1 Web Authoring with WebDAV (IIS 6.0) FOR NETWORK ADMINISTRATORS Purpose This document is being written so that Network Administrators can create a virtual directory on a web server that will point to a network folder. Introduction Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning (WebDAV) extends the HTTP/1.1 protocol to allow clients to publish, lock, and manage resources on the Web. This section describes how to set up a WebDAV publishing directory on an IIS server, and how clients can connect to the server to edit and manipulate files. Note: WebDAV is an optional component of IIS 6.0 and is not installed by default. See Installing IIS for information on installing WebDAV. After WebDAV is installed, it can be enabled through the Web Services Extensions node in IIS Manager. (See Enabling and Disabling Dynamic Content in IIS 6.0) Setting up an FLMD user The following steps are for Windows 2003 Server, with IIS 6.0 installed. 2 Step 2 Under the Web Sites folder, right-click on Default Web Site, and select New, Virtual Directory. 3 Type the alias for the virtual directory in the Alias field, and click Next. 4 Type the complete network path to the virtual directory. You can use Windows Explorer find the correct path to the directory. (Example: \\server\share) Click Next. 4 Step 7 To setup rights to access the folder, right-click on the virtual directory you previously created and select Properties from the menu. 8 Click on the Directory Security tab. 9 Under Authentication and Access Control, click Edit. 5 Step 10 Select the checkbox for Digest Authentication for Windows Domain Servers, then click Yes. 11 Type in the Realm (Domain Name) FLMD.CIRC11.DCN and click OK. 12 Click OK again to exit the dialog boxes. 6 WebDAV Web Shares Background WebDAV is our answer to Dropbox. WebDAV web share locations are created on our web server within the DCN. Users are authenticated using their Active Directory username and password. WebDAV is more secure than FTP and has more functionality. Files can be saved and stored and do not need to be uploaded and downloaded like with FTP. Like Dropbox, the files may be accessed from multiple locations and will automatically be synced. If a file is being edited and another user with access tries to open it, they will be prompted to open the file in read-only format. WebDAV locations can be accessed from any device with VPN access. Your Directory The following location has been created for you. Web Server Path Web Server URL Network Directory Provided by Systems Provided by Systems Provided by Systems Connect to Server from MacBook The WebDAV server may be accessed from the MacBook. Step 1 Log into the VPN. 2 Right-click on Finder and select Connect to Server 3 Type the Web Server URL for the server as shown below. 4 Click the plus (+) sign to add it to the Favorite Servers list. 5 Click Connect. 7 Step 6 The contents of the WebDAV web share is displayed in the finder, and the shared location is displayed. 7 Files may now be accessed and will be automatically synced. Connect to Server from ipad In order to connect to the server from the ipad, you first need to decide which App(s) you want to use to connect. 8 Connect with GoodReader To connect to the server using GoodReader, you first need to create the connection. Once that is done, as long as you are connected to the VPN, you can access the web share at any time. To add the connection to the server: Step 1 Connect the ipad to WiFi and log into VPN (Junos Pulse). 2 Open GoodReader, tap Connect to Servers, then tap Add. 3 Tap WebDAV Server from the list. 4 Type Web Server URL in the URL-address field (required). You can also type a Readable Title, your Active Directory User name, Password, and Domain. 5 Tap Save when finished. FLMD - USDC WebDAV Web Shares Revised on April 14, 2014 Page 3

9 Step 6 Now, as long as you are connected to the VPN, you can access the web share by tapping on it under Connect to Servers. 7 Items in GoodReader can be uploaded to the web share and items in the web share can be viewed in GoodReader. Connect with PDF Expert As with GoodReader and the MacBook, once you create the connection it is saved and can be accessed as long as you are first logged into the VPN. To add the connection to the server: Step 1 Connect the ipad to WiFi and log into VPN (Junos Pulse). 2 Open PDF Expert and tap Network. 3 Tap Add, and then tap Other WebDAV Server. 10 Step 4 Type the Title, URL, Login, Password, and Domain for the server, and then tap Save. 5 The web share will appear under Favorite Servers. To log in, tap it. 6 You will see all of the files and folders stored on the web share. FLMD - USDC WebDAV Web Shares Revised on April 14, 2014 Page 5

11 Sync Folders in PDF Expert Documents stored in your WebDAV folder can be downloaded to your ipad and synced. Files copied from your WebDAV folder are copied to a folder with the same name in PDF Expert. Once a connection is established you can set up a 2-way synchronization with one of the folders on the server. To enable 2-way sync: Step 1 Go to the Network tab in PDF Expert and navigate to the folder in your WebDAV directory that you want to sync. 2 Tap the Sync button on the navigation bar. 3 Tap Sync This Folder to add the folder to the syncing queue. 4 A new Sync button will be added at the left bottom corner of the screen. Pressing this button will start the synchronization process for all folders. NOTE: Once you tap Sync at the bottom of the screen, you can choose to sync the folder or folders entirely selecting Full Sync or Push Changes to sync only modified files in the sync-folder. 12 Saving and Storing Files Using Lotus Connections Lotus Notes Connections the Judiciary s secure file transfer site can be used to save files for later access from multiple devices. Files can be sorted into folders, and may be read by any individual to whom you grant file access or stored for private access only. This document will discuss how to save a file using the mobile version of Lotus Connections, and how to use the folders feature to easily locate a file at a later time. Scenario: While surfing FJC Online from your ipad you happened upon Ronald J. Hedges International Extradition: A Guide for Judges recently published by the Federal Judicial Center. You ve quickly skimmed this resource, but want to be able to access it later, possibly from multiple devices your work desktop, your laptop, your ipad then give it a closer read, and store it in a location where you can easily find it when you handle your next extradition. 13 Hover over right upper corner of the document. Select open in Connections. Connections opens. Tap the Upload button. The file uploads into Connections (you can rename file if helpful). Judge-to-Judge: Saving and Storing Files Using Notes Connections 2

14 The document will appear in the Files section. To place the file into a folder that s helpful for later access, tap on the shown at the far right of the file listing. Select the i icon which is the first option on the left. Judge-to-Judge: Saving and Storing Files Using Notes Connections 3

16 In the search field, type the first few letters of the folder into which you want to place this file. In this example, the file will go into a previously created folder titled Extradition, so you would type ext. Select the Extradition folder and tap Add. 19 To create a Folder into which files can be stored select Folders from bottom of pane, then plus sign at top right of screen and Judge-to-Judge: Saving and Storing Files Using Notes Connections 8

20 name the folder as desired. Note that Folders can be made Private or Public. To configure the app, enable VPN on your mobile device, tap the Connections app icon, and then log on by doing the following: 1. In the Server dialog box, type the following URL: 2. Tap Connect. 3.
