Getting Started To access the FireWeb External site for industry and contractors, click on the following URL and then Login to FireWeb : The client must apply for access and is provided a username and password, the form to apply is also available on the same site as the URL above. If this is your first time ever using FireWeb, you will have to register first. If in doubt, register anyway. After the initial access to the site, any future access should bring you to the Sign In page. January 15, 2019 Web Mapping User Guide Page 5 of 44

After you click register you will be redirected to the following page, if available, click on the Request Access button. If the FireWeb Internet Mapping Tool is showing in the Your Applications section then you are already registered, skip ahead to verify. After you Request Access click on the Submit Enrolment Request to complete the registration process. January 15, 2019 Web Mapping User Guide Page 6 of 44

Once you are fully registered the FireWeb Internet Mapping Tool will be showing in Your Applications section as shown below. To access the AEP Application Portal again click on the following URL: Now launch the FireWeb External site using the following URL: If you ever get the Terms Of Use screen again in the future after initially registering you can click on Continue, but you must always agree to the terms of use agreement. January 15, 2019 Web Mapping User Guide Page 7 of 44

Sign In Click on the appropriate selection to continue, then Sign in using your GoA assigned username and password. An external username is EXTERN\FirstName.LastName, when an external client logs in they do not include the EXTERN\ in the username, they log in only using the FirstName.LastName. Any future access should bring you directly to the Sign In page on the right. Note: Never click the Remember me? Your username will be remembered but so will your password and since your password changes this option is NOT Recommended. If you do choose to use it you should clear all browsing history and cache as soon as you change your password to prevent locking your account this will reset your browser and the next time you enter the site it will open on the Terms Of Use page as shown above enabling you to Sign In again. Trouble-Shooting Access Denied In most cases a client will get an Access Denied due to the fact that they did not fully Register when they initially launched the site. The downside to this is that the Terms Of Use page only pops up once in a browser and when the Terms Of Use is accepted by the client each consecutive use automatically takes the client to the Sign In page. There are two ways to fix this issue, the first is to simply use a different browser that was not used to initially open the FireWeb site. Go back to the Getting Started page and follow the instructions from there. Once the client has registered on any browser the client should be able to go back to the original browser to sign into the site with no Access Denied message. For instance, if the client used Chrome to open the site initially and did not click register and received the Access Denied message, try using Internet Explorer to open the site and therefore getting the Terms Of Use page again. The other option is to clear all browsing history and cache for the browser, and then open the site again. This should reset the browser and the Terms Of Use page should appear again. Go back to the Getting Started page and follow the instructions from there. If you have tried all of the above methods to access the site and are still getting an Access Denied message, please Contact Us. January 15, 2019 Web Mapping User Guide Page 8 of 44

2.7 - Select a basemap The Select a basemap tool is located in the lower left corner of the Map Frame and enables the user to quickly select a different basemap, or background. The tool consists of different Alberta masks, rasters, hillshades and imagery. Click on the tool and use the right and left arrows to scroll back and forth through the selection of basemaps and simply click on a basemap icon to switch to it. Please note: There may be several other options available in the Base Maps group in the Layer List Open and close coordinates widget The coordinates widget is located in the lower left corner of the Map Frame and provides the user with the current coordinates of the cursor. Click the widget to open and close the tool. The user moves the cursor around the map and the tool will display the coordinates in Latitude and Longitude, or the user may select another coordinate system using the drop down tool. WKID meaning: The spatial reference of a map, layer, or inputs to and outputs from a task. Each projected and geographic coordinate system is defined by either a well-known ID (WKID) or a definition string (WKT). 1 1 The WKID meaning was taken from the ArcGIS for Developers site: January 15, 2019 Web Mapping User Guide Page 16 of 44

2.9 - Open and close scale input box The scale input box is located in the lower left corner of the Map Frame and provides the user with the current scale of the map and also allows the user to select a scale to zoom in or out to. The tool is open by default but the user can close and open the tool by clicking on the tool, shown in red. Depending on the size of your window and screen the maps initial scale should be 1:18,489,298. By clicking on the drop down tool the user can select any scale in the list shown below and the map will zoom to that selected scale automatically. The user can also click inside the box and type a desired scale and then click [Enter] or click [Go] and the map will zoom to the closest available scale from the list. Please note: The scales are predesignated and cannot be changed. These are the same scales that other online maps use, like Google maps, Bing maps and Apple maps, to name a few Scale bar The Scale bar is located in the lower left corner of the Map Frame and provides a visual indication of the size of features, and distance between features, on the map. This scale bar is a bar divided into parts and labeled with its ground length in multiples of map units, such as tens of kilometers. The scale bar is associated with a Map Frame and maintains a connection to the map inside the frame. Even if the map scale changes, the scale bar remains correct Open and Close the overview map The Open and Close the overview map button, which is the little diagonal arrow located at lower right corner of the Map Frame, will open and close the overview map. The Overview Map is a small view of the full map showing the current view as a blue square or rectangle. Seeing the current view in relation to the whole map helps you orient yourself on the overall map. 2 The Scale bar meaning was taken from the ArcGIS pro site: January 15, 2019 Web Mapping User Guide Page 17 of 44

Right-Click on the Map There are additional tools that the user can perform on a location by Right-Clicking on the map in the Map Frame. For that location that is clicked, a green tag appears and a menu opens with the coordinates of the location, in Decimal Degrees, and a variety of functions you can perform. January 15, 2019 Web Mapping User Guide Page 18 of 44

3 - Data Frame The Data Frame is a panel located to the left of the Map Frame in the Web Mapping Site, the user can open the Data Frame using the Expand/Collapse the data frame button. The Data Frame defaults to the Layer List upon opening for the first time. The Data Frame changes depending on the display or tool that is being used. 3.1 Drag to resize the panel 3.2 Layer List 3.3 Panel Actions Menu 3.4 Legend 3.5 Folders and Layers in the Layer List 3.6 Layer Actions Menu 3.7 Data Frame Tabs January 15, 2019 Web Mapping User Guide Page 19 of 44

3.1 - Drag to resize the panel The Data Frame can be adjusted in size using the small grey tab half way down the panel on the right side. Click and drag to the right to make the panel wider or click and drag to the left to make the panel smaller Layer List The Layer List is the default tool available upon opening the Data Frame on the left side of the Map Frame. The Layer List is also available by clicking on the Open the Layer List from the I want to menu or opening the Toolbar, clicking on the Layers tool tab and choosing the Layer List tool. The Layer List is divided into three groups and the World Topo Map: Operational Layers containing all fire related data Base Feature Layers containing the base data, i.e. roads and hydro Base Maps containing provincial masks, imagery and rasters World Topo Map This is the background map of the world January 15, 2019 Web Mapping User Guide Page 20 of 44

3.3 - Panel Actions Menu The Panel Actions Menu is accessed by Clicking on the four lines to the right of the title in the Data Frame. Opening the Panel Actions Menu will provide more options. For example; when the Layer List is open, clicking the Panel Actions Menu will open a menu that provides the option to toggle to the Legend. From the Legend you can click on the Panel Actions Menu to toggle back to the Layer List. See image below. Depending on what is open in the Data Frame will determine what options will be available from the Panel Actions Menu Legend The Legend opens in the Data Frame and shows the symbology of the different layers in a list form. The Legend is available by clicking on the Show the legend from the I want to menu or opening the Toolbar, clicking on the Layers tool tab and choosing the Legend tool. The Legend can also be toggled by using the Panel Actions Menu from the Layer List. January 15, 2019 Web Mapping User Guide Page 21 of 44

3.5 - Folders and Layers in the Layer List To open a folder in the Data Frame click on the, to close a folder click on the. Clicking on the box to the left of a folder or layer will turn it on or off. A checked box is turned on and an empty box indicates that the folder or layer is turned off. indicates that the folder or layer In the image to the right: The folder Operational Layers is open and it is turned on. The folder Fire Advisory / Restriction / Ban / OHV/ Area Closure is closed and it is turned off. The layer NOTAM - Notice to Airmen is off. The folder Fire Data - Current / Prescribed / Historical is closed and it is turned on. Most folders are distinguishable by the / signs to the left of the folder name, except when several layers are hidden under a folder this enables the folder to act as a single layer. An example of this is the Contours folder, the layers under the folder have different datasets displaying data at different scales, less detail at a smaller scale and more detail as the user zooms in. Layers have a Legend Swatch and they have the right arrow / signs which folders use to open and close. that opens the Layer Actions Menu. They do not have the The images below show the difference between a folder that is acting as a single layer, on the left, and an actual layer, on the right. The folder does not have the / signs, there is no right arrow and there is no legend swatch. Certain layers have scale thresholds set on them as drawing these layers at a small scale would be illegible. When the text of the layers are in a lighter grey and the parent folder is turned on, this means that the data will not draw at the current scale. The user can slowly zoom in using the Zoom in a step button until the layer text changes to black. Alternatively, the user can use the mouse wheel to zoom in or out. Please note that even though the map is at the drawing scale of the layer this does not mean that there is data in the area that is showing in the Map Frame. Another method for a user to quickly zoom to the layers visible scale is to use the Layer Actions Menu, and Click on the Zoom to visible scale which is explained in more detail below. January 15, 2019 Web Mapping User Guide Page 22 of 44

As noted above, some folders have several layers hidden under the folder to enable the folder to act as a single layer. Folders do not grey out when they are outside their scale threshold. In these instances where a threshold is set and the layers do not draw at the full extent the name of the folder will contain the visible extent details so that the user will know which scale the layers under the folder will start to draw, ie. Contours (Visible at 1:288,895). In order to manipulate (turn on/off, open/close) layers or folders that are contained within a folder, the parent folder must be turned on. The text of the layers and/or folders under the parent folder will be lighter and have a light grey shading showing that they are not available until the parent folder is turned on. Note in the image below, the folder, circled in red, is off and the layers under the folder, in the red square, are shaded. When the parent folder is turned on the text for the layers and folders will darken and the light grey shading disappears and the layers and/or folders under the parent folder will be available. January 15, 2019 Web Mapping User Guide Page 23 of 44

There are some folders and layers that use radio buttons where only one layer can draw at a time. A radio button is distinguishable from regular buttons as they are circles rather than square boxes. A circle with a dot indicates that the folder or layer is turned on and an empty circle indicates that the folder or layer is turned off. Radio buttons are used primarily for base maps or raster data where you don t want data to overlap or where the data could be misinterpreted by having two raster datasets on at the same time and not realizing it. By default, some folders that use the radio buttons will not have any layer turned on, once a layer is turned on you cannot turn it off. You could choose another layer to turn on or you can turn off the folder to turn the data off. Legend Swatches are available on layers only and show the symbology for the layer when the layer is turned on and the map is at a scale that the data can draw. In the images to the right: The layer is turned off so the legend swatch is not available. The layer is turned on and the legend swatch is available circled in red. The layer is turned on but the layer doesn t draw at the current scale of the map so the legend swatch is not available. The layer is turned on and the map is now at a scale that the layer can draw so the legend swatch is available circled in red. In this case the legend swatch is for symbolization that is categorized. Click on the legend swatch to open the legend to show the entire symbology categorization. January 15, 2019 Web Mapping User Guide Page 24 of 44

3.6 - Layer Actions Menu The Layer Actions Menu is accessed by Clicking on the arrow to the right of the layers name in the Layer List. The layer does not have to be turned on to access this menu, be aware of this when zooming in or toggling the labels. A list of options will open in the Data Frame. Click on the [x] to close the Layer Actions Menu. Zoom to full extent From the Layer Actions Menu, Click on the Zoom to full extent and the map will automatically zoom to the full extent of the layer, for most layers this will be the full province of Alberta. Please note that this does not mean that the layer will draw at this scale. Zoom to visible scale From the Layer Actions Menu, Click on the Zoom to visible scale and the map will automatically zoom to the correct scale for the layer to draw. Please note that the tool zooms directly to the drawing scale of the layer, but this does not mean that the area in the Map Frame will have any data from the layer that is being zoomed to. Turn on/off layer visualizations From the Layer Actions Menu, Click on the Turn on/off layer visualizations and the Visualizations Options tool will allow the user to customize how the layer will draw in the Map Frame. Toggle labels Turn the layer s labels on or off From the Layer Actions Menu, Click on the Toggle labels and the layers labels will turn on or off. Many of the layers have the labels available by toggling the label on or off instead of having a separate label layer. Please refer to the FireWeb Label Cheat Sheet to determine if a layer s label is on or off by default and what the scale of the label is. This should help with the frustration of toggling a label and not knowing if it should be drawing and at which scale. Customize labels From the Layer Actions Menu, Click on the Customize labels and the user will have the option to change the field that is being used for the label or change how the label is drawing. The user can also reset the label back to default. January 15, 2019 Web Mapping User Guide Page 25 of 44

3.7 - Data Frame Tabs As the user opens different tools and get results from the tools, the tools and results will remain open as tabs at the bottom of the Data Frame in the Web Mapping Site so the user can return back to them later. Click on the tab of the tool or result to use the tool or see the result. The square boxes in red below show different tools that have been activated and are collecting on the bottom of the Data Frame as tabs. To remove the tool or result, click on the tab associated with the tool or result, then click on the [x] on the right of the title in the Data Frame and the tool or result and associated tab will disappear. January 15, 2019 Web Mapping User Guide Page 26 of 44

The Full Extent is a button, when you click on the button the map reacts immediately by zooming in or out to the full extent and requires nothing more from the user. Some buttons open tools, like Go to Address. A tool requires a users input through an action, like clicking on the map. The Pan is a tool and requires the user to click and hold the cursor on the map and drag the cursor to another location so that the map moves in the direction of the cursor. The Pan tool is special because it is also the default tool and will remain active until another tool is activated. Some tools are used once and then deactivates, like the Zoom In tool, once used the Pan tool is reactivated. Other tools remain activated until you click on it again to deactivate it or click on another button or tool. January 15, 2019 Web Mapping User Guide Page 27 of 44

When a tool is activated the icon in the toolbar will highlight with a blue filled square. With more complex tools, like the Identify tool, the icon will highlight and more tool options will become available. At the bottom of the Map Frame an instruction box will appear to offer help with the tool. The user can remove the instruction box at any time by clicking on the. Once the tool is no longer active the icon will return to white and the instruction box will disappear. January 15, 2019 Web Mapping User Guide Page 28 of 44
