1 How to use ispring Converter to produce a narrated PowerPoint presentation There are three components to producing online compatible narrated PowerPoint presentations: Step 1 Record narration and timings into your PowerPoint Step 2 Publish your presentation to a web page or LMS compatible format Step 3 Add your presentation to your Moodle online course page Step 1 Record narration directly into your PowerPoint presentation Note: before you begin recording you need to ensure that your microphone levels are set correctly and your microphone headset is plugged in and turned on. Usually microphone settings can be found within the control panel. We strongly advise against using inbuilt microphones. To record narration directly into PowerPoint 1. Open the PowerPoint presentation you want to record narration over. 2. Go to the Slide Show menu and choose Record Slide Show. 3. Choose Start Recording from Beginning. A Record Slide Show dialog appears. 4. Make sure both the animation and narration boxes are marked.

When you have finished recording, press the escape ESC button on your keyboard. 8. You will know that audio has been recorded as an audio icon will appear on each slide containing audio.

Record your narration ensuring you match the timings of transitions Tip: make sure you don t speak whilst transitioning between slides, in case you need to re-record for an individual slide. 7. Note: Although you can record the entire presentation at once, the narration for each slide will be saved as a separate audio file for each slide. Tip: making mistakes as you go If you make a mistake half-way through, you don t have to go right back to the beginning. You can clear the audio on a particular slide by selecting the audio icon and pressing Delete key, then start recording again from that slide on by choosing the Start recording from current slide option from the Record slide show drop-down list. Tip: importing pre-recorded audio You can import audio you have pre-recorded, for example during a live lecture presentation or in a studio. It is more difficult to get the timings right doing this, so direct narration is still preferred. If your audio is a single file of the entire presentation, you will need to break it into smaller slide-sized pieces using an audio editor such as Audacity. 1. In the Slide view in PowerPoint, go to the Insert toolbar, then click Audio, then choose Audio from File.

3 2. Browse to find the audio file and click Insert. To try and synch the audio with the PowerPoint timings, you can record the slide show, choosing only to record the slide and animation timings and then click the audio button for each slide to play audio while clicking through timings. Step 2 Publish your presentation to LMS (SCORM format more suitable for uploading to Moodle) Once you have recorded narration into your PowerPoint presentation you can quickly convert it to SCORM output using ispring Converter. While web output will work fine within Moodle, the SCORM output will give you some extra tracking functionality in Moodle and makes adding the content to Moodle slightly easier. 1. From the ispring toolbar, click Publish. 2. The Publish to HTML5 window appears, click the LMS tab.

In the Local folder, click the Browse button to select where you want the file saved to, usually in the same folder as your PowerPoint file. 5. Ensure the Zip output checkbox is marked. 6. You can select Enable sidebar to display a slide menu on the side of your presentation, to keep it simple ensure this checkbox is clear. 7. Click the Playback and Navigation tab. 8. In the Preset options, click Continuous slide show to have recorded narration and timings play automatically. This will mean that users won t have to keep clicking to move the presentation along, however they will still have the ability to pause etc. using the play bar. 9. Click on the Advanced tab and check the Extended Compatibility checkbox. 10. Click on the Learning Course tab. 11. Change the report successful completion status from Passed/Failed to Complete/Incomplete

5 12. Leave all other settings and click Publish. 13. The zip file containing the SCORM package is created and saved to the chosen location.

In your Moodle course page, ensure editing is turned on. 2. Click Add a Resource, and choose File. 3. In the Name field, enter a descriptive name for the presentation. 4. In the Content field, drag and drop or browse to find - the published zip file. The zip file will appear as a purple zip icon.

10 5. Click on this icon, then click Unzip on the dialog that appears. 6. The file is unzipped and multiple files appear in the Select file area. 7. You can now click the purple zip file and delete. 8. Click the main html file and choose Set main file in the dialog that appears.

11 9. Scroll down and choose Save and Return to Course. Note: Uploading to a web site. You can add the ispring Converter output to any web site. If you want to add this to the University s corporate web site, you should log a job with the service desk to have CeCC upload this for you.

You will then receive a licence number and registration key, just click Activate from the tool bar to enter these and unlock ispring Converter.

13 To add the created Flash file to Moodle 1. If you are using Firefox you can simply drag and drop the swf file onto your Moodle course to add it. Make sure you have editing turned on, then drag to the correct location. Moodle will create a link to the file, you may need to click the editing icon to go in and edit the title or settings once it has been uploaded.
