1 The purpose of this tutorial is to allow you to run Studio Designer Edition on both v (and future updates) and on Legacy v I originally did this so I could keep my perfect print and cuts in v2.7.4, but most users like it for the ability to run a non-glitchy v2 Studio session if v3 gives them trouble. Most of the time I am using Studio v3. Warnings and Disclaimers: -These instructions are written under the assumption that you are currently running a version of Studio 3 with the Designer Edition. If you are running v2 DE and not v3, you can start at Step 6 (after following the instructions with the first image for viewing hidden folders and showing extensions). -These instructions are for Windows 7 users. Other PC operating systems should be similar, but not exactly the same. (I have yet to confirm success with this process for Vista users.) -These instructions require you to use Legacy, not any previous version 2, because you need the secure version that allows de-activation and re-installation of Designer Edition. -Although I personally have had no trouble with my computer in running multiple versions of Studio at the same time in Windows 7, others have. Follow the tutorial and change files like these at your own risk. Not all computers are created equal. - You might not be able to uninstall a renamed Studio program through the Add/Remove Programs function. -This should not affect your existing Library. Upon successful installation of both v2 and v3, any designs you add through the Silhouette design store for your Library should show up in all versions of Studio on your computer. However, some files imported to or saved to your Library while in v3 will not open in v2. -Keep in mind that files saved in v3 with the.studio3 extension will not open in v2 so plan ahead if you start in v3 and want to use the same file in v2. (You will need to save the file as a Legacy.Studio file and risk losing some advanced features.) -You will need to enable viewing of hidden folders and enable viewing of file extensions for these instructions to work. Here is how: Go into your Control Panel, choose Appearance and Personalization, click on "Show hidden files and folders" in Folder Options. In the View Tab, choose Show hidden files, folders, and drives (I select this temporarily while I'm going through these steps and go back to Don't show hidden files when I'm done-- they are hidden for a reason!)

2 Also uncheck the box for Hide extensions for known file types. See the image below. If you still wish to proceed, here are the instructions: 1- Open Silhouette Studio version 3. De-activate the license key in v3. Help>De-activate License Key. See the image below. 2- Uninstall v3 through Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel.

3 3- Restart your computer. 4- Install Studio v (secure Legacy version). 5- Run Studio and activate the DE license (you can find a copy of your license in the My Account section of the online store). Help>Upgrade to Silhouette Studio Designer Edition. - Set your Preferences to never check for updates so you don't accidentally save over this Legacy version. File>Preferences>General>Check for Updates: Never - Verify the Designer Edition is working (you will see rhinestone and sketch options). - Close Studio v2. 6- Go to your C drive on your computer and type in C:\ProgramData. Find the folder called com.aspexsoftware.silhouette_studio.license. Change the properties of the license folder to "read only" so version 3's license agreement can't overwrite it. This is what will allow you to keep version 2's DE license active even after running and closing v3. Here's how: - Right click on the com.aspexsoftware.silhouette_studio.license folder, choose Properties, and select Read only for Attributes in the General tab. Click OK. - Be sure to toggle through the Read Only checkbox so an actual checkmark appears, not just a blue colored box.

4 7- MAKE A COPY of the com.aspexsoftware.silhouette_studio.license folder in the ProgramData folder.

5 - SAVE a copy of this license folder somewhere it's easy to find, just in case you ever need it. (This v2 DE license folder can be used instead of contacting Silhouette Support for DE resets.) I keep a copy on my desktop and another copy on a thumb drive. 8- Now go to C:\Program Files (x86). Find the folder (do not open it) for the Silhouette Studio you have installed (it will just be called Silhouette Studio) and RENAME the folder Silhouette Studio v2967. Do not insert any decimals in the name. See image below. 9- Now open that folder you've just renamed, and find the Silhouette Studio.exe file. RENAME that file Silhouette Studio v2967.exe (keep the same name as in step 8, just include the.exe extension).

6 10- Go to the Silhouette Studio icon on your Desktop and RENAME it with the same Silhouette Studio v2967 title. 11- Right click on this Desktop icon and go to Properties. In the Shortcut Tab, change the path names as follows: TARGET: "C:\Program Files (x86)\silhouette Studio v2967\silhouette Studio v2967.exe" START IN: "C:\Program Files (x86)\silhouette Studio v2967\" Click Apply or OK (this is where you'll find out if you have any spacing or decimals or extensions typed incorrectly in any of the steps above).

7 12- Now you can install Studio (or the current version). 13- Run Studio v3 and accept the license agreement (if asked). Because you activated DE in step 5, version 3 should be running with the Designer Edition. Version 2 should also run with the Designer Edition.
