3 Starting up If XLF is installed correctly you will find a new button in your Excel toolbar: Excel 2003: Located in the top menu Excel 2007 / 2010 / 2013: Located under the Add-Ins tab If you open an existing workbook that already contains data added by XLF please note that you need to log in before values will be updated. 3

4 Logging in When you start XLF you will be prompted to enter a username and password. These are the same as you use to access Montel Online. If you do not have a valid username and password for Montel Online, please contact sales@montel.no Tip: You can choose to save your username and password for later use, by checking the Save username and password checkbox. Tip: Use the Auto log-in option to log in automatic with the same username and password next time you open an existing workbook. If this option is checked XLF will also automatically try to reconnect if you for some reason get disconnected. 4

5 After you have logged in you will be presented with this form. 5

6 If you have Montel PowerFeeder installed, you can choose whether to use it to push prices or not. You can do this under settings (in the toolbar) > preferences, by checking or un-checking the Use Montel PowerFeeder to push data checkbox, and pressing the save and close button. 6

7 General interface At the top of the XLF form are nine tabs: Power, Gas, Carbon, Coal, Oil, Spot, Financial, Funda and Bindings. The content of Power, Gas, Carbon, Coal, Oil and Financial are identical, and they share some basic usage features: First you need to select the price data type and desired market, and then the exchange/broker (price source). If you are subscribing to a delayed feed, it will be marked with (delayed) behind the exchange/broker name. When you select an exchange, it will load all the different contracts for that exchange, and display them in the list of contracts. 7

8 Price type Under the tabs Power, Gas, Carbon, Coal, Oil, Financial you will find a drop down menu listing available price types, including: Live prices, OHLC, and Intra trades. Live prices: provide continuos updates on the contracts you have chosen. You will always see Bid, Vol bid, Ask, Vol ask, Open, High, Low, Last, Change, Close, Vol last, Vol acc., Time. OHLC: (Open/High/Low/Close) makes it possible to download historical data and get daily automatic updates of OHLC fed staright into your workbook. Intra trades: Updates all trades done on the selected contract. You can also download historical data with all Intra-day trades. 8

9 Market, Exchange/broker, contracts Market lists all the available markets under the chosen commodity. Select a marked by clicking on the market name. Next a listing will appear in the next box showing all the available exchanges/brokers for the selected marked. After selecting an exchange/broker you will see all the available contracts in the contracts listing box. If the exchange/broker also has available front contracts these will be shown in the front contracts box. Select the specific contract you want to see (ex, year-12) or all the yearly contracts (Year) and press the add button. The figures will appear in the cell that is marked in the Excel sheet. 9

10 History If the price type is OHLC or Intra trades the history date picker will be enabled. Select the contract you want to see, and then the history time span and press add. In the Excel sheet you will now see the historical data (for the selected time span) on the selected contract. If you select data dating back to before available history, download will include data from the first day the contract was traded. 10

11 Data String / Expired contracts Another feature of XLF is that you can use it to download complete historical data for expired contracts. You will find a complete list of codes for this purpose under Expired contracts. When you have your code ready, just insert it in the data string textbox bellow history and settings and click the Add button. Remember that the price type needs to be OHLC/Intra trades and you need select the right market and exchange/broker before inserting the code. 11

12 Settings Under settings there are two check boxes, including headers and update continuously. Include header will be enable for every price type, but update continuously will be disabled under Live prices. The reason for this is that the live prices always will be updated automatically with the newest data. If you check the include header before pressing add, the data will be showed with headers. If you check the update continuously when you are under price type OHLC you will automatically get your sheet updated with the open, high, low, close figures when the exchange/broker are closing for the day. You will now always have the newest data in your sheet. For intra trades you will automatically get the newest trade in. See section Bindings regarding how to manage continuous updates. 12

13 Spot From this tab you can download historical spot data. Make a selection in the list of exchanges, and choose between price or volume, 24 or daily prices/volumes for the desired dates. You can also set XLF to automatically update your excel sheet with continuously fresh spot data, by checking the checkbox update continuously. See section Settings regarding how to manage continuous updates 13

14 Funda The fundamental tab will display a list of add-on services that you may subscribe to (contact: sales@montel.no). NordPool Market data Here you will find all the available fundamental data form NordPool. All data contains the last 8 days hourly figures for all areas (picture above). You can check for Update Continuously giving you 8 days hourly history from today or choose a given date and see hourly figures from chosen day and 8 days backwards. 14

15 Data Fabricator Power/gas If you subscribe to the fundamental data from Data Fabricator all data will be available when selecting Data Fabricator in the drop-down list Add-On services. It has the same functionality as the OHLC. To download data to excel you must first select a desired contract, and then an interval of dates. Click the Add button when ready. You can also set XLF to automatically update your excel sheet with continuously fresh data, by checking the checkbox update continuously. See section Settings regarding how to manage continuous updates. Headings are automatically included. 15

16 Energie Quader DFC Gas If you subscribe to Daily Forwards curves, you will be able to press the add button after selecting DFC gas in the dropdown list Add-On services. To download the data to Excel press Add Data. The data will automatically update. To stop the update, press Stop updating. 16

18 Bindings The large data grid below is for managing and observing of the contracts you have chosen to update continuously. They are sorted under OHLC, Intratrades,spot and Data Fabricator (if you subscribe to fundamental data), and Nordpool spot. The grid shows you which sheet; row and column the next update for the given contract will appear in. If you want the update to be shown in another row or column, you can change this by typing in a new value, then pressing enter. Typically, you will want do this if you have moved existing data for the same contract to a new location. To stop automatic updating for a product, select the according row(s) and press delete on your keyboard. For more information, please contact sales@montel.no,
