initialization to insure correct microscope identification when program starts. Also changed warning message to User accordingly. Redesigned Offset Certification to prevent false triggering of Invalid Magnification Calibration as well as the Please reposition traces between yellow trace guides error messages. Changes for ACCISNT v6.01: Renamed Auto-Leveling function to Offset Calibration, and added Offset Certification functionality to it. Offset Certification uses the Norland NIST-traceable Reticle standard to certify the apex offset measurement for the Norland Leveling Tool, thus giving assurance of accuracy for all future apex offset measurements.
a. Offset Certification also checks if current Magnification Calibration is not correct (by comparing to Magnification Calibration determined internally from NISTtraceable Reticle standard) and reports to User if recalibration is needed. Calculation of total ROC made the same for "Normal" as well as "Bare Ferrule" Scan Type settings. Purpose of this change is to align total ROC calculation with method of calculating ROC Min and Max, thus insuring that total ROC will always fall between ROC Min and ROC Max. In Report Configuration dialog: a. Added ability to delete or rename a previously-created Report Layout. These buttons are available only to ACCIS-Administrator-level users. b. Icon-entry and Company Information entry now works correctly for all lengths of entry data. Report Configuration Database file located into the Config directory (defined in the Configuration/Option/System menu) instead of the Working directory (location where ACCIS program executables were installed on customer s system). For scans done while Live Image is set to full screen, scan results shown at scan completion are now the correct scan. Redesigned Configuration File selection in the Information dialog area (below Live Image) to find configuration files in the directory defined by the Config Path in the Configuration/Option/System menu (was previously tied to the c:\program Files\Norland Products\<ACCIS version> directory). Changed title for planar height information on scan printouts from Fiber Planar Height to Fiber Planar Undercut. Added saving of new Magnification Calibration into the Registry immediately upon clicking the OK button in the Calibration dialog. This insures not losing a new calibration due to a program crash or power outage while ACCIS is running. Changed display of scan quantitative results to highlight in Red those measurements that are outside Pass-Fail limits set by the Operator (when Pass-Fail has been enabled in the ACCIS Setup menu). Changes for ACCISNT v6.00: Modified to support new AC300X series of interferometers and associated automatic identification of which series type is attached to computer each time ACCIS is started. Modified to allow larger offsets and sharper ROCs. Spreadsheet settings changed to be configurable only by an ACCIS-Administrator-level user. Disabled <Default> button in Setup menu for all users except ACCIS-Administrator-level users. Updated Report Configuration and Generation dialogs and functionality. Added User choice to run scans with Live View set to full screen (which relocates Results View to the right side). Added Quick Scan capability and associated icon (allows user to perform a scan without the extra steps of entering a Connector ID followed by an additional <Start> button press to proceed). Quick Scan can also by activated with an <F12> keyboard function key press.
Measure activation with the <F4>-key (which waits for user to enter a Connector ID before proceeding) is still available. Added Microsoft Access Database storage of scan configuration data as well as all graphical and quantitative scan results. Added checking for Degree of Mount Wear to the AutoLevel dialog and display of that value if the mount is found to have wear greater than 75% (mount replacement is recommended when Degree of Mount Wear reaches or exceeds 100%). This is essentially a Worn Mount early-warning system. Renamed AutoSave functionality in the Configuration/Option/General dialog to AutoExport. Repaired bug that was causing system memory to be used up after many scans, if ACCIS was not restarted. Changes for ACCISNT v5.60: Repeatability of the Apex Offset measurement has been improved by modifying algorithms involved in the fiber finding and phase-shift calibration processes. Expanded and improved AutoLeveling function as follows: a. Incorporated checking for and reporting of loose or otherwise malfunctioning connector mount. b. Added on-screen assistance for coarse leveling process. c. Increased the leveling offset threshold (thus allowing the offset correction factors to compensate for a larger leveling offset without need for coarse leveling). d. Incorporated more error-checking. Created new illumination calibration dialog (Action/Illum Calib) available to all levels of ACCIS users. It provides capability for automatic as well as manual adjustment of the default Brightness and Contrast settings. Added ability to configure the ACCIS Setup menu Pass-Fail limits as a custom version of the industry standards (Telcordia or IEC) while still using the Fiber Height standard curves. The CSV (Comma-separated-values) type of output file format has been added to the AutoSave options. Each CSV file created contains data from only one scan, and includes additional scan configuration information not stored to the Excel output format. If a Setup configuration has been established by selecting and loading from a Configuration file (*.cfg), the name of that selected Configuration file is now included in the data written into the Excel spreadsheet, as well as into the CSV file if so requested by the operator. An extensive and flexible reporting function has been incorporated, accessible from the toolbar as well as the pulldown menu. The output data formerly called Fiber Height has been renamed Fiber Undercut to help avoid confusion relating to the sign convention for Fiber Height used by IEC vs. Telcordia.
Directory browse capability has been added to the System dialog of the Configuration/Option sheets. This allows easier and more robust selection of the default location for storing scan data and ACCIS configuration information. Incorporated better error-handling in the event of a failed or aborted scan. Previous related problems included crashing of ACCIS due to attempt to create final scan display without valid results to show. Fixed error in software that allowed program configuration and calibration factors to change if an Operator attempt to launch ACCIS a second time while already running a first instance was followed by ACCIS aborting prematurely (i.e.; crashing for any reason). Changes for ACCISNT v5.50: Improved ACCIS installation utility which searches for a previous ACCIS version and, if one is found, uses the previous Illumination and Magnification calibration factors in the new version configuration. Also, the MIL Installation CD is no longer required. Run-time licenses are no longer required for ACCIS. Connector ID now retains its most recent entry when Auto-Save and Auto-Increment options are turned OFF, (instead of reverting to Current as it did before). The warning message in response to lack of video input while ACCIS is running now only occurs once per ACCIS session. In addition, measurements or calibration functions that require grabbing video input are disabled if lack of video input is detected. Improved AutoAdjust function performance (for automatic adjustment of Frame Grabber brightness and contrast settings to give optimum fringes). Available in the TestProf dialog (select Action\Test Prof menu choice) when Debug mode is enabled. Incorporated menu of diagnostic tools available when in Debug mode. Debug mode is now automatically turned OFF upon exit from ACCIS (if previously ON). Changes for ACCISNT v5.20: Incorporated Auto-Leveling functionality. Incorporated further changes to provide wider printer support. Expanded types of National Instrument boards supported. Changes for ACCISNT v5.10: Fixed bug which causes No Video Input warning to appear while running Magnification AutoCAL, though there is no problem with Video. Made changes to allow unique set of Brightness/Contrast default values in each light mode (Red vs. White). Added key-combination (Ctrl-D) for toggling of Debug Mode from inside ACCIS. New setting is retained through ACCIS exit. NOTE: For Factory & Technical Support use only. Added automatic setting of new Default Brightness & Contrast for both Red & Wht and both Ceramic & Metal ferrule choice. This is activated by clicking the new AutoAdjust button inside the TestProf dialog. NOTE: For Factory & Technical Support use only.
Began requiring separate installation of MIL from a MIL CD (and an associated runtime license hardware dongle or software key). Changes for ACCISNT v5.05: Changed keyboard function key that activates the scan to <F4> from <F12>. This change facilitates more flexible use of a barcode scanner for ACCIS control on the production floor. Changed sequence of operations upon activation of a scan, so that entry of Connector ID (or acceptance of default) must occur before the scanning is allowed to commence. Then scanning is started when user clicks the Start Scan button (or presses the <ENTER> key). This change facilitates more flexible use of a barcode scanner for ACCIS control on the production floor. Fixed occasional bug of program hanging at completion of scan, before final data displayed. Changed ACCIS to support Meteor-II as frame grabber as well as Meteor/PPB. It checks for both at hardware initialization (at launch of ACCIS) and configures whichever is found. Fixed bug of crashing when attempt made to save scan as NLD format file with Data-Save prompting turned OFF. Modified section that sets default Brightness/Contrast key values in the Registry so that values depend on which Meteor board is installed. Fixed bug which causes an erroneous Enter angle from 0 to 360 message to repeatedly appear when trying to Load a saved configuration having a nonzero value for Mount Angle (and Connector Type set to APC). Changed ACCIS to allow selecting both NLD and XLS for AutoSave in Config/Option/General dialog. Changed from using a fixed Pass-Fail value for Fiber Height minimum to applying the Telcordia Curve which gives variable allowable Fiber Height minimum depending on Radius of Curvature (ROC) outcome. The Telcordia Curve is similar to the applied IEC Curve for minimum allowable Fiber Height, but extended for connectors with ROC below 10mm. Changes for ACCISNT v5.0: Modified Red Light surface mapping process to prevent getting into mode that could appear to be Program Hang (but was actually taking very long in one section of the process). Also improved method of exiting early from mapping process (making it a cleaner exit and clearer to user). Fixed memory allocation bug in routine used for writing to Excel spreadsheet. Expanded Mount Angle used in Setup menu to allow 2 decimal points accuracy. Changed Surface Fitting image to show difference between ferrule and fit-to-ferrule for points on ferrule, and difference between fiber and fit-to-fiber for points on fiber. Previously showed all points on surface with respect only to ferrule fit. Also renamed image to Surface Detail. Updated method of drawing bitmaps (such as the Surface Contour and Live Image graphics) to prevent problems arising from current printer drivers not supporting previous method of drawing bitmaps. Eliminated outputting (to display, printer, or Spreadsheet) of Offset information when Scan type set to CALIBRATION in Setup menu. This is to prevent the case of a user attempting to perform a Leveling process with Scan type mistakenly left in CALIBRATION mode. Prevented turning Pass/Fail checking On in Setup Menu when Scan type set to CALIBRATION. Incorporated support for mapping Cleaved Fiber as follows: a. Added FIBER choice to Scan Type in SETUP menu. b. Modified code as needed to process data for FIBER scan.
c. Added Cleave Angle & Rotational Offset data place in Spreadsheet output. d. Modified output display as needed when FIBER scan type chosen. e. Modified Online Manual to provide FIBER mode information. Provided user with ability to turn off prompt for Data Saving at completion of successful scan when AutoSave is set to ON. Changed to allow any comments entered in Comments field following completion of a scan to be immediately printable (without need to first save the scan, before printing). Changed in ACCISNT v4.11: Ability to install multiple versions of ACCIS into their own registry and directory space. Data now saved as Microsoft Excel files (as replacement for storing quantitative data into an ASCII text file). The Excel application can be invoked from within ACCIS with complete functionality for viewing, storing, and printing of data. (MS Excel must be installed on the computer.) Added Icon on toolbar for quick changing of the Active Data File name, and to activate the Auto Save to Excel spreadsheet option. Also used to switch the Active Data File back to an existing data file. Added Icon on toolbar for instant displaying of Active Data File in Excel. Eliminated Auto Extract option in Configuration/Option dialog. (obsolete with Excel) Menu in Options allows user selection of data columns to display in Excel spreadsheet. Administrator assigns security levels inside ACCIS program (replacing the previous external utility for configuring security). Improved, more robust Red light unwrapping process (leading to less errors in surface mapping for rougher surfaces or surfaces with defects such as scratches or pits). IEC protocol incorporated into Pass/Fail functionality (including applying the IEC curve for allowable fiber undercut as a function of Radius of Curvature). Added ability to choose a predefined Pass/Fail criteria (Bellcore and IEC) Added Averaging Diameter setting capability (which effects Fiber Height measurement). Improved method for calculation of Planar Fiber Height. Improvement of ACCIS software s automatic internal Piezo calibration for Red light operation. Improvement to repeatability of Fiber Offset measurement (by refining resolution of fiber center location). Added support for a Controller board from National Instruments (Model # PCI6024E) used in the system (which serves as an alternate to the AT-AO-6). All current and future systems use the PCI6024E board instead of the AT-AO-6. ACCISNT v4.11 still supports systems with the AT-AO-6 board, however. Removed Pass/Fail Min and Max Angular Offset fields from Setup menu. Offset of Polish Pass/Fail only relates now to Linear Offset. Changed in ACCISNT v4.10: Began using NIDAQ installation utility supplied by National Instruments for configuring the controller board in the system (instead of using ACCIS installation to configure NIDAQ as done in previous versions of ACCIS).
